Just want to say thank you. Tried for an hour doing this the regular way and the light would wiggle but would NOT come out. Used your shoe lace method, and at first the light still wouldn’t budge, but once I changed the angle and pulled more towards the middle-back of the car, the tail light popped out so quick I almost fell lol. Thank you so much.
I've never commented on a UA-cam video before but holy crap, this one saved me an unimaginable amount of money (that I couldn't afford otherwise). After hours and hours of fighting with mine and watching (in frustration) other videos of how simple it should be, I finally stumbled upon yours. 5 minutes and I was done. I honestly couldn't be more grateful, thank you!!!!!!!!!
You know, this is never what I'd have expected from this channel, but this is about as ingenious as a solution to this issue as I've seen. I've had issues with this with previous cars, not just the model in question, and next time I need a tail light out, I'll absolutely use this method. Those clips they clip onto when slid back into place hold on just a bit too tight every time.
First comment I have ever written and it goes to you. Not only did the knotted string work (and this was after hours of trying other ways from myself, friends, and finally other videos) but when I went to replace the bulb it was intact. Either a loose bulb or dust was the source of my problem. Here’s my point - I shudder to think of how much time, frustration, and money I would have spent on labor and a ‘new bulb’ had you not made this video. Thank you for saving me all that and I wish the best for you and your channel.
I've had the bulb stop working on this car three times since I've owned it, always that housing. At least one time, all I had to do was reseat the harness and bulb and it was working again. Not sure what the issue is but I suspect these cars have a defect that causes high resistance at the bulb which leads to an overcurrent situation and then the bulb to overheats. Not sure what the solution is either but perhaps retrofitting LEDs here might help.
Thank you so much for this video! I tried for an hour to get the stupid light out. All the other videos make it look so easy. Of course they cut the video to make it look like they didn’t struggle!!! Uggggggg thank goodness for you!!!!
Jesus thank you. I’m gonna try it. I had a mechanic sweating trying to take this thing off. He was about to start breaking off the plastic pieces and I had to tell him to stop
Never seen any of your videos and was just struggling with taking this out for DAYS!!! Watched plenty of other videos on how to do this but nothing worked cause no way to get grip, this worked amazingly!!! Can’t thank you enough, was about to take it to a mechanic to change a damn bulb 🙏
Dude you’re such a life saver! I was going at this for about an hour and was about to throw in the towel. Decided to look for a few vids on the UA-cams. This one was the one that actually helped me pull this puppy out!
This method is easy peasy to get that light assembly off to replace the brake light bulb. Kudos to the gentleman who figured out how to get that dammed tail light assembly off to replace the bulb. I need to bring my 2018 Elantra in for a state inspection. The sensors did not show the bulb was defective. it failed the inspection due to that bulb. twice I had tried to get that light assembly off. I found this video,, one easy tug to set the shoelaces, a second tug to make sure everything was set. A third pull, not a hard crazy pull, just a pull and the tail light assembly came right out! easy peasy.
Oh my God, you are a lifesaver put that shoe string in there and I pulled and it came off.... 2023 thank you thank you thank you. I feel like crying. ❤️❤️❤️
Best way to get this light assembly off without damaging anything is to remove the bolts and the rubber plug then take a long socket extension and place it in the hole against a flat spot make sure it's not against the light caps or anything you will damage. The hard clip holding it is under the narrow piece of the light if you wiggle the light lose and squirt a bunch of lubricant behind where the clip is it should release easier from the clip. Then cover the light in duct tape leaving some hanging at the back to grab and pull it backwards. When all this is done get 2 people one to hammer the extension from behind and the other to tug on the duct tape. It will take some force but it will pop out. I struggled with this thing for months until this worked for me. Good luck it's a huge pain really poor design.
If I had a second pair of hands, this might work. One of my earlier attempts involved using that hole the rubber grommet seats into and trying to shove a wedge in there. The sheet metal started bending though so probably don't do that. Good call on the lube though, I didn't even think about that to loosen those clips.
