Your channel has gotten me to listen so much more closely to the music in tears of the kingdom (& BotW) just last night I realized the fast travel sound effects and animation are a very clear reference to warping in ocarina of time. Plus the new house building theme in TotK is a remix of links house from OoT EDIT: originally I thought it was the shop theme for the house, but it’s actually the house theme from OoT
Wow, so I wrote both of those down in an apple note I’m compiling for an eventual comprehensive video on TOTK references. But waiting for spoilers to not be a big deal. I’ll check both out! Let me know if you come across any other cool ones! I’ve heard a lot so far!

That end is indeed very botw-like, a theme in a certain key finishing with those lush piano sounds that aren’t in that key. It feels like the music is just dissolving into the air and echoing away like how different birds sing in a forest.
Really love these videos. My wife loves the piano and my two oldest are doing lessons. My son is trying to play Zelda music right now on the piano and I love it.
Oh that’s awesome. Keep him playing stuff HE likes, and he’ll always love piano. One of those obvious secrets to education everyone ignores. And you can help him play by ear or get him sheet music, but walking through playing by ear is helpful. Thanks for watching!
Hi, ZMT, replying from the previous video Never mind the before mentioned Gleeok battle theme; when searching for it, all I could find were a lot of spoiler-heavy thumbnails and no actual ost. Since Rauru has the same name as the Sage of Light from Ocarina of Time, Rauru, I think that certain elements of his theme (and even before, the part at 7:20 in the previous video are callbacks to the theme when we first met him in the sacred realm/chamber of the sages! Here is the Ocarina of Time "Chamber of the sages"/"Sacred Realm" theme. The first 5 notes are almost the exact same in your previous video at the mark 7:20. Dont have any concrete evidence, but certain elements in his theme really gave me OoT vibes, but that might be my bias, or the mondegreen effect (me hearing what i think I am hearing), or whatever
Dang, it’s similar but it’s not quite there. I am very familiar with the sages theme, it’s using the whole tone scale which is commonly used for like dream sequences or changes in time or something. The notes (idk the actual key ) in C maj are: C Bb E C D E. C Bb E D C F# repeat. Then it changes a bit. Adds a G# completing the whole tone scale. But I listened really closely and couldn’t catch those intervals of the first 5 notes. It’s a little similar with that piano sweep upward and adding a raised sixth, but I can’t call it a reference. I’ll keep looking though!

I hear the first two notes of hyrule castle’s theme in Rauru’s theme Kinda spoiler but rly early game spoiler: This makes perfect musical sense because Rauru is the FIRST King of Hyrule and his theme consists of the FIRST notes of the hyrulean theme!!!

I finished the sky island in three hours the night i got it and I had my headphones on and I did hear a bit of the King of Hyrule/Hyrule Castle theme. Which is a bit of a nod and foreshadow to something in the game
Haven't finished your video yet so you might have already touched on it, but I believe I heard a few notes from the Temple of Time when rauru and Link are about to part ways. Or maybe it was the song of healing.

Hi hi! Really enjoying your videos and deep-dives! I wanted to ask you if you could scope out something I’m hearing. Rauru’s theme and King Rhoam’s theme seem to share the same beginning interval in the first few notes (sounds like a 4th) though King Rhoam’s is decidedly more ominous/auspicious. I thought that would be interesting since Rhoam was the last King of Hyrule to date and Rauru’s the first. The rest of it seems to diverge but they both also have some of Zelda’s motif sprinkled in there, which makes sense since she’s a descendent of both of theirs. Would love to hear what you think.
Hi JenJo, I just went back and listened for that, and couldn’t quite hear the notes from King Hyrule. Wow, so first off thanks for the links! So hard to hear what people are talking about without specific. So YES it starts with a fourth. BUT so does the original Hero theme from the Overworld of Z1 which is what I believe is being sorta referenced. We get 1 bVII bVI in a very Zelda way (I have a whole video planned on that (The Zelda chords)… And THEN we get a major IV chord. Those are the 4 chords we get from the TORK Main theme. So very Zelda like it missing that b2 that we get from Phrygian mode and King Hyrule. But still a great reference! I’ll add that into my “Why Zelda Music Sounds Courageous” video (months in the works, still finalizing script and compiling examples). Thanks again!
Yeah it’s sharp 11 but I always battle being educationally “correct” with helping people understand. I started using b6 b7 and it confused some people so I went back to bVI bVII… but I’m trying t make music theory less… we’ll “music theory-y” 🤣 And I’m the scale I always say sharp 4, but the chord for sure it’s correct to say sharp 11.

Im still wondering why Rauru used to be an old man, who turned into an Owl but suddenly, his body became a Zonai Goat, who sounds younger. Not liking them changing lore and the inconsistency of things like that.

They've just completely changed it, to a point where nothing that other games have said actually makes sense. I'm trying to avoid spoilers until I can play the game (later because exams) and I accidentally saw the thumbnail and title to this video and I am so annoyed that I now know who the character is before I play the game. I absolutely love your content, but I think being careful with thumbnails and titles for a bit until spoilers are less of a concern may be a good idea. The games only been out a few days, so even people who have started playing may not have come across this character yet and putting this pretty sizeable spoiler right in a thumbnail for everyone to see only a few days after launch seems a little bit inconsiderate to me. That being said, I still love your content and can't wait to continue watching once I am not scared of spoilers anymore. Just a shame that this spoiler had to come from this channel.

So I’m only spoiling for those who have not played AT ALL. Which is you. And I’m really sorry! Having said that, it’s tricky. There’s no “green light” for publishing content with spoilers, so it’s difficult to know when I can start covering it. I’m Zelda Music Theory, ya know? There’s a ton of stuff on UA-cam that is full of spoilers. So I kind of don’t know when it’s too soon or okay. For example I could wait 2-3 weeks and many people would still be unhappy if I spoiled something. In fact I’m still only about 8 hours in, so plenty of stuff could still be spoiled for me. Maybe I could have been more careful with the thumbnail and title. But this is all from my first 2 hours playing, so if you don’t want to see gameplay from that, yeah don’t watch those. I have one last video dropping Friday that has footage from an early shrine, so hold off. Then my next 2-3 videos are not TOTK related at all. I’ll try to be careful! In a month or so I plan to release a video covering much more, but I’ll try to avoid spoilers entirely in the title and thumbnail. Something like “Every Zelda TOTK Easter Egg” or similar. Who’s to say Rauru wasn’t always a Zonai? He already demonstrated his ability to appear as an owl. His hylian form could simply be a facade as well.

I have avoided all totk videos cuz i dont wanna be spoiled until i get the game, i have to get it on my birthday which is in 5 months 🥲
