I used to live straight down Linden (past that stop sign) to 650 Western Ave. Just ran across this video and learned some things I never heard growing up n Glen Ellyn in the 60s - 70s. Married myself a Canadian man so here I am in Ontario Canada reminiscing. Thanks for the videos guys.
@9:49 i used to mow the lawn the man is standing on there at Main and Linden back in the early 90s. Mrs Carlson! Such a sweet lady, she paid me $20 which was pretty good back then - I’ll never forget when her neighbor across the street accosted me telling me i was overcharging her. Pretty much told that old man to go pound sand. Amazing history, had no idea that lot used to be an indian burial ground.
I remember that first one as we moved to Glen Ellyn when I was 6 years old in ‘72. I remember that gas station as we lived a few blocks away on Marion Ave. I used to walk to that White Hen Pantry every day for sodas and candy. Do you guys know if the Jaycees still does the Captain Danbys Haunted House? I have vivid memories of the set up they did every year at the old railroad warehouse at Pennsylvania and Western Avenues. Pretty sure that building is long gone now.
