    Very glad to see this. I'm always worried that my leo is stressed but the only sign she ever shows is sqeaking when she's in an uncomfortable position and that doesn't happen often. Most of the time she is very active, moves when I pet her, and etc which, from what I heard, are signs of a healthy/happy leo!
    I feel like she is one of a kind. She is a very VERY curious and active leopard gecko! Whenever I redo her tank (usually to both improve and clean up areas of the tank), she just HAS to check it out! It seems as if she explores every inch of her tank before settling herself under the heat lamp. She does have a few hides, it just she seems to prefer being in the open directly under the heat lamp. I placed a flat rock under it with a skull decor hanging over to give her at least some shelter. Moss is lined around the rock and I placed together a little ramp with some wood that leads over to the top of her rock hide. It's not that tall so she can safely climb up and down but whenever I check the cameras, it seems that she would rather just crawl/jump down from the rock instead of walk down :P
    Also I'm not sure if she would be considered obese or not. Her tail is about as wide/slightly smaller than the width of her head. I'm not sure if it would be considered healthy or not. She doesn't ever seem to have trouble balancing or walking around or anything like that.

    Thanks for this video I just got my first gecko he apparently wasn’t handled a lot so I’m trying to work on it with him but I don’t want to stress or scare him so I want to know when it’s time to put him back

      Hello! I would say it’s best that you handle your leopard gecko for no more than about 30 minutes at a time. They can get stressed out and cold if you handle them too much or for too long, so I would be careful.

    Great Video! My albino Gecko (the one who went off food for a while) used to ALWAYS hide back when he didn't eat for me. He's eating better now and he kind comes out more. Also, Winter glass surfs when ever I feed Slinky, who is in the tank right next to her. Is she scared/stressed or just hungry? She only does it when I feed Slinky, and she doesn't do it when Slinky is out, so maybe she just is hungry. I just want to make sure my gecko isn't stressed out. Thank you! Have a good day!

    • @theartsygecko9518
      @theartsygecko9518  3 роки тому +2

      Thank you! That's good to hear! If she only does it when you feed Slinky and she doesn't show any other stress signs I wouldn't worry too much. She might just be curious or hungry like you said. I hope you have a great day too!

    I got my Leo about 3 weeks ago and started handling a week in because he seemed very comfortable with handling. With time he got more and more stressed when I take him out. When I would go to put him back he would glass surf like he wanted to go back out but as soon as I would even move my hand (which was not in the tank) he would wag his tail slowly. Today I put him back after and ok handling session and he started acting weird, he would try to press his face on the glass; I moved just to see him better and he quickly turned back around almost to the point of flipping over and only stood up very tall. He has not screamed, bit, wagged his tail at me, or anything that you mentioned in this video. Do you know what this might be?

    • @theartsygecko9518
      @theartsygecko9518  2 роки тому +1

      Sorry for answering late! Is he still doing this? If so I would check his enclosure and be sure he has at least three hides, adequate temperatures, enough decor, and an overall safe and comfortable setup. I would also check for any possible signs of health issues such as runny or strange feces, lethargy, not eating, etc. If this goes on for very long and you can’t find out why you may want to consider getting him checked by a veterinarian. It’s always better to be safe than sorry with these things. Hope this helps at least a little :)

    i have a dog and she barks quite alot and id hate for my leo to be scared, it makes me feel so bad that i just got her and she isn't able to have a quiet place. her tank and everything is perfect, i have done so much research and she's somewhat used to me now but that's the only thing that stresses me out. i also dont have any other place to put my gecko besides my room. another problem i have is that my bedroom is always dark (i have leds and string lights everywhere) but i have a lamp that i will turn on for her so she can tell the difference between day and night but i can't turn it on early enough because sometimes i get up around 8-10am and sometimes i stay up all night and sleep all day, but when i do wake up early i turn the lamp on, but the thing i'm concerned about is it's not consistent so i'm working on my sleep schedule. i hope you are looking at older comment sections because it would be appreciated if you could help me. i just got my leo from my sister (about 2-3 months ago) her name is ziggy.

    Hey ik this video is pretty old but if anyone sees this im wondering about my gecko, she hasnt been eating much or just seems less interested in her food, i redid her enclosure before she started acting like this. She still roams around outside her tank fine and actually eats when i have her out with me. Ive had her for a few months now. Lastly im wondering because you said if they hide alot thats not a good sign but my gecko roams from the cold and hot spots of her enclosure is that alright?

    My leo hisses at night at least once or twice. Shes out and about but mainly just lays in a couple places i see when shes out at night. This is the only problem ive been having. Besides tail waving once or twice when i bring her out. She has no problem with me handling her though. She usually crawls onto my hand and up my arms. But the night hissing stresses me out. Idk if it because she doesnt have a heat source at night because i turn all lights off because no light is best for them. A temp drop is also good for them at nights. Its aroung 75 degrees in my room. Shes also has a 40 gallon with a sand mat, 3 hides and plenty of fake bushy desert plants some faie succulents. She has large peices of wood to climb on also. And the necessities like food, water and cacium dish. She gets a large super warm ever other day and poops regualry. I just dont know why she hisses at night. I feel like its the temp drop but its healthy for leos to have a temp drop at nights. Shes 7 months old

He jumped off my hand ran under my bed I got a top to pin him down and I cut off his tail THEN HIS FOOT. And I’m scared he is going to die because I have to get him food because I just got him and he has to regrow a foot and his tail without any stored up nutrients because he doesn’t have a tail anymore. I just hope he makes it through. Any experience with something like this happening. Did yours make it through. I just need someone who knows this experience to talk to.

      Glass surfing is normal when you first get your leopard gecko because they are unused to their surroundings. He should stop once he gets settled in a little more. Just in case, you may want to check and make sure his enclosure temperatures are where they should be and that his cage is as comfortable as possible for him.

    Older video but if you see my comment, I rescued a female leopard gecko she is super sweet she likes laying on my chest for body heat, when I picked her up to put her back in her clean tank, she started chirping at me! She hides in here little cave and comes out once in a while to eat, drink, bathe, or poo.
    Yeah she did the tail thing to me when I held my hand to have her crawl on me. I told her it's okay baby girl, then she jumped on my hand and chilled.
    Also she likes to be pet so I gently rub my finger down her head.

    I'm really hoping, that you are still looking at older video comment sections.
    I am in the weird situation with my 3month old leopard gecko. The moving in, and getting used to me process went really good. We were at the state of her finally brave enough to eat from my palm, and feel safe enough to even go walk on it to get the millworms. But for the last 4 feeding times, she knows, that its me, its feeding time, she gets really excited, yet as soon as my hands are going for the front sliding window of her enclosure, she slowly walks away and when i try to hand him the food, she just starts to go back to her hideout, refusing to eat from even clippers or from the ground when i put them in.
    Im a bit worried now, and im in need of some help. Im hoping that you can serve me some kind of explanation to this, because im doing this with patience for months now, nothing changed, im doing a routine to make it easy for her i even do have some distance, not doing it every feeding time, so its not forced. Im just worried you know.
    Sorry my english is not top notch, but im hoping you can at least make me somewhat less worried.
    Thank you!

    • @theartsygecko9518
      @theartsygecko9518  2 роки тому +1

      Hey I’m not totally sure why she would be doing that, but they do go through weird phases sometimes. Did anything happen recently that could have made her scared of you? And have you noticed any other weird behavior?

    • @DjMettheex
      @DjMettheex 2 роки тому

      First of all Thank You for answering and taking the time.
      Nothing really happened here since. Im usually a calm and silent person, and im aware of her presence so im not blasting music or anything.
      She dont look stressed out, no tailwaving and such. She actually notices me, as we do our routine, i put the night lights on, she gets out of her hide, yawns sometimes, walks slowly to her favourite little fossil branch and looks at me as i prepare her food and everything. I open her front door enclosure, she gets excited comes a little bit closer, as soon as i move the clipper, or my finger close to the enclosure she backs. Even if i try to stay as far away as i can and put her food on the fossil, or the foodbowl. Luckly, shes eating.. because her food is gone next time i check her. But its just odd.
      Also! She started to nap nowadays on her little palace at the top (she have a "rocky wall" on the back of the enclosure handmade out of cement) and spends most of the time there at night.
      One last thing i should tell, and i think it "can be"? a problem, is that the left side of her enclosure, is just plain glass, and maybe she sees the mirror image of the same hand that goes in from the front. Please confirm if i should try to paint it black, or maybe "glue" a cover on it.
      Roomtemp is around 25C, her enclosure air temp is 26C, cold hide 24C, warm hide 26C, warm spot under the heatlamp 27.5C.

      Hello, I’m so sorry for not responding sooner. Is she still acting like this? From what you’ve described her behavior seems pretty normal and healthy, besides her being scared of your hand. I wouldn’t be too worried, as long as she's active and seems to be eating fine. My only guess is it might just be a phase. It could be she’s getting more aware that something big and moving like your hand could potentially be a predator. My leopard geckos have gone through phases too where they haven’t wanted to be held at all. Her warm side/basking temperatures do seem a little low to me though. The basking surface temperature should be around 33-35 C and the warm hide around 31-33 C in the day. It can get quite a bit lower at night though. Sorry if all this isn’t too helpful, I wish I knew why she is acting this way. Hope you have a great day :)

      @@theartsygecko9518 Lately she's getting a bit more brave, its completely fine for her if i try to pick her up. I think its maybe the way i changed her enclosure and upgraded the heating a little. She seems more active, and eats normally. Only thing that changed and bothers me a bit, that shes not getting that much sleep. Often walking around in the morning and sleeping during the night. But as far as eating, pooping and other stuff goes, i think shes just the way she is C:

      What kind of substrate are you using? Some leopard geckos have a natural instinct to dig, and if you aren't using loose substrate already I would recommend you switch to something like organic topsoil/play sand mix, or at least provide a dig box. It's very enriching for leopard geckos to dig and a lot them like to do it.

It's normal for them to be kind of stressed out when you first get them, and glass surfing usually isn't a huge deal. You may want to check over his cage just in case to make sure everything is safe and comfortable for him though. Good luck :)

    This is very informative, I already subscribed and I hope you reach 400 and even a thousand. Question, how often and how much to feed a leopard gecko? Does it depends on their age? Hope you can make a video about it as well!

    • @theartsygecko9518
      @theartsygecko9518  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you so much! It does depend on how old they are. Baby leopard geckos should be fed every day until they reach about 6-7 months old, then I would switch to every other day. You should start feeding them about 2-3 times a week once they reach a year old. Normally I would feed as many of your staple insects as your leopard gecko will eat, but not over 7-8. You can also feed treats like superworms or waxworms but no more than a few every two weeks or so. I hope this isn't too confusing!

      She is definitely huge, and not on steroids lol. She’s been like that since she was a baby and is also overweight. I’ve had her on a diet for a while. She’s just extremely big for a leopard gecko, especially a female😅

    Hi! I know this was 3 years ago but please dont feed your gecko to much! Your gecko looks obese which if you dont know means really unhealthy and i heard they can die from being to big because theh cant get the food down all the way ;(

    I don't wanna be mean, but I think your leopard gecko is obese. I don't know if you know that and if your gecko is on a diet, but please look into this. It can seriously cause damage to their health

      Yeah I know and I've had a lot of people tell me that😂 She is on a diet and has been for quite a long while. She really doesn't eat much at all, but is losing weight VERY slowly. I honestly feel super bad
