I love the foreshadowing in the line;
"You are a Snake, which was not created by Nature. You and the boss [Liquid Snake]... You are from another world..."
Pointing out the fact they are special clones created to replicate the Big Boss and are not made from the natural world.
How is it foreshadowing.... it was known...
@bojack99 Solid Snake didn't know at the time. He was told by Liquid later, on top of REX during the last fight sequence with him
I mean in the PS1 days it was hard to tell they were bros, but on the GC remake, it's quite on the nose.
I've never played Twin Snakes, but in the briefing of MGS1 Snake is shocked by how similar Liquid looks to him. he says "I've got a twin?" confused & Campbell just says "seems so."
it ends with him cutting his hair to look less like Liquid (supposedly also dyeing it, but that was retconned).
the only other note to add is that Campbell addresses Liquid as the man with the same codename as Snake & that his real name is highly classified.
Raven's line does add to the foreshadowing of the nature of their brotherhood.

Note to self: do not accept the ear pull challenge when your opponent is a giant shirtless man armed with a mini gun with birds all over him in the middle of Alaska. Especially if he has a bird tattoo on his face that can come off and fly around.
Except if you're the genetically enhanced descendent of a legendary soldier capable of defeating a nuclear equipped walking tank and taking out two large mercenary groups single handedly as well as backflipping onto a rocket fired by a Hind, jumping off of it and firing a missile mid-air into said Hind.

@@mrreyes5004 Eva is not his biological mother though. He's talking about a Japanese woman. Her egg cells were used, Eva didn't give birth to him. Eva is also not really Chinese, she's as white as they come.

Even Vulcan Raven’s death is sad just like Sniper Wolf’s death
Accept he could still do stuff and move around and not just lay on the ground despite being shot by so many stinger rockets.

But he doesn't Snake doesn't figure out what's wrong until it's too late. What Raven meant by his hint was that the fake-DARPA Chief, Decoy Octopus, was lying, and to disregard anything he said. Meaning that there was no ability to launch, and he was playing right into their hands by doing so.

Can we just take a moment to admire how the first cutscene is a pefect introduction to Raven's thoughs and cultural background, a badass action movie scene and a tutorial without feeling cheesy? Kojima is the best of the best for a reason.

This was legendary.. experiencing this as a kid. Playing as Snake HOPING I’ve got what it takes to take Raven down.. that fear you feel once he’s destroyed most of the arena.. that feeling you get beating him.

Vulcan Raven sounds like Sabretooth in X-Men Legends 2 and Leatherhead in TMNT 2012 That is Peter Lurie the son of the late Allan Lurie who also voice President ArmsTech Kenneth Baker. Vulcan Raven is my favorite villain in Metal Gear Solid.

EVA birthed him, it wasn’t her egg used to clone him though I think it was para-medics assistant who was also eastern, Japanese If I remember right
@@nathantownsend317 That's true. EVA confirms it in MGS4 when she explains it to Snake. We don't know the name of Snake's mother but we do get to see a photo of her and EVA says she was Japanese. At this point Vulcan Raven's voice is heard saying the "blood from the east" line, confirming it.
His biological mother (or egg donor) was an assistant of Dr. Clark (Para-medic from MGS3), who was a "healthy japanese woman". EVA then surrogated the fertilized eggs.
EVA was born in Idaho
When the dialogs last longer than the actual fight... poor Snake, not even a real challenge for him XD
I love seeing all the differences between the PS1 and GameCube versions.
The original scene had way more atmosphere
I disagree. This one had better angles and the dialogue lines were better spaced between one another. Not to mention the shootout is incredible (one of the few moments where Silicon Knights did good bullet time)

On the whole this game was a great remake. But I wish they'd just re-used the original VO. There isn't as much effort/heart/feeling put into this version. If its ever done again in 4K I'd like them to use the original voice tracks, music and every other audio effect
Kris Zimmerman has said that they can't reuse the MGS1 audio because it has so much outside noise, plus Kojima wanted the voices redone to match the japanese script. There's a video explaining why Kojima hates the original MGS1 voice acting.

I disagree. The voice acting in this scene is great and some of the actors from the original (Naomi, Mei Ling) were so annoying. They changed the delivery to fit with the new camera angles and shots. Also, the original VA sounds rushed at times to fit within a CD
Gonna be that guy and point out that Raven had the ammo drum for the Vulcan cannon but what video game developers and Hollywood forget is that Gatling type guns need an energy source. The m134 mini gun has two 12 volt car batteries connected to an electric motor to spin the barrels.

It cracks me up every time. Especially how Raven answers honestly since he's so intense.
Another easy way to defeat Vulcan Raven is this, if you're not too good with the missiles or sniper rifle. Follow him around with some grenades and chuck them nearby until his health is about halfway depleted and he starts to run faster. Then lay as many claymores as you have, quite close to each other, in one section of the warehouse. Sooner or later he'll wander through them all and do himself in. Once I figured out this tactic I finished him in a couple of minutes.

The entire remake was so easy even the sniper wolf battle, ps1 version puts more challenges on every bosses

After reading the 'last days of foxhound' fancomic it's really hard to piece the Raven's Voice into that character.

This fight terrified me on the hardest setting my guy and you just walk up to a chain gun like it's no problem.

@@thebatman6781 Solid Snake is a genetically modified super solider clone of Big Boss who is peak human like Batman. Raven is a highly trained super natural solider, and they're both injected with nanomachines which enhances people's abilities strength, speed, agility.

This is/was the easiest boss fight ever. On the higher difficulty levels you don't have radar.
The easiest way to win his level is to use claymore mines. I just ran around the outer edge of the warehouse and set claymores facing inward down each aisle. As Vulcan Raven came out looking for me he stepped on claymores and was dead very quickly. You can use thermal imaging to see the where the mines were that Vulcan Raven already stepped on and replace those as he walks around to his death.
Yep, I used claymores as well. I found this boss the funniest to fight as well. You'd hear him thumping along the corridors getting ever faster and then this huge roar of rage when he, again, stepped on a claymore, very funny.
So Vulcan Raven was still watching Snake interact with all those Posters on Part 2 and watching Old Snake check out Naomi on Part 4? 🤣

This boss was absolutely pathetic here! All I did was hide and cover and kept peeking out and shooting Raven! Even while he was shooting me, I never got hit once!

IMO MGS1 is the best in the series because of stuff like this. Every boss was either important for the plot or meaningful for character development. In MGS3 some of the Cobras are just like "Yo, I'm a badass mofo, let's fight".
Needless to say, I hate MGS4.
