Introduced in 1936 the Winchester model 70 has become an icon in the hunting and shooting world Learn how to break down this classic bolt action rifle.
Don't know if you read comments or not, but I am the guy that called you on Friday, June 5th, with a question about my pre64 bolt reassembly. The good news is I got it working again. At 74 I just did not have the strength to compress the spring far enough, so my brother in law helped me. All good. Thank you Art for taking the time to talk to me.
I don't ever write reviews, but these guys are the best. They made one of my rifles look brand new. I will recommend them to everyone and I would not send a gun to anyone else.
It looks brand new to begin with, it wants to go out into the bush and do what it was made to do. Such a shame that we need everything to look so pretty and become less functional as a result, but then again what do I know. Good video, thanks for sharing!!
The Featherweight model always had the aluminum floorplate and trigger guard. Good to see how it's done but also won't be doing that to my Model 70's as they are new and I don't trust myself to put them back together. Pulling the bolt apart without disassembly is as far as I will go. Good video.
Greatest working man's rifle ever! This working man is glad he grabbed some when they were a working class rifle. Now, they are the wealthy collectors domain.
I own a pre64 mod.70 produced in 1957. Your info and presentation is great. however i'd need to reset the safety lever and would like to see a tutorial on that part of your site. Thank you.
My 1939 pre-war is going to be coming to you pretty soon for a restoration I'll be calling you on the phone and making arrangements sometime the next month or two!
I wish I could drop my Model 70 1941 off with Art. I am learning as I go, but the safety was locked in fire position. I took apart the bolt and cleaned up the firing pin and spring. Was able to disassemble the bolt based on this vid. The bolt handle and extractor blueing is gone, (polished?). They are not worn, it looks like it was removed. Anyhow, I got the safety in the middle position by moving using a piece of wood and pulling down and then engaging the safety. Testing tomorrow, (rifle not with me) to see if the safety was frozen with gunk/burr or if the sear is worn.....fingers crossed. Would love to drop the rifle off to Art and just pay the master to fix.
Not taking anything away from Art’s Gun Shop; but, I suggest you take your M70 to a gunsmith to diagnose that safety lever issue. You should have a qualified progressional full time licensed FFL gunsmith in your area.
Art, can you show how to unjam a Browning auto( Belgium) bolt. Friend took off his saddle scope mount and of course got the bolt jammed in reward position. Thank you Art.
I have a 1949 308 Winchester model 70 super..i don't know anything about it so i sold it the other day for $500. does anyone know if i made a good deal..
Every old gun is unique so it’s hard to say for any particular gun but they are very strong actions. I have a 53 Featherweight in .308 and I don’t hesitate to put any factory load through it.

I have my great grandfathers model 70 that probably hasnt been apart since it was built in 1955. This is really going to help. Thank you

yeah it was a simple disassembly, but I really learned a lot.

@@thatsthewayitgoes9 I sent it to a guy that used to be in my area but relocated a few hours away. He fixed it right up.
Thank you.
