When you think about it, making Timon and Pumbaa incompetent with watching Kiara is a large plot hole. The duo helped raise Simba, so they should have experience with watching a lion cub.
Idk, they raised Simba in a tropical paradise with all the grubs they could eat. Given their personalities, they probably had a very lackadaisical approach to raising Simba. The expectations put on Kiara and them were much tighter
I love this movie, I remember getting it on vhs day one when it came out. I adore Kiara as a character as well, she's just adorable as a cub,and very wise for her age as an adult lion. Her and Kovu are just adorable together too, even as kids it was kind of love at first sight. It sucks that lion gaurd pretty much trashed Kiara's character and made her the sterotypical big sister annoyed by her little brother and get this they made it to where she wants to be queen!
4:22 Well, in a deleted scene where Scar hits on Nala it is stated clearly Scar wanted cubs, with her. Sure it's not canon, since it's deleted but I still think that wanting an heir fits Scar's narcistic personality. You know, carry on the genes. What dóesn't make sense is that he would pick a random cub, that ISN'T HIS, for the job. I guess Nuka and Vitani are his cubs, so why didn't he pick one of them? There are so many questions here and the movie doesn't bother to answer one of them, unfortunately.
I agree with most of your points and still love the movie. However, I had a very different interpretation of the movie's meaning beyond the Romeo and Juliet plot. I understood the fight between prides to symbolize racial conflict (partly because the outsiders are darker in their colours than the golden-y Pridelanders). So, when Kiara says, "Us. Them. Look at them: they are us", she's not pointing out the details of their physical appearances being different, but instead is bringing attention to what they have in common: the fact that they are all people(lions whiskers, paws, tails and all) who deserve a minimum standard of fair treatment. Also, I saw Nuka as more of a school bully character. He has troubles at home, not getting the attention and affection he desires from his mother. So, he frequently acts out in numerous ways to get attention. All of his actions seem to be attention-seeking and driven by his desire for his mother's approval, IMO.
sbsp13668 I totally get what the film is going for regarding your points , but it fails at both intentions in my eyes. From making Kiara's point unintentionally funny, to trying to make Nuka TOO desperate - to the point where he becomes annoying to the audience. Sometimes creative decisions can backfire, no matter how well meaning they are.
@ Again, you're mainly using theories (notice how you say maybe or probably a lot), many of these things you point out aren't fully clarified by the film. Not to mention, using evidence from Lion Guard isn't something you can fairly credit this film for confirming, as Lion Guard was released many years later.
I personally consider this to be the best Disney sequel. It's certainly not perfect, but I always enjoy watching it. I do see where you're coming from when it comes to the movie's flaws, even though some things I see as flaws may differ from what you saw. For example, you said Timon and Pumbaa are hilarious in this movie, but honestly, I found them to be a bit annoying. Especially since they were pretty useless. I still love them, but they didn't contribute much. I didn't think Nuka was too annoying of a character, but I saw where you coming from with him. Most of his character was just him complaining about Kovu. I love all the songs in the movie, except Upendi. I agree that it's very out of place, and just spells out something we already knew was going on. I agree with Kiara's speech, and how awkward it is when she brings up how all the lions are the same. I wish Vitani would've been used more too, because she's an interesting character. What I really like is when Vitani joins Kiara's side, she sounds so exhausted when telling Zira enough was enough. I think she could tell how all this business with Scar was messing with Zira, and it pained her to see her mother spiral out of control. Perhaps she was hoping for a new start, and for her mother to rest and move on. Sad to see that she lost both her brother and mother. At least she still has Kovu, though. I'm not sure if you're aware, but there are a few deleted scenes from the movie that I think you should check out. One extends the scene of Kiara attempting to save Zira, and it's pretty damn dark. They also extend the Nuka death scene, and I actually felt more sympathy for him when watching that scene.
That's a cool idea! I've seen quite a few interesting deleted scenes, like when Scar hits on Nala in The Lion King. Funny enough, they decided to put that into the broadway show. But it would be cool to see a series talking about deleted stuff. I saw your Facebook post, though, and you should rest for a while first before doing more series or reviews. Enjoy your Valentine's Day. :)
Honestly, my favourite aspect of this sequel is Simba's character arc. He's insanely protective over Kiara, which makes sense, given how his younger self got into trouble, and how it led to him "killing" his dad. No, I don't think Simba feels his daughter will get him killed; he's fully aware he didn't kill Mufasa. However, he did believe he was at fault, albeit unintentionally, until he was a young adult. He doesn't want Kiara to be traumatised in any shape or form. His paranoia from his childhood is leaking into his parenting. He also still feels some responsibility for Mufasa's death, so he doesn't want Kiara to die. It'd break him completely. ("Kiara, are you listening? Accidents can happen.") Simba's lack of trust in Kovu makes perfect sense. He was lied to and manipulated by his relative, in the most heinous way possible. I'd be pretty messed up over that, and him having zero trust in the Outsiders shows how much Scar messed up his psyche. Simba has PSTD, yo. Just look at that nightmare scene; there are tears in his eyes. His PTSD is also shown in TLK 3, where he tells Timon that he had a bad dream. I'd even argue that he only wakes Timon up to have him there for comfort, and he even sleeps with Timon and Pumbaa well into adulthood. Simba puts so much blind trust in them, because they raised him when he felt nobody else would. It was when they accepted him as king, the friendship was made even more concrete. They're the dads that filled in right after Mufasa died. He's latched onto them, and trust them. It's fair enough, as they're good guys who mean well, but their stoner mentality has zero affect on Kiara; she's well adjusted. Simba is not. Simba accepting Kovu is the perfect circle in his character arc; it reinforces the message his father taught him about everyone being connected. The only unrealistic thing about his character arc is that the accepting of the whole pride seems... stupid. He'd already shown signs of accepting Kovu, so full acceptance is warranted in re simple story completion. The whole pride, however? Lol, no. I agree with everything else you've said, bar Nuka. I've always loved Nuka. He actually killed himself originally, but they deleted it for obvious reasons. He says, "well, I finally got your attention, didn't I? Didn't I?" Zira kills herself, too, but the edit in the film makes it less shocking... it kinda fits too well. Also, "We Are One" is a bop. 6/10 film. It's fine, but I don't understand the rampant love. TLK 1 is my favourite film.
Your description put everything I've thought of Simba into words beautiful. Honestly it makes me realize why I identified with this film so much. Simba and Kiara's relationship is very similar to me and my dad as well.
Nice video! I loved this movie as a kid and never noticed the animation inconsistencies or plot holes back then. It was frequently on one of the Disney channels and I also had a VHS of it, so I watched it a lot. I didn’t even know that it was direct to video at first and I remember asking my mom when it would be in theaters “again”. I know a lot of people had a crush on Kovu as kids, and let’s just say that I can’t blame them. I’ve always thought he looked cool. That being said, it’s actually been 6 years since I last saw the movie and I have the sinking suspicion that it won’t quite hold up to my nostalgic memories of it. Still, I agree with what you said near the end. There was some great potential and I would love to see what a theatrical version of it would’ve looked like.
I don't remember where I heard this from I think there's a fan theory that Nuka was actually Scar's biological son but being disappointed in how he turned out Scar adopted Kovu as his heir instead. Personally I think that could have been a good subplot if Nuka was used more seriously.
4:10 actually, it's not a big a change as it might seem. Scar tried to make Nala marry him and have cubs in a deleted scene, so him founding his own dynasty isn't too OOC.
19:16 Kiara’s speech isn’t supposed to mean that they all “look” the same. In my opinion, she’s trying to say that they as lions(or as people) are one, meaning that despite their differences in terms of appearance, they are the same. If you took it in the human way, you could have people like Europeans and Africans, while listening to the same speech. The color of our skin doesn’t matter, it’s the fact that we’re all human that makes us one. I hope you get what I mean by that.
The nostalgia is definitely there when I watch this movie but my "love" for it has slowly slipped away. You're right though, it is one of the more watchable Disney sequels but still I don't really pay attention to it nowadays as much as I did when I was younger. I used to play this again and again but it's very rare now when I watch most of Disney's sequels. I have to be in just that right mood to actually want to sit through some of these
The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride might be as good as the original but it's a decent sequel the good things about this movie the animation is nice and the songs are underrated.
I recall really enjoying this film when I was a kid, too, but I have come to realize it does not hold up as strong as it could have, and I agree with most of the points you mentioned. I have also considered an alternate way to write Zira's pride into the story. Zara is the leader of a crazy religious cult that had worshipped Scar like a god, but never knew him. They all live in a barren wasteland, pilgrims traveling the Savannah and spreading the Creed of Scar. Zira is delusional and thinks Scar's spirit has spoken to her many times of avenging him and taking back Pride Rock. She also finds a young orphaned cub named Kovu, and her frenzied mind believes he is a spiritual messenger or something sent by Scar, and she looks to manipulate him into a murderous killer. Ehhh...it isn't very strong, but it sounds somewhat better than what we got, I guess.
I used to really enjoy this sequel when I was a kid and I was surprised by how well it held up after all these years. It definitely draws inspiration from the original to the point of rehashing it at times, but I think the story and central themes were still pretty strong. Simba and Kovu both get character arcs here which was a nice continuation and expansion from the first film.
I love this movie almost as much as the first. Tbh besides "Circle of Life" I liked the soundtrack for the sequel more growing up. "He Lives in You" and "Not One of Us" are my favorites. I also appreciate the Shakespearean influence for both films, so I can forgive any shortcomings in the storylines.
Regarding your point about Scar and Kovu... Scar was specifically obsessed with glory and respect. It stands to reason that any ruler wants a respectable heir to carry own their legacy. In fact, the originally intended context behind Be Prepared as shown in a released animatic was that Scar wanted to have a cub with Nala to continue his lineage. It's sensible that they cut that out, but I don't think it's bizarre that he would be interested in raising an heir.
Great review and I like your different version of setting, albeit I had an alternative idea for origin of Outsiders.... I agree that existence of Outsiders makes no sense in this continuity, because: a) Clearly, majority of lionesses did not support Scar, so Scar had to form this pride outside of Pride Lands b) The idea that Scar was able to form an entire lion pride outside of Pride Lands is preposterous. b) The idea that such a huge number of lions would join Scar, who is an objectively bad leader, is just as equally preposteours. However, I do like an idea that this pride is directly connected to Scar. It gives actions of the previous film much bigger consequences and show how legacy of one person can affect the future in grand way. Which is why in my version, setting of Lion King 2 happens not centuries before events of Lion King, but centuries after Lion King. In this version, Outsiders are not just followers of Scar, but his direct descendants (hence the dark complexion and physical similarities to Scar), after few lionesses fell in love with Scar during his rule. Those lionesses were later banished by Simba, because they refused to follow him and since they were carrying Scar's progeny, they gave birth and started their own pride. In time, Outsiders grow in numbers and both Simba and Scar became sort of legendary figures of history and myth, both among Pride Lands (where Simba is hailed a hero and Scar as a villain) and Outsiders ( the vice versa). And because, similar to our historical figures, as time passes, the image of these two gets distorted and Scar's terrible leadership was forgotten by Outsiders, who only knew him as a figure of tales from his gran-grand-grandmothers, and instead of a sniveling two-faced coward and a manchild, he became a strong and intelligent leader in their minds. Which is why he has such a large following, outside of Pride Lands. The rest follows as the film...
Heres my alternate idea for the outsiders: Mufasa banished them for trying to kill him and rule his kingdom they where planning revenge on him ever since but when Scar kills Mufasa they decide not to challenge him because he had thousands of Hyenas so when Scar is defeated by Simba they decide thats when there plan to rule Pride Rock should begin
If you look at deleted scenes from the lion king, Scar was going to make Nala his bride and there he was talking about his descendants. How he was going to live forever and be immortal through his children.
I'm in that same minority. Lion King 3 has it's problems (The cinema scene interruptions and cutting out important scenes), but I admire it for trying something different from other Disney STV sequels, and respect it for having the confidence to go full steam ahead with it's silly concept. It may be literally farting on the original, but I can tell it's paid loving attention towards the scenes it's parodying (which makes gags work), and it does have some surprisingly endearing moments.
Actually man there is a deleted scene in the original Lion king movie where Scar decides to produce a new bloodline even choosing Nala as his queen. So if you take that into consideration it does make sense.
20:14 But it could have been far worse than that nightmare Mulan 2. Hell I even dreamed a few days ago that I was re-watching it with some extra scenes!
Honestly I think the film is a good standalone movie, but as a sequel to Lion King, it falls flat. It’s kind of needlessly and goes with some of that same princess vibe we always get from Disney. I’m on saying the movie is bad, but I won’t say it’s as good as what people have been saying about it
Speaking with the Lion King being my favorite Disney movie, I don't think this movie's great, but I think it's fine. I can't expect it to fill the shoes of the original, but I don't feel hurt or embarrassed watching it (the only parts I'm not really fond of are when Simba comes off as a bit of a dick, but given everything he's been through in the first movie, it does make sense for him to be untrusting of the outsiders, and we do see him trying to get to know Kovu). As for it redoing scenes from the first movie, at least it's not copying it beat-for-beat with no shred of effort like 'The Little Mermaid 2' (or even the 'Beauty and the Beast' remake, for that matter). I will admit that Nuka is annoying, but I think the moment where he dies is meant more to escalate conflicting emotion for Kovu.
I appreciate and recognise that Nuka's death causes tension between Kovu & the outsiders (Like I said, he only has a unique purpose when he dies), but it's still trying to be a sad scene at the same time.
I LOVE AND ADORE THIS MOVIE! I have many fond memories of watching this movie endlessly by myself or whenever I would have a friend or friends over they too wanted to watch this movie! I can quote this movie all the way through! To me, it's an underrated masterpiece in its own way despite all of the flaws that it has. I'm the kind of person that can still say that a movie is a masterpiece despite its flaws I'm just that way. Lol, however, everything he said about it I can most certainly agree with for he sounded pretty reasonable to me, but, I'm the kind of person that even when I get older and notice different things it doesn't affect my love for the movie at all in fact I love it just the way it is. It's just how I am. :) By the way, I'm a huge Simba fan and normally I would love the child of the main character the best but in this case I actually love Kovu so much more than Kiara. I remember when I was a kid finding Kovu to be a very epic character it's one of those super rare moments where I love another character more than the main one. Simba is my first favorite, Kovu is my second, and Kiara is my third. :)
My Thoughts On *The Lion King* Trilogy: The Lion King: It's brilliant The Lion King 2: My favorite The Lion King 1 and a Half (or 3 depending which country your in): it was enjoyable but definitely uneeded The Lion Guard: Could be a lot better but it isn't terrible The Lion King Remake: rehash of the original don't get me wrong i enjoyed it but it is the EXACT same thing as the 1994 film with a few differences which is lazy writing to me
My thoughts: The Lion King: Excellent, but the final fight is a headscratcher. The Lion King II: It's okay, I guess. Good songs. The Lion King 1 and 1/2: Thanks, but no thanks. The Lion Guard: Why? 2019 Remake: *NO!*
Scar DID want to secure a line of his own but that scene was deleted Anywho most of your Critique feels almost exclusively nit picked, on the subject of nuka we're not supposed to care but nessessarily but pity him for being delt a bad hand in life
This movie actually suffers from a lot of problems that are present in "James the Red Engine" the 3rd book in The Railway Series. Both were rushed into completion, the animation is inconsistent in terms of quality (much like the illustrations in James the Red Engine), and the plot being a cheap copy of the 1st film's plot, much like James' book recycling the same plot from the previous book "Thomas The Tank Engine". I have ALOT of other problems with this movie that aren't shared with James' book. In the ending where the outsiders reform and join Simba's pride, Kiara gives a very brief speech about how the Outsiders look like Simba's pride, then Vitani and literally ALL the outsiders are convinced by this 1 little speech and somehow Zira is the only one who isn't convinced? A lot of characters like Nala and ESPECIALLY Zazu are sidelined in the film. The latter I believe only has 4-5 lines. Although the worst hand drawn TLK film is far from being a terrible film. A terrible sequel, yes, but there are a few good elements here and there. Kiara has an arc and a personality both unique to her. I do like the idea of Simba going through father issues and trying to protect his pride and trying too hard to be like his father as it seems like a very natural way to continue Simba's character journey. Although that arc still seems very half baked. Vitani's "arc" is basically nothing. She is always depicted as a generic faithful henchman character up until the very end when she reforms at the last moment( which is also the last time we see her on screen). Although the worst hand drawn TLK film is far from being a terrible film. A terrible sequel, yes, but there are a few good elements here and there. Kiara has an arc and a personality both unique to her. Overall, It is a mediocre, kind of ugly movie. One that I'm sure the filmmakers themselves were probably disappointed in.
Zira is so badass, she is better than Scar as a villain. Scar is just a coward, but Zira is a real warrior, she chose to rush into the river, but not to unite with the enemy. She has an honor.
When you come to the realization that Lion King is a story about oppression. Not!!😂 But in all seriousness the reason the Hyenas couldn’t live in the pride lands because they over hunted, caused problems, and hated the lions. Hell They tried to kill Simba. In the second one Simba wasn’t oppressing anyone those Lions hated Simba and wanted to get revenge on Simba for killing Scar, there for they couldn’t live in the pride lands.
I hated Timon and Pumbaa in this one, especially the first part when they were whining because it is a girl rather than a boy. And are always trying to pawn her off.
I ABSOLUTELY ADORE THE LION KING 2 and it's my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE DISNEY MOVIE, and possibly #1 favorite film in-general as well (though that's officially The Prince of Egypt at the moment), and although my bias made me unable to see the merit in 2/3 of your criticisms with this movie, I COULDN'T AGREE MORE with basically EVERY SINGLE GOOD THING you had to say about it! In fact, with 2 of them, I have even STRONGER positive feelings: I am literally romantically IN LOVE with Kiara and have been for about 10 months straight (I ADORE HER SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!), and Not One of Us (which, if you don't recall, is the song during Kovu's banishment) MAKES ME SOB SO HARD EVERY TIME! When I recently rewatched THAT ONE SCENE for a ranking of my favorite songs that I'm working on, I CRIED SO HARD MY EYES WERE STINGING AND MY HANDS WERE SHAKING SO MUCH I COULDN'T WRITE THAT PART OF THE VIDEO'S SCRIPT WITHOUT MISSPELLING EVERY WORD!!!!!!!!!! Additionally, this is a movie about anthropomorphic animals, which means furries are going to love it, and its 2 most important characters are blatantly asexual. Both furs and aces are EXTREMELY misunderstood and discriminated against, especially in this day and age, and what do you know, I happen to be an asexual furry! THIS FILM MAKES ME FEEL SO GOOD ABOUT BELONGING TO THOSE 2 GROUPS, and in fact, it was the #1 thing responsible for me embracing both of those identities! I know, this whole comment is biased, BUT as someone who ABSOLUTELY ADORES this movie, I just wanted to chime in!
i think lion king 2 is really good, the only real flaw is that there were no lion supporters of Scar in no.1 and zira is a poor villain, but it is great for what the 90s sequels were. I also think some of your criticism is irrelavant, like as in you focus too much on what the story is not as opposed to what the strory is
This with Aladdin and the King of Thieves and Cinderella 3 is one of the Disney sequels I really enjoy. And there were lioness that weren't there during the final scene of the Lion King: ua-cam.com/video/SXdlJlzn0dk/v-deo.html As Scar said, Sarabi's hunting party wasn't there, maybe there were other hunting parties that were more faithful to Scar, hunting someplace else during the final showdown. It's a stretch but I could roll with that.
It's a big stretch, and again, you had to find your own theory (a good observation on your part, don't get me wrong). It would have been much stronger writing if the LK 2 writers clarified this with an emotional flashback (or at least a casual passing mention), showing the outsiders returning to face the outcome of Scar's defeat. Without that clarification, the outsiders feel forced into this narrative and their backstories lack weight.
Jambareeqi Yeah, I don’t think the writers thought of that explanation either. They would have showed it more clearly in this case. Or maybe they did thought about it but either didn’t had the budget or the talent to tell it well enough. And the budget is not really an excuse since they could have cut some scenes like the Upendi song to save the animation needed to clarify these plotholes. Making Rafiki sing was a mistake. It’s the kind of uneven movies like Atlantis or The king of thieves that I do enjoy and in which I see the potential for a so much better film. The elements are all there, they just needed to either be extended or rearranged.
The Lion King 2 and The Lion King one where my favourite movies and the characters were really really good Kiara is my favourite character because she's so funny she has a Charming personality.
I like this movie the same way I like Big Hero 6, the ideas it gives are far more interesting than how it presented them. I agree with your criticisms, and honestly, can't really shoot most of these things down. Honestly, what helps this movie is the fact that they've managed to make new characters likeable and give just enough interesting ideas that you can in fact interpret them in your own way however you want. Sure, the outsiders came out of nowhere, and Scar would never pick an heir. But, maybe it's because they came during the time Scar tried to gain power, and if Pridelanders had no interest in helping him, maybe these random group of desperate lioness would. Maybe their leader, who openly showed affection to him could help him. Until she showed herself as too much and he had to deal with her to leave for now. Heck, maybe she handpicked for him too, who knows. But this is just me making up fanfiction, and is exactly the reason it still being remembered fondly. Big Hero 6 is also pretty okay, besides its main duo, everything else became more interesting once you give Fanworks a chance.
Disliking a movie for a few potholes because every single movie has them, I don't see it as the best movie ever but I certainly love it. I don't really agree on the rant about the upendi song, I thought it was funny.
Dark Blue I gave a variety of reasons for why I thought the film was flawed, not just plot holes. Yes, plot holes are common in films, but there's a point where they become a major distraction, and a sign of bad writing, that's the case for the plot holes in this movie for me. All power to you for loving the movie, that's great, but you can't expect everyone else to turn a blind eye to problems you personally don't mind.
No, I did mind them. I noticed them lol. I don't objectify with your other reasons, I only meant that every movie has plotholes. I do agree with a lot of stuff you mentioned, I do wish there would have been a lot more fleshed out like Vitani, I loved her as a child. As much as I loved the chemistry Kiara and Kovu had but if they had more scenes together it would have been better. I also saw Nuka as a pointless character, he's only there to turn Zira and Kovu against each other, since Vitani was a more interesting character if she would have been the one to die it would have been more interesting. (But I would have cried my eyes out if she died though, lol) But it would have made the story more intense.
I have to agree about Nuka's death it was Zira's fault because she payed more attention to Kovu and it made him neglected from his own mother which is really sad
Honestly I Think This Movie's Underrated AF, Sure, It's Not Amazing & It Does Have Plotholes, But I Still Liked It Alot, Specially Compared To The Other Disney Sequels Which R Either Bland, Unfuriating Or Both
Thank you Jambareeqi, I couldn't have said it any better myself, these are the same criticisms I've always had towards The Lion King 2, even as a kid I didn't get how Zira and her pride were connected to Scar. I mean that's just lazy writing! Still a good sequel though.
I think the comment "Kovu wasn't even his son, scar just chose him" or whatever he said, was placed there because at first Kovu was going to be Scars direct son but that would actually make Kiara and Kovu cousins. So it had to be clear they weren't related lol
I guess it would make more sense if only Zira had a connection with Scar, but I also grew up with this movie and I still think it's good. Also, I don't think the creators of the Lion King were planning on making a sequel, so that might be one reason as to why things don't quite add up. A lot of times if movies expect to make a sequel, the original isn't the best to begin with. Or so I've seen anyway
A sequel may have never been intended, but that doesn't mean the filmmakers behind this movie had no responsability to carry on the story faithfully (Quite the opposite, that was their job,). The Lion King 2 filmmakers had a whole movie to work with, to watch again and again to see what material had already been established.
The movie is fine, the songs are generally good and I truly enjoyed Zira, not as much as Scar but she's still cool. I wish they'd taken a slightly more of a dark tone and used Nala more in certain scenes. Tbh I *really* don't like Kiara, maybe it was the voice? I didn't like Kovu's voice much either but it didn't bother me that much. The love story isn't terrible but I just don't care for it, it's tolerable. Then again, I don't like most love stories with exceptions such as e.g. Jack & Rose, Jon & Ygritte, Mulan and Shang (I liked in *Mulan* how they kept it subtle, in the background).
I loved this movie compaired to that piece of crap Lion King 1/2 movie... Granted this movie did not talk about how and why Kovu and his pride wound up on the outside of the pride Rock family.... But Simba had to learn that there is good in most..... What I love is that not only Kovu changed by the end of the film, but his siblings also went from bad to good... But it also shows that people can be so filled with hate that it could kill them.....
Also, consider this. Kovu is the son of Zira (and possibly Scar), while Kiera is the daughter of Simba and Nala. Also, factor in that Simba is also Scar's nephew. I know that Kovu isn't overtly revealed to be Scar's son, but if it is, then he would be Simba's cousin. Then if so, would that make the romantic relationship between Kovu and Kiera incestuous? I honestly like your version of Zira's Pride better: just war-hungry nomads. Connecting them with Scar is just overcomplicated and. . .kinda. . .gross.
he is NOT scar's son. he was orginally till they realized the incest to which the film clearly states TWICE that Scar is not Kovu's father. who is? we don't know
Mermain123 Well, I guess I was wrong about the whole thing. I was just assuming, I didn’t research on the subject nor have I seen this movie for years. It was just speculation on my part. But I’ll still stand by the fact that connecting the rival pride to Scar just complicates the story.
Zira was the highlight of the movie for me.
I agree.
I saw kovu
Yeah her song is really amazing and her character is nice and underrated
When you think about it, making Timon and Pumbaa incompetent with watching Kiara is a large plot hole. The duo helped raise Simba, so they should have experience with watching a lion cub.
Idk, they raised Simba in a tropical paradise with all the grubs they could eat. Given their personalities, they probably had a very lackadaisical approach to raising Simba. The expectations put on Kiara and them were much tighter
There's also the fact that Susan Plachette (Zira) and Jason Marsden (Kovu) were also featured in 'Spirited Away'.
The English dub?
@@GabsARV yep
This movie is one of my guilty pleasures. Kiara was like a female scar to me, and less over the top. I actually loved her musical number!
You mean Zira? And I wouldn't say that Zira is less over the top than Scar, because you can't get any hammier than Zira haha.
Yeah, Ha ha.
If you mean Zira then I agree with you.
Kiara is not like a female scar
I'd love to start doing videos on deleted scenes from animated movies, so i'll keep this film in mind.
the movie is inspired by romeo and Juliet like the first movie is inspired by hamlet
I knew this. Even when I was little I caught onto that.
"I personally consider this to be the best Disney sequel"
Rescuers Down Under says hello.
This is my favorite Disney Direct-to video sequel
Accidents can happen.")
Simba's lack of trust in Kovu makes perfect sense.
Interesting, I might appreciate Simba's arc a bit more in another viewing after reading this.
ThatOneGinge just say 1/2.
Jambareeqi I'm impressed that they actually put that much thought into it 😅
Gracekim1 it's called "The Lion King 3: Hakuna Matata" in my country.
Your description put everything I've thought of Simba into words beautiful. Honestly it makes me realize why I identified with this film so much. Simba and Kiara's relationship is very similar to me and my dad as well.
As an avid Disney fan. This is one of the better Disney sequals Imo. But TRDU is still the best!
If it's not in the finished film, it's not official.
@@Jambareeqi it was added back into the stage musical
@@carlosalmonacid8958 Again, if it's not in the original film, it doesn't count. This is a sequel to the film, not the musical.
What about Simba's character in this movie? I was kinda expecting to hear your thoughts on their execution of him.
I brought up how the film doesn't give his arc enough attention, and that his subplot feels flat because of this.
I have to be in just that right mood to actually want to sit through some of these
18:14 sooo, Kovu is discount Zuko from Avatar Last Airbender? Cool!!
And both get a scar on the face from an abusive parent.
I always thought that Vitani looked like punk version of Kiara
The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride might be as good as the original but it's a decent sequel the good things about this movie the animation is nice and the songs are underrated.
is it just me or does the animation always has an orangy red color all the time. There is no blue at all.
What about the star scene?
To be honest if they waited a few more years after the lion king and they made it a theatrical release, then it could have been really good.
You know what? You're right. If this movie released years after the first film, it could've been better.
I agree that existence of Outsiders makes no sense in this continuity, because:
a) Clearly, majority of lionesses did not support Scar, so Scar had to form this pride outside of Pride Lands
b) The idea that Scar was able to form an entire lion pride outside of Pride Lands is preposterous.
b) The idea that such a huge number of lions would join Scar, who is an objectively bad leader, is just as equally preposteours.
5:20 Forget doing the writers job how about designing one of their own scrapped villains?
Surprised you didn't talk about the deleted scenes
I only review a movie as it's finished product. However, I will be doing a video on deleted scenes from animated films in the future.
Let’s take over other rocks
Haha this reads even funnier from an account with a colonial flag xD btw, I like your speed painting video! :)
Oh my god! Was so excited when this came up on my recommended! Wooooo
At least this movie is better than the 2019 remake
It's not too hard to be better than that.
Heres my alternate idea for the outsiders:
Mufasa banished them for trying to kill him and rule his kingdom they where planning revenge on him ever since but when Scar kills Mufasa they decide not to challenge him because he had thousands of Hyenas so when Scar is defeated by Simba they decide thats when there plan to rule Pride Rock should begin
If you look at deleted scenes from the lion king, Scar was going to make Nala his bride and there he was talking about his descendants. How he was going to live forever and be immortal through his children.
Actually, there's a deleted scene where Scar discusses with Nala that he needs a queen and descendants.
I know. If it's not in the film, it's not official cannon.
@@Jambareeqi
Okay. When you said that he never talked about having descendants, I didn't know if you knew about the deleted scene or not.
4:20 actually in a deleted scene he wanted to have cubs with Nala
Awesome review Jam, I’m in the minority but I actually like Lion King 1/2 a little better than Lion King 2!
The Lion King was amazing.
The Lion King 2 was mediocre.
The Lion King 3 was hilarious.
I actually like the lion king 3 over the lion king 2
Actually man there is a deleted scene in the original Lion king movie where Scar decides to produce a new bloodline even choosing Nala as his queen. So if you take that into consideration it does make sense.
It's not officially canon if it was deleted.
It still doesn't make sense
20:14 But it could have been far worse than that nightmare Mulan 2. Hell I even dreamed a few days ago that I was re-watching it with some extra scenes!
Nah, Mulan 2 isn’t that bad in comparison to other sequels (looking at you Pocahontas 2 and Hunchback 2) and at least the music was pretty decent.
This was my childhood
Honestly I think the film is a good standalone movie, but as a sequel to Lion King, it falls flat. It’s kind of needlessly and goes with some of that same princess vibe we always get from Disney. I’m on saying the movie is bad, but I won’t say it’s as good as what people have been saying about it
I love zira more than scar by the way can you do the top ten best and worst Pixar movies
I think Zira was more insane than scar
Totally, but she has the exact same motives as Scar, she's just more enthusiastic about her plans
It is one of the best sequels I saw.
Kovu and Kiara great together just like simba and nala too
My Thoughts On *The Lion King* Trilogy:
The Lion King: It's brilliant
The Lion King 2: My favorite
The Lion King 1 and a Half (or 3 depending which country your in): it was enjoyable but definitely uneeded
The Lion Guard: Could be a lot better but it isn't terrible
The Lion King Remake: rehash of the original don't get me wrong i enjoyed it but it is the EXACT same thing as the 1994 film with a few differences which is lazy writing to me
My thoughts:
The Lion King: Excellent, but the final fight is a headscratcher.
The Lion King II: It's okay, I guess. Good songs.
The Lion King 1 and 1/2: Thanks, but no thanks.
The Lion Guard: Why?
2019 Remake: *NO!*
Over the hedge
Scar DID want to secure a line of his own but that scene was deleted
Anywho most of your Critique feels almost exclusively nit picked, on the subject of nuka we're not supposed to care but nessessarily but pity him for being delt a bad hand in life
I though it was ok, I prefer Lion King 1 1/2. Athough, both flims are better then the 2019 remake.
How do you review this film and not talk about the romeo and Juliet parallel
I mentioned it, I didn't ignore it entirely. I didn't go into detail about it, because this is a film review, not an adaptation review.
Review the 3 Garfield movies, Garfield Gets Real, Garfield's Fun Fest, Garfield's Pet Force.
What about reviewing Lion King 1 and a half?
Zira is so badass, she is better than Scar as a villain. Scar is just a coward, but Zira is a real warrior, she chose to rush into the river, but not to unite with the enemy. She has an honor.
When you come to the realization that Lion King is a story about oppression. Not!!😂
But in all seriousness the reason the Hyenas couldn’t live in the pride lands because they over hunted, caused problems, and hated the lions. Hell They tried to kill Simba. In the second one Simba wasn’t oppressing anyone those Lions hated Simba and wanted to get revenge on Simba for killing Scar, there for they couldn’t live in the pride lands.
How do u do smbfneuaid
I'm out
I hated Timon and Pumbaa in this one, especially the first part when they were whining because it is a girl rather than a boy. And are always trying to pawn her off.
Yeah so true i mean should it matter if it a boy or a girl
I feel like Zira was WAY more intense and had a weird creepy uncle vibe lol
i think lion king 2 is really good, the only real flaw is that there were no lion supporters of Scar in no.1 and zira is a poor villain, but it is great for what the 90s sequels were. I also think some of your criticism is irrelavant, like as in you focus too much on what the story is not as opposed to what the strory is
It’s okay nothing near the original but when people say can you feel the love tonight is not as good as love will find a way. You know somethings up
Lion king 2 is better than the Lion king remake But Worst then the original
This with Aladdin and the King of Thieves and Cinderella 3 is one of the Disney sequels I really enjoy. And there were lioness that weren't there during the final scene of the Lion King: ua-cam.com/video/SXdlJlzn0dk/v-deo.html
As Scar said, Sarabi's hunting party wasn't there, maybe there were other hunting parties that were more faithful to Scar, hunting someplace else during the final showdown.
I never like that sequel
I give it 2/2.5
Toy Story 2 is better
I love the music better in the second one
The Lion King 2 and The Lion King one where my favourite movies and the characters were really really good Kiara is my favourite character because she's so funny she has a Charming personality.
Ou~ I'm early for once and you're reviewing one of my altime favorite sequels! HYPE!
Plz do scooby doo and the alien invaders. Love your videos
I'd say it's significantly underrated!
This movie is trash. But I adore it
Disliking a movie for a few potholes because every single movie has them, I don't see it as the best movie ever but I certainly love it.
Yeah, it could had been better.
I have to agree about Nuka's death it was Zira's fault because she payed more attention to Kovu and it made him neglected from his own mother which is really sad
Honestly I Think This Movie's Underrated AF, Sure, It's Not Amazing & It Does Have Plotholes, But I Still Liked It Alot, Specially Compared To The Other Disney Sequels Which R Either Bland, Unfuriating Or Both
Flight of the Dragons? What is that!?
Legion Darkness-Bobulus A Rankin Bass fantasy movie
I never had someone reply to me on their video before. Thanks! :D
Thank you Jambareeqi, I couldn't have said it any better myself, these are the same criticisms I've always had towards The Lion King 2, even as a kid I didn't get how Zira and her pride were connected to Scar. I mean that's just lazy writing! Still a good sequel though.
What about Zazu babysitting Kiara? Since he did the same thing for Simba in the first movie.
This is one of my favourite sequels
It gets 4 and 3 quarters strawberries out of 5 for me
First woooo hoooooooooo !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh wait nobody cares, ok then
My review:
Context 3/5
Animation 4/5
Characters 4/5
Voice Acting 4/5
Music 4/10

I think the comment "Kovu wasn't even his son, scar just chose him" or whatever he said, was placed there because at first Kovu was going to be Scars direct son but that would actually make Kiara and Kovu cousins. So it had to be clear they weren't related lol
I understand your reasons for not liking this movie but this is better than Mulan 2 , the hunchback of notre dame 2 and Belle's Magical world
I'm surprised we didn't get A lion king 3.
Cool
It’s basically a fan film not an actual sequel
Ok but how is kovu not scars son he looks so much like scar it’s creepy
I loved this movie compaired to that piece of crap Lion King 1/2 movie... Granted this movie did not talk about how and why Kovu and his pride wound up on the outside of the pride Rock family.... But Simba had to learn that there is good in most..... What I love is that not only Kovu changed by the end of the film, but his siblings also went from bad to good... But it also shows that people can be so filled with hate that it could kill them.....
Um. No. The Lion King 3 is actually enjoyable.
I'm not aptempting to watch full review, so I'm gonna say that it's one of better Disney sequels
The lionking 2 is still a much better remake than the lion shit of 2019.
Connecting them with Scar is just overcomplicated and. . .kinda. . .gross.
he is NOT scar's son. he was orginally till they realized the incest to which the film clearly states TWICE that Scar is not Kovu's father. who is? we don't know
"Kovu, Kovu, Kovu! Scar wasn't even his father! He just took him in!" -Nuka
Mermain123 Well, I guess I was wrong about the whole thing. I was just assuming, I didn’t research on the subject nor have I seen this movie for years. It was just speculation on my part. But I’ll still stand by the fact that connecting the rival pride to Scar just complicates the story.
that's fine. i hope i didn't come across as rude
You didn't.
And the outsiders kinda came out of no where
You do realize I'll fight you to the bitter end over this movie, right?
In the words of Donald Trump: Wrong.
AmethystGMD keep that shit out of here
This movie is better than the first
I agree
I personally hate this movie. It annoys me how racist Simba is being towards Kovu.
This sequel's overrated
