I'd bet money that Addison doesn't get anywhere near the backlash because her target audience isn't made up of communities of gamers/streamers...it's the influencer-sphere and I'd imagine primarily young kids.
Like if Rae's average viewer age is like 18-22...Addison's is probably 12-14.

I don't think she saw it at all nor do I think she cares. I feel like this won't end up becomming a controversy because the online community already went through something similar with valkyrae, but being a streamer and being a tiktoker is different. Also addison rae is becoming more of a mainstream celebrity lately, so all she has to do is ignore the outside noise (something valkyrae didn't do).

This is SO common in the makeup industry. I used to work for Ulta, and gimmicks like this are exactly what sells new product. Otherwise, everyone would just buy what works best. I saw Millie bobbie brown's brand pushing the anti-blue light at Ulta for the first time a couple months ago lmao. Thank god people have exposed this bs.

They must have payed her like A LOT, because she makes a few million a years from sponsoring deals easily, so to take such an obvious scam deal it must have been really worth it. Also, hard to blame TikTok here, no matter their policy, because she already makes a shit ton of money and would never make even a fraction of that on TikTok views alone, even if it worked exactly like UA-cam does it for normal videos.
although you’re 100% right on she probably got paid aton and even if she was paid accordingly on tiktok it wouldn’t equate to much, tiktok’s system is fucked cause essentially if the top creators keep getting more views then they alone will run a monopoly where the minimum viewership would have to be so high to even make a dollar that for creators starting off they simply wouldn’t be able to compete where as to youtube as long as you pass the standard to make money off a video then you get paid a set fraction amount from the views it makes

The "hard to blame media moguls for being business dickheads" argument is pretty shit. When businesses do shitty things then we should call them out to make sure they know they're not getting away with it. When a business like tiktok has grown it now has a lot of power to control things within and without the scope of its own business. Dont perpetuate bad business ethics by writing it off with cliché bull like "tiktok is just making a smart business move" they're not. Making sure their creators are happy, healthy, and earning a proper living is the smartest business move for the longevity of a business model like tiktoks. Period. End of conversation.

Valkyrae was not the first one to come up with it but I do think item beauty's team saw how much people talked about and decided to drop one of their own soon after and actually make that money

One thing I’ve seen mentioned about Tik Tok/Vine/Musically is that creators have very little market pull relative to UA-cam/twitch creators.
People go on UA-cam to watch their subscribers new videos and content. Along with other very similar style videos for that UA-cam session. If the creator leaves the site, a lot of people will follow suit. (Assuming they are big enough, Ludwig is a good example) this is a core reason why UA-cam is successful and why they pay creators a lot if they are big enough.
People go on tik tok however to see a random feed of videos that have little connection to each other. A variety of content that is so large, that if a major tik tok star stops posting, someone can and will replace them immediately. Its the same thing with Instagram reels and UA-cam shorts and now now Netflix shorts. The nature of the media really makes the creators rely on the platform rather than the platform relying on them.
Not saying that it’s fair at all and what baffles me the most is the fact the fund is a fixed amount. That is literally the same as being paid less for being good at your job. Really hope something changes, but idk how it happens.

I just watched a video earlier today that detailed all the beauty releases this week and there are several brands touting blue light stuff - big companies too. I think a lot of brands planned to have blue light be their new "it" thing to target.
For the record, blue-light glasses are just as much a scam as this makeup stuff. I'm not sure why they've gotten away with it while the exact same thing for makeup get's immediately crushed.
The claims of impacts on health are pseudoscience. It is correct however that the light can disrupt sleep schedules. Not sure if the special glasses have been proven effective as a fix for this though.

I can see a possible argument for the effectiveness of the glasses, given that built in night mode features specifically for phones and monitors do have been proven to improve it, but I’ve not entirely looked into them.

I wanted to add something relevant or not about the limited amount of money for payouts on tiktok, it's the same problem for music platforms like spotify :
your subscription goes into a pool. That pool is shared with every artists on the platform and they get the percentage of listen they had that month divided by the total amount of streams by everybody else. That's why someone like JB when he asked his fans to play Yummy on loop was super scummy or Drake releasing a 30 boring songs album like Scorpion, they enlarged their share of the pie, cutting money for smaller musicians. That's why Tidal now gives 10% of your sub to your top 5 of the month and its important to buy an album that you love a lot directly from the artist on Bandcamp for example or their store.

I see this shit ALL the time, and a small creator- it’s hard as fuck to get anyone to listen to how ridiculous it is that people are getting away with just posting other creators’ copyrighted shit and getting hundreds of thousands of views and likes w/ no repercussions or credit given to the original creator. They’re nothing but parasites and actually do flood the platform with their garbage, making them more likely to be recommended over someone who makes content that they’ve put work into or have at least come up with on their own.

where as Valky has a fan base more in their 20's, Addisons' is made up of 14 year olds. Valkyreas' fan base are smart enough to do their own research. Addisons' fan base, including my 14 yr old niece, doesn't know the difference between countrys and continents. My niece literally ran into my room and told me that she needed blue light stuff for her face because it was so bad for her skin.
The set fund split across the platform is also how Spotify pays artists, and from all the artists I’ve seen talk about it’s fucking atrocious.

Blue light actually doesn't hurt your eyes either, but it WILL keep you awake. The purpose of those blue light filters on Windows/Mac is to have them turn on late at night before you go to bed so you can sleep.

Tiktok ads can be skipped by everyone and appear quite a lot less thank youtube ads, where one could be found potentially before every video as well as during them. Tiktok ads only appear once in every 5-10 videos and in addition to that people are trained to skip past them faster and thus less ad engagement. Makes it really hard to compare tiktok and youtube because of that.
