    ABOUT VEDANTA
Vedanta is one of the world’s most ancient religious philosophies and one of its broadest. Based on the Vedas, the sacred scriptures of India, Vedanta affirms the oneness of existence, the divinity of the soul, and the harmony of religions.
    ABOUT VEDANTA NY
Vedanta Society of New York is affiliated with the Ramakrishna Order of India. In fact, this is the Order's first Center started by Swami Vivekananda, in 1894. It was a historic event, for the seed of the world-wide Ramakrishna Movement was sown here in New York over a century ago. Swami Sarvapriyananda is the present Resident Minister and Spiritual Leader of the Vedanta Society of New York.

Most respectful Pranams to revered Maharaj-ji. Gratitude to the spiritual friends of VSNY. One small comment (with due apology). Are we, the human beings, are really the product of evolution as proposed by Darwin? The best science of today tells us a completely different story. In this connection, I would draw your kind attention to an interesting book published recently, namely---"human by design : from evolution by chance to transformation by choice" by GREGG BRADEN, Hay House, USA, p. 5-37.

    Lec 35 NOTES:
    121:
    Pratyahara:
Ahara: Dragging things from outside inwards. Eating and breathing in are such examples. This is why our minds are constantly enslaved by sense organs. Prat- means opposite. So we give up dragging things inwards and don’t let our minds be occupied by sense organs.
    Q: How to do?
A: Make the senses one with the mind. If the mind thinks of something, the senses will follow the mind. The mind is the queen bee and the sense organs are like the other bees. If you keep the mind steady, the other senses will be so too.
The flower that you look at it, is not actually outside but rather, just within your mind. You’re only looking at an image and feeling the sensation of touch - all of these processes happens just within your mind.
Yoga says “close your eyes” but Vedanta says “ look at it and see that it is nothing but Brahman”. Adhyasa - giving something value.
It makes perfect sense that we are not satisfied because we already over-estimate the amount of satisfaction from the activities, that is how modern economy and advertisement works - hedonism trap. Nature has certain purposes to be satisfied by us, the biological machines. This is satisfied by pleasure impulses. Ex: Sugar trap and Savannas. The purposes of biology are served but you as a being of consciousness aren’t.
    1. Pratyahara : Take object and see consciousness in that
    2. Dharana: Focus on space. Keep the mind focus and bound on that particular space.
    3. Dhyana: All the time, keeping the mind on Brahman.
    122:
Dharana: Wherever the mind goes, if you can see Brahman there, that is Dharana.
One way: Desha Bandha - Fix the boundaries in space. “Keep the mind on the lotus of the heart.”
Second way: Keep your eyes in a pica of a particular picture, like focusing on a picture of a deity.
In Pratyahara, you see object and see that it is not real, you withdraw. Focusing and staying on it and seeing it as Brahman is Dharana.

All the inputs of the 5 sense organs are in minds, so all are happening in mind.
The light has fallen on the flower.
The reflected light fall on eyes.
In eye an image is created by retina and then transmitted to brain as electric impulses by optic nerve so no more as images.
The actual image of flower is created in mind by Chitta . Chitta is part of mind which is responsible for photography .Chitta manifest the flower in mind.

Namaste swami... I have a doubt.. My body and mind shines because of Brahman which gives existence to it. If everything in this universe exists, then does my dead body also exists after death?

  • @madhukiranattivilli2321

Let's say I'm suffering. I understand from AV that...
    (1) I'm not suffering
    (2) My mind is not suffering
    (3) The mind (or this mind) through which I'm experiencing this universe (i.e.. mind+body+world) is suffering
Thus, it is THEORETICALLY clear to me that I beyond this mind n body... and I'm brahman.
I also THEORETICALLY understand that I'm brahman, and the universe is nothing but brahman appearing as universe due to the projecting+veiling power of maya, and there is nothing out there apart from brahman.
If everything is brahman, and if I'm that brahman, WHY AM I ABLE TO EXPERIENCE THE SUFFERING ONLY THROUGH THIS PARTICULAR MIND❓WHY AM I UNABLE TO EXPERIENCE THE SUFFERING IN MY FRIEND'S MIND❓ (pls note, suffering is used as an example)
    CAN ANYONE PLS ANSWER THIS❓❓❓
IF SOMEONE FROM VEDANTA SOCIETY READS THIS MSG, COULD U PLS FORWARD TIHS QUESTION TO SWAMI SARVAPRIYANANDA OR OTHER AV TEACHERS❓
    -- Madhukiran

      @@ankitraval2893 Thanks for replying!
It was 3 years ago! I was new to AV. Now I got the answer. It's obvious, but I was looking for a theoretical answer with philosophical touch :)
As per design a mind can experience information in the memory attached to it and data coming into it via the 5 senses that are part of the body attached to it.
Yet, all this is Maya as it's part of the universe
