Was going through some boxes after my divorce and found my truck ! Same one ! 17 years later ! Currently doing a restoration on it . Can't wait to play again ! Great video !
Thanks for the video, I got a Chevy version of this many years ago and you helped me figure out what it was because it didn't come with any info, no box, remote, battery, and I don't even know if the internals are all factory, but now I know that they made many forms of it and it was lobed by lots, thanks again for the help, nice video quality btw
Hey bud, these really are fun trucks. So glad you found my rc channel as I’m uploading new rc videos. There’s an Chevrolet S10 coming too. Exciting time for rc. Please be sure to like share comment and subscribe.
Still have the one i bought in 1997. It was my first real RC-Car and i had to save up for it a long to time (was 13 at the time). Love it and kept it the way i played with it (mechanicaly). Bought another one around 2007 and modified that with all sort of parts ^^
I'm in the process of restoring my S10 right now. Bought it when I was a teenager back in the late 90s/early 2000s. Thank God for Team Bluegroove making reproduction bodies. I still have my original body but I had a buddy paint it and it's not exactly box art.. Haha..
Howdy, so it’s never too late to restore a rc car problem is parts availability. Sometimes adding a rc to your ebay notification helps and Tamiya websites too among the forums. I’ve gotten lucky this way with new old stock. If reproduction parts don’t bother you well TBG or Team Blue Groove can help with bodies.
@@LukesVintageRC Tamiyas are especially bad about parts availability. Not because the parts are unavailable but because the prices skyrocket in value the moment the kit is discontinued. Tamiya collectors are ravenous.
Nice truck it cleaned up nice , I like the sport tuned motors in my Tamiya’s too . They give that extra speed and power without overpowering them . Cool video Luke .
Had this same one when it came out. Threw a modified motor in it, and ran it with plastic bushings until one of the metal gear shafts melted the rear box 😂 But hey, I was like 15.
I remember these! So cool looking! I _love_ the TA02 chassis; they're pretty much bullet proof. The only thing I don't like is the motor mount because it's so easy to over-tighten the motor and break them.
New Subscriber here, I just built a tribute Tamiya Chevy S-10 on the TA-02 chassis. Many years ago, I had both the S-10 & Ford F150 but sadly sold them off, I really wish Tamiya would do a RERE of these trucks (I know, they did the ford), The Hummer was also re-released on a different chassis. The Toyota was only available for a few years then was never seen again. Awesome stuff and great work, looking forward to your S-10 video!!!!!
Howdy so I have not restored the 2011 version yet but I know the first version is a non issue of esc. It came with mechanical speed control and was also labeled without BAJA in the description. I’m sure there’s more.
Maybe one day we can see a video comparing the two. i just restored the chevy s10 ta02. And i found my holy grail. It should be here this week The tamiya desert fielder ta02t 😀 @@LukesVintageRC
What radio system did you go with an upgraded 2.4? This makes me want to get out my old S-10 out but I want to upgrade the electronics to run 2.4 transmitter, 3S lipo and brushless motor and ESC. Anyone have any success with this upgrade? Direct fit brushless 3S motor with same shaft diameter is the only thing I am not sure of. Do you know if there is an aluminum motor mount available? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi, I typically use my Chinese 2.4 ghz turbo radio. I did a review on this radio so check it out. Brushless is ok on 2s setup for a vintage version but 3s nah. Old trucks like this tend to have brittle plastics. A new one probably be fine but vintage like this no way. Need crazy speed do what I did get a Traxxas Bandit vxl That is crazy fast and takes abuse ok plus getting parts that break are readily available. There are other brands too ARRMA that have speedy rc. My advice New rc is key for 3S and up. Parts for old rc are rare and expensive. Good luck. 👍
@@LukesVintageRC Thank you for your feedback made me think about this more so I don't want to ruin the vintage but want to get it running again with up to date electronics and lipo battery. Gonna upgrade to the 53068 motor and 2S
Hi Luke hope you're well. Nice looking truck, seemed to have a good turn of speed, I personally think that's about its limit for driving, unless you want to do straight line speed runs which I think are not fun and are what these trucks are not about. Nice work Be lucky..
Nice, I’ve always liked the look of those. If your mate wants to, he can get a Alloy motor mount. To suit a TA02 same as DF01. 797 Subscribers 👍🏻So close to that 1000 Subs 😎
This kit was cool cause it came with the plastic oil filled shocks, and it came with a ball diff. Just one ball diff, so i threw it in the front. Not sure why i chose the front, like i said in my other comment, i was 15 😂
' also i put four HPI rims / wheels on the F-350 tamiya truck... 4 traxxas rims / wheels on the tamiya frog car... tamiya frog with traxxas parts... already in my channel video

Man I always loved the scale BFG mud terrains on these. That was something that no other RC had in the 1990s
Amazing truck thanks 😊
This style of RC Truck and the Stadium Blitzer are my favorite. Nimble and small.
Thank you sir.🙏

I have an original. Got it in 95 when I was 18. It traction rolls like crazy. They sold a wide kit back then and it made all the difference.
I think it’s a really cool truck with a great look. Thanks 😊
Oooh, love the Ta02s. They have a big room in my heart. Can take a beat too.
Hi Sir, absolutely luv these! I’ll be doing the Chevy racing truck version soon stay tuned. Thanks you

Hi i like them too! Have both the Chevy S10 and Ford F-150 new in box and two for runners.
Thanks for share.
I have one of these New in a box. They look great - so retro.
Agree to the max ✌️
@@LukesVintageRC Finding the Chevy & Toyota isn't that EZ ether I tried. I'd like to have the 3 for ''Shelf Queens''.

The trick with plastic parts is to tightsen the screws just snug wit the surface. Then it hold up a longe time. No need to like Torque them.
Nice. I have one of these right next to me that could do with a restore. Haven't run it for 20 years.
Awesome truck, truly deserves a resto. Check out more of my fun rc videos and subscribe. Thanks 😊

Nice Video. Do you know what the differences are between the original and the re-release? Was it just blue plastic on the rere?

I believe there's a 16 turn in it and I took out the shaft and front gears to make it rwd.
Nice 😎👌🏻 Been trying to Chase one of these for awhile now.
RC Action Australia thank you sir 🙏
Can I ask? How was the body painted on these? Was the red stripe a decal, and just painted white and blue?
Hi sir, this one was painted from the inside as body is clear poly like lexan. The red is decal but as you see I touched it up some on outside.
I just got one in the box a guy started it in 1995 couldn't finish it so it sat in his closet till now lol
What a cool rc. Thanks friend 😊
