- Full tour of a tiny luxury treehouse! The Birdhouse Retreat is a 160 square foot treehouse that was self-built by a custom home builder in Chilliwack BC. It's perched 12 feet off the ground and it's perfectly nestled in a grove of cedars. The interior design has beautiful attention to detail and there isn't a single wasted inch of space in here.

The treehouse has a functional entrance with hooks and shelves for storing coats and shoes, the full kitchen has loads of storage for food and dishes, the book nook has a cozy love seat that folds out into a guest bed, and the loft bedroom has a Queen-sized bed with two big skylights for stargazing. The water closet has a toilet, and the outdoor shower is below the house and it's fully functional year-round.
Access to the house is via a cable suspension bridge that bounces as you walk along it to accentuate the feeling of being elevated off the ground.
This is a very cool space and we're so glad that we got to meet up with Ben to see how he managed to design and build such a unique and functional tiny space.

Interesting design, I especially like how you changed the closet on the fly! :D And the exterior is just about perfect. I have never seen such a well-finished Tiny House, period, and having this in your portfolio ought to be a major plus!
However....
I think if you went 10% larger you would have a much more enjoyable final product. The hot-plate in a drawer is one thing, but an exterior shower? In Washington State??
Not sure how the girls will feel about that.
Also concerned about the AC unit right there on the bed, and the lack of blinders for the skylights. As for the footbridge.... heh, who amI kidding, I would have done exactly the same thing! :D
But the thing that got me was you mentioning wasted space while you appear to be standing IN wasted space! If I ever go this way, I would install a front door that opens OUTwards.
What s dream space. I always lived in a tree in my childhood dreams. This is the real catcher.
Unique and beautiful inside and out!
Wonder if he has plans to add a bathroom sink. I see two types that may work: one is in video "Tip Up Folding Boat Sink" As you fold it into the wall, it drains through a drain tucked inside the wall.
The second is the 'over the tank' type, so your wash water becomes the flushing water. Better than flushing with drinking water!
Personally, I would also want to see EM exits from the loft and downstairs area

This is a very cool tiny house or cabin but it's not a treehouse! Just my opinion!
WoW. The exterior looks so tiny and the inside of this house is huge! That's what I call magic! I love every tiny detail in and out. What an amazing job!

This guy's attention to detail is nothing short of amazing. I'd love for him to build one of these for me. It's tough to imagine someone living there full-time due to the lack of living space. Now a 300 square foot treehouse design would be perfect though.
We, he almost certainly has a workshop space for, you know, work. Also, I haven't finished the videio yet (bad me!) but his consistent use of "you" just screams "VRBO".

Wow, look at the talent this young man has! Very impressive! Only 1 item I would change or clarify if this were my house. I have no building experience so not sure how feasible it would be. So, I can't tell which windows open and didn't see any screens over them. I would def need those upstairs windows to open and the house to have cross breeze ability. Just me, I need fresh air and love to listen to the natural sounds.
I normally have a critical eye for projects like this, catching things that displease me. But this one here is absolutely perfect. Perhaps the AC so close to the bed is the only thing I would rethink, but nothing else. Amazing!

Beautiful. I would prefer the shower inside too ,but it is a very nice tree house. The loft with the windows above is awesome I bet it looks beautiful at night.
I love the exterior look of a bird house. The green cabinets in the kitchen are my favorite pieces of the interior.

Really gorgeous work! One of the most beautiful tree houses ever. The only thing we might've changed would be the positioning of the a/c unit, to avoid direct contact with the cold/hot air. Other than that, it's perfect!

Absolutely beautiful and well planned out!! I love the suspension bridge and exposed rafters!!! One thing I would personally change is the toilet..., I've seen a toilet with mini sink on the back tank, that way you can wash your hands and not need to use the kitchen sink.

One thing I wish you'd include on the video production end is what the builders or owners had to go through to get their Building Permits, & ultimately their Certificate of Occupancy.. I'd appreciate that on every alternative build you showcase. It would be different for different types of building, and also in different States, Counties, & Towns, so it wouldn't be the same every time & feel repetitive.. To include this info would also encourage people by taking the mystery out of these processes, & showing them it's not as difficult as they may have imagined it to be..
That's my elevator pitch. Hope you at least consider it... 😎👍

That's not true. You need permits to build. Even extensions on your own home and land. It's no free for all for building or land
