Very impressive. Restoration newbies maybe, but really appreciate the honesty about what you know and the limitations you are working with. It's a marathon, not a sprint. Good luck in the next vid figuring out how it all goes back together!
Awesome content guys. Love to see more videos coming. My wife and I are converting our 2012 w463 to an exped vehicle as well. Its to much fun to see like minded tinkeres :) Grüß aus Bayern
Jungs, das ist soo geil. Erstmal, euer Englisch ist fast akzentfrei. Super.
Nov.
Thank you guys so much for your videos. Just bought a 230 ge 3 days ago with the same engine you have. Needs restoration also and it is inspiring to watch your videos.
Very nice! That’s a lot of work! You really get the impression of the commitment needed to finish such a project. I love these older Gs, sadly I had to give up mine because of rust from the harsh winter conditions in Norway. Wish you all the luck with this!
Thank you Sir! Ours has seen its fair share of harsh Norwegian winters itself but it looks like we may just be able to pull it back from the brink of death.
Great Video! I am so glad I did NOT trying doing on my 1989 W460 SWB 230 auto what you are doing. I do not have the skills! Also LWB is worth saving whilst SWB is not. I sold on the 1989 SWB and 7 years later bought a LWB with less rust.
Hello from France ! Hope you are fine guys, i would like to know if the new metal part (already fold) that you are using to weld on irrecuperable part.. Where did you get it ? Is it affordable ? I have a kind of similar project with a G Wagon after my studies ! Thank you for your videos and have a lot of fun ! What is your formation in welding ? Do you know if i could learn by myself to do similar job ?
Ugo french Hi Ugo! Thank you for reaching out. Did you already by one or just planning to? The prefab body panels are quite affordable. The best ones we got were just off eBay and cost around 30€. As for the welding. It’s one of those things that take a couple of hours to learn and a lifetime to master. I’d say just go for it and you’re gonna figure it out.
@@jonasfreitag Hi Jonas! Great thanks for your return :) I will try it ! Can't wait for the next episode !! I hope you will share yours adventures with the 4wd ! Please show us your trips ! ;) Ciao
Great job ladies and gentlemen I’ve done 3 of them and I’ve spent my last 50 years working on car s and they are not easy if you ever come to England I’d like to see you. Have you thought of a name for the G wagon got to call her after your grandma
I think I was after this G Wagon but was told that it was sold. So I bought another one in Bosnia its 300GD I have taken it apart but havnt started restoring it yet. Was it bought from a dealer that sell vintage vehicles ?
@@jonasfreitag Hello Jonas, Check some of my videos. I restore vintage vehicles but am not much into making videos of the restorations so don't have anything too detailed. I have broken two g wagons so have a lot of parts and I am also looking for new parts suppliers like suspension and other bits and bobs that I need to replace on my g wagon project. So let me know if I can help and let me know if you know any good suppliers of new parts. I have just taken mine apart. Haven't started the restoration yet. The body doesn't need much work and the chassis and mechanics are also in good shape. The vehicle is in Bosnia but I am in UK so have to make time to go there hence the slow progress. Feel free to WhatsApp me on +447400084793. Thats the vehicle: ua-cam.com/video/xO9JRaW25xc/v-deo.html
The rocker panels and front fenders (not in video yet) we got cheap off of ebay and we're really happy with the fit. The door panels and rear quarterpanels we got from a German specialist shop but the fitment sucks so wouldn't recommend those.
Hello from Romania, good job with the welds. Where did you get the body panels ? I need a few pieces too. thank you. If your roads will pass through Romania, Maramures please let me know.
Hi Marius! Thanks for taking the time to comment. The best panels we bought were the cheap ones off of ebay. So its still a bit of a secret by not many people will probably read this. We're planning on taking the G class to the Balkans for its maiden voyage next summer. Rodnei Mountains National Park is on our list so not far from Maramures at all. Would be great if we could meet up and you could tell us a few things about local do's and dont's. What do you think?
Thank you for commenting. You are right, we haven't gotten into that yet, but we won't forget. Will talk about that when we get to the cargo storage system for the trunk. Will probably be another couple of months, though. Hope you're staying tuned!
Great videos. Looking forward to seeing it all complete as I'm also trying to restore my 1979 280GE (W460). I have some pictures on my instagram account @1979gwagon
