"I'd like to see Bruges again before I die"
And he does
When were you here? When I was 7 😂
I think this might be my favourite scene of any film ever. ‘He wasn’t a bad kid was he’, chills every time. I love that the music doesn’t start for a while too, so you’re just there with Ken listening to the voice telling you to kill your friend, let’s the shock sink in even more powerfully
The way he suddenly switches to talking about him in past tense, as though he’s already dead. Chilling.
The way the tone shifts from hilarious to sinister and dark is masterful
Ken knew that Harry would order him to kill Ray, that's why he tried to butter him up with that BS story about Ray loving Bruges, he was hoping to change Harry's mind
Great theory, never thought of that!
That silence and then "what" is so scary haha
Yet hilarious
It was perfect mate
the script for this movie is incredible.
They should make it into a movie.
I always felt like it was improvised
"Oh, yeah...give me a call when he is dead." This movie is full with memorable scenes and dialogues.
'You're not an inanimate object.'
The way this scene swerves from comedy to tragedy is simply amazing. The dramatic irony is so powerful
"I know I'm awake but I feel like I'm in a dream"
Absolutely devastating
When he refers to him in the past tense...
I love the juxtaposition of how soft-spoken Harry is compared to his brutality
*softly and curiously* "Is the swans still there?"
"Yeah."
*immediately resumes his unhinged rant*
The quivering manic tension in Harry's voice when he's aghast at hearing that Ray might not love Bruges, along with Ken's apprehension from realizing it's one of Harry's triggers, it's just perfect.
1:54 cool little Easter egg: the TV in the background is playing a famous 6-minute long take from a 1953 film called "Touch of Evil," while this phone call scene in is also being shown in its own long take!
*1958
Gleeson's face at 1:43 kills me hahahahah
"...where does it stop?"
Ken gets quiet and we hear the clock ticking.
Harry had tight principles like Melville's Jef Costello. Killing kids was off limits for a vicious gangster such as Harry.
The TV was on. It was showing 'Touch Of Evil', during the long take. This scene is also was a long take, an homage to the 1958 film. But you can't see it, since Movieclips didn't show the full thing.
Homage is too strong, more like a nod of the head.
@@JC-wg5xn Sounds like how the director talks about his influences
@@vb8428 it's a quote from the movie
@@JC-wg5xn I know, am a big fan of Poesy. I meant it's something the director would say because he doesn't like the Tarantino comparisons who in turn doesn't like the Godard comparisons.
@@vb8428 k
Gotta stick to your principles
I have always found the rising score combined with the characters realization of the situation a masterpiece of filmmaking.
This is my favourite scene in the movie. One continuous shot about a suspenseful conversation. The writing and acting in this scene - incredible.
This is a really good movie, more people need to see it.👍
0:57 "he just *****n loved it then" Is the funniest delivery I've ever seen in cinema. Was shocked there's no clip of it on YT, and seemingly no love for it in these comments.
I love how the line about the freezing fog comes back later when Ken stares off the tower and sees the freezing fog illuminated by the lights. No doubt that's how he was feeling, bleeding in the tower - "I know I'm awake, but I feel like I'm in a dream."
Also Harry's character and demeanour is just genius writing. A friendly family man with "morals" and some sense of remorse who also happens to be a murderous criminal. One of my favourite films.
Great movie. Acting of a wonderful level.
All in one shot. Phenomenal acting.
Ray spends the early part of the film wondering why Harry sent him to Bruges of all places, and the reveal Harry sent him there as almost a consolation is both disturbing and... kind of sweet. It's disquieting to realise.
Harry's clearly a psycho, but he's a psycho with honour and dignity.
Even someone who's crossed his uncrossable line, killing a child, he gives him a pleasant end if he can.
Because he was a good kid, wasn't he? But he still has to die.
Such a great movie
Perfect scene.
When Harry is first talking about the canals and the bridges sounds like he's on the verge of tears
Are you being "thick" lolol
A medieval bowling alley
classic in bruges
Awesome awesome movie 👏
3:00 Get to see Bruges
Would love to see this scene with Don Logan in it
Imagine a prequel where he's working with Harry and Ken.
Okay that just feels like a film that needs to be made tbh.
2:25 giant hand
"don't get shirty ken"
*surly
@Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus Fair enough, new word learned.
