  • Arguably the fastest design we have yet seen in the new generation of AC75s, certainly one of the most powerful, INEOS Britannia know they have a potent weapon that is more than capable of reversing 173 years of history at the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup and on Saturday it was time to test the lower end capabilities of this rocket-ship. She didn’t disappoint.

    Great to see INEOS lifting off in light airs, suely one of the most worrying aspects of this cup for all the teams.

    Getting visibly better day by day after a (literally) wobbly start. Increasingly looking like they will be in the game. All the boats are starting at a much higher level compared to the last campaign - the foiling technology is maturing. I suspect it will boil down to the skill of the crew and the coaches in the end.

    Really look forward to seeing these designs duke it out. I assure you American Magic's crew placement is not about communication but rather mass centralization. I think one of the reasons for Ineo's chunky squared aft design is to stop airflow under the boat as is the skeg. Let's goooo!

    Ineos' chase boat has a Union Flag, which is upside down, and a "land flag". You are representing the UK and the Royal Yacht Squadron, fly the correct Ensign!

    She's not the prettiest of the bunch but I think she looks fast - although it's impossible to tell how they are compared to each other as they all look fast on their own..
    I think Ineos will have recurring nightmares of not being able to get up on the foils last time while other teams sailed over the horizon - so I'm very happy that it can get foiling in light air.

    Does anyone have already typical Polar Diagrams for AC75 boats? How do they compare to other fast sailing vessels (AC45, ORMA60, Moth, olympic foilkite, ...). Any website which keeps track of (gu-estimated) Polar Diagrams of different classes in general?

      In INIOS’s design this time round, they have made some radical decisions about centre of gravity, turning moment and support from the rudder (increased and brought forward: not it’s much further forward than their competitors).

      @johnmartin7158 yeah some interesting ideas on the AM boat. It doesn't look like the fastest boat (from an amateur looking in) but they obviously saw something in the data/modeling to convince them to run with it. It may well be very slippery aero wise with its very slim profile. They all have their own little interesting ideas. NZ boat seems conservative but I suspect some of the tech within the boat will be their big secret. And I put money on their race foils being something out of the norm, hence we haven't seen them yet. I think Mozzy Sails is correct in his suspicion of INEOS using the rudder to pull down, rather than lift. Going to be good to watch!

    • @johnmartin7158
      @johnmartin7158 27 днів тому +3

      @@jaysechambers1144 I’ve also heard whispers at the Team NZ dock that there’s only half you can basically see of the Team NZ boat and the other as in the tech NZ is using like you say to me. My gut feeling is NZ will know where they stand with the other boats as far as potential performances go. Foils is where Team NZ excelled last time and I don’t think it will be any different this time.
      Anyway all mysteries on all the boats till the regatta begins
      Cheers. Ak, NZ.
