Both German vessels were more modern in engineering design than Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth. I would even include US s/s United States which in turn had obsolete hull design and bow.
got to wonder why Gibbs&co did not design a bulbous bow for the big U.
why did the US navy stop useing Europa as a troopship after just a few crssings? stability?
