Dokken was one band back in the day that I regret not seeing, but got to see Lynch Mob in 2013, was able to photograph the show, stood a foot away from George as he played Mr. Scary... a moment a long time coming and one I'll never forget....
Dokken just never really gained much mainstream popularity. Could have been poor management or something but they weren't big like say the Crue or Def Leppard.
@@daviddigital6887They had amazing managers (Metallica’s managers). What messed up this band was the internal conflicts. Hard to get to the top when there was infighting since the second album.
I spoke to Jeff Pilson years ago about this, Lynch & Don never really got along. Back For The Attack SHOULD have seen them headline but things got out of hand in Japan. Beast from the east was it for them.
@@eddiematiassI’d argue RATT was heavier as they had no ballads like Alone Again or Walk Away…and they headlined….my big three Glam era bands are RATT Dokken and Crue
So grateful to the people who managed to sneaked their video cameras into the fantastic gigs in the 80s!! It's so awesome to be able to see! Almost like being there! Love it! Dokken sound bloody great on this!
Agreed. What I hate is people our age (I'm 53) complaining about kids with their cell phones and I'm like "are you kidding me? They're going to be SO happy in the future when there are multiple videos of their favorite shows for them to see". I only wish ALL the shows I saw in the 1980s and 1990s were recorded for me to enjoy the nostalgia today. 😁😁
Don really seems to be having a great time ... I've never heard him sound this great. George....his tone and control are absolute fire. His playing, to me, was some of the absolute best of the 80s. Thank you for posting this.
I know George plays to his own instincts and rarely plays close to the albums, and also how difficult some of the songs are to try and be note for note being the multi layered tracks, but he sounds damn spot on here. More than most I’ve heard. Anymore like this I should check out Tony?
Also really wish they would do an album type concert like Sebastian Bach recently did play an album front to back in its entirety. So many awesome songs don’t get played live. I’ve never even heard a live electric version of “Walk Away” on acoustic…. Shit if they played the whole BFTA album front to back that would be so awesome.
Thanks for posting this, was 2nd row for this show standing the whole time with my jaw on the floor. Still a top 5 show of all time, all these years later.
Can you imagine the music they could have done if they would have been able to put their differences aside and got along they are amazing and their albums are fantastic
Man, this is awesome footage!! I saw this show in Oakland, CA. I was a huge Dokken fan, and Lynch and Demartini were my favorite players at the time. Still love those guys!
Opening for Judas priest I was there it was a good ass concert. Lots of beautiful girls in high heels looking and smelling good. God I miss the eighties
The Priest show was May 28, 1986 at Cobo. I still have my ticket stub for that show. Both Priest and Dokken killed it that night. This video is from an earlier show.
Pretty damn decent audio and video on this! I wish Dokken had more official concert recordings of their 80s work. I would love to have seen all their album tours from 1982-1990 done professionally. The only official one we got was Philadelphia 1987 (great show).
I saw them the following year on November 25, 1987 @ The Toledo Sports Arena. They were opening for Aerosmith on the Permanent Vacation tour. It was a great time to be alive!
the thing was they were opening Judas Priest on this tour. And when Halford took the stage it was like 'hold my beer' . Priest opening song from this tour. ua-cam.com/video/9oaC0SW1i8M/v-deo.html
Gosh I wish Elektra and the team that engineered Dokken's sound would have had the balls to release the songs as HEAVY METAL and not Arena Rock. I just wrote a 3500+ word blog about 'Shadowlife' and while I did this I went on a hunt for rare live performances to see how the songs from "Shadowlife' held up live when compared to the CD. In doing this i came across many videos like this of whole Dokken shows from all eras of the Band and while doing this, hearing all these old songs, even back then, how rich, full and heavy they are. NOT like the CS/LP/CD versions. Breaking the Chains and Tooth and Nail sound horrible, production value-wise. They finally had a better budet for Under Lock and Key and Back for the Attack, but when I hear these songs, all of them, they are more heavier LIVE than what the stuido recordings offer. I just wish they would have said FK it and lets record/release these as heavy as FK'n possible. The writing was on the wall, even back then... Still, enjoy DOKKEN...
While kicking ass with one of the best guitarists of his time, these guys just never pulled away from the opening act circuit. All Don’s fault. Bubblegum lyrics and the lame rock star act wore thin. If they had a powerhouse like Dio on vocals they would have flown.
Because they broke up b4 they got the chance to. Elektra records already told them in the meeting after the monster of rock tour in 1988 that they were just 1 album away after BFTA album in becoming a headliner arena act. But Don could not take it anymore with George. Initially in the meeting, he wants to continue on with dokken with the rest but replace George with another guy but the rest didn't agree with him, so mick ends up decide to join lynch for lynch mob and Jeff did his own solo band and that's why Elektra in the end just said to them to just do the live album which is the beast for the east album and they broke up after that. This info is from fullinbloom UA-cam video. To me, it's the to break up in the pinnacle of your career is the worst thing ever. 🙃
If you're a lead singer, don't play air instruments during a performance. Practice not doing it in rehearsal. It's not very becoming for a singer. Also, if you're not a very good dancer ( like Steven Tyler) don't dance. figure out something else.
Wow, so many here down on Don. By the way, there wouldn't have been Dokken without Don! He's an amazing lead singer/songwriter, and one of the best and most unique voices that I've ever heard. There is no one who sounds like Don Dokken! People are saying that Ronnie James Dio was better, and I'll admit, he had a great voice, but not as appealing as Don's. Oh, and I prefer Don's "dancing" to Steven Tyler's any day (just my opinion) and all of the overdone, choreographed crap of today. The entire band was fantastic and outstanding in concert. I've always loved their music! Thank you, Tony, for this footage! I saw them on this tour (in August 1986) and in 1987 and 1988, but Don was not as animated as he was here. I kind of wish he had been. :-)
Unless you are apart or been apart of a band on the scale like dokken, perhaps leave it to the professionals to make the decisions, and don't try to gatekeep air instruments, you sound ridiculous.
Was there
Opening for twisted sister!!
Fox theatre !!
Gotta acknowledge how much Jeff Pilson is bringing to the table here, not to mention how hard he’s working.
I was thinking the same thing. Don and George make the headlines. But Jeff is the backbone of the band.
Workhorse for sure! He and Mick pull the wagon Don and George ride.
Dokken was one band back in the day that I regret not seeing, but got to see Lynch Mob in 2013, was able to photograph the show, stood a foot away from George as he played Mr. Scary... a moment a long time coming and one I'll never forget....
Super killer solo on lightning strikes, sounds like a flamenco blues fusion idk how the hell you do it,Mr.Scary😮😮😮
This is the best live sound in the 80s for dokken for me, I like how George has the riff heavy sound here
Thank you Tony. This took me in the way back. I don't even care if people judge me when I say, these are my Beatles.
I guess they are like my Led Zepplin.
Don Dokken always the love of my metal head life ❤❤❤❤
Thank you for your comments and support.
Glad to say I saw them at Monsters, LA Coliseum 1988
my heart's band!!!!
Don was on top of his game here. Shame he drank and smoked his voice away over the years.
🤘🏻🎸🔥
How could they not b the headliner? That was a crime

That and the fact that they were much heavier than both Crue and Leppard which wasn’t as commercially appealing

Yeah. So Smart of them to capture these rock icons in their prime. Absolute gems.

Don's vocals are pretty good here too 😊

Yes my channel has all their shows from this era… just type in Dokken live in my channel search… you should find them…

Dokken was better than 90% of the headliners
Thanks for posting this, was 2nd row for this show standing the whole time with my jaw on the floor. Still a top 5 show of all time, all these years later.
No problem!
Did they open for Dio, Dio and Dokken was around this time. If that was the show, I was there also.
I saw them at the Pontiac Silverdome, monsters of rock, with Scorpions, metallicaand Van- Halen😊
ROCKIN WITH DOKKEN! Along with RATT and Crue my top three Glam era bands…Cinderella honorable mention
Can you imagine the music they could have done if they would have been able to put their differences aside and got along they are amazing and their albums are fantastic
They should've broken through in between Bon Jovi/Guns 'N' Roses(1986-87)! Same with Helix(Remember them?)!
Singer was a wine man...the other 3 were coke infused way too much...equals split!!!

Warren is so underrated, in any conversation about guitarists.
I was 11 years old then didn't go to a concert for another year. But my babysitter had the record and I said those ladies play real good.
LOL! How dare you, sir.
This is the best live mix I've seen from Dokken. You can hear Pilsner. Thanks for the upload.
Who or what is Pilsner?

@markbailey3225 Pilson. The names have gotten fuzzy.

Dokken always was and still is one of my favorite rock bands to come out of the 80s ❤
My first concert ever was Dokken with Kiss. Was there to see Dokken first and foremost. Circa 1984 on the Animalize tour, Grand Forks, ND.
Great footage…. George is amazing here. Jeff was a great back up singer as well.
Jeff has some healthy vibrato too!
Living in Canada, there were not many chances to see my favourite metal band in the 80's. This is golden, thanks for the upload. 🎸🔥
Glad you enjoyed it!
I saw them open fir Aero at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto 1987 I think they sounded like this great!
Opening for Priest, loudest group I've ever seen and I've seen plenty
They knew they were in Detroit Rock City.
Opening for Judas priest I was there it was a good ass concert. Lots of beautiful girls in high heels looking and smelling good. God I miss the eighties
Ironically.. George's son-in-law plays for Judas Priest...
The date should be the 31rst opening for Twisted Sister at the Fox theater.
The Priest show was May 28, 1986 at Cobo. I still have my ticket stub for that show. Both Priest and Dokken killed it that night. This video is from an earlier show.
Very solid live performance. Super tight and dialed in. Probably my favorite 80s band. Great video. Thanks for posting.
In my opinion, even better live than studio
Wow! I think this is better than the live in Philly.
Mick using traditional grip first time ive seen him doing that.

Correct. Same amp. Rock on!!!!!!!
It doesn’t matter what amp George uses…. His tone is in his hands and attack.
If that's the case, slash didn't do justice to his predecessor. His sound is not that remarkable and so his playing.
