The way we use names like Dave Weckl, Vinnie Colaiuta, and Buddy Rich…Matt Garstka’s name will 100% be apart of those conversations, if they’re not already being had. He continues to just get better and better, truly pushing the limits of himself and the instrument. Not to mention he’s still young as fuck. Imagine him in 10-20 years. Hell, just imagine him next year. He’s gonna blow our minds away no matter what lol
There will absolutely never be another drummer who could emulate Matt's vibe on the kit. Makes me grateful to live in the internet/content creation age where we can watch and learn from players like him.
@@jonathanmellqvist2 You can draw inspiration from great drummers but you can never replace them. There will be new great players that come around yes. But there will never be another Matt Garstka.
@@JDStiix You draw inspiration from the great to become greater. Of course there will be one as good if not even better! Look at evolution in any sport. @@jonathanmellqvist2 I think you misunderstand my statement. I have no doubt drumming will evolve and develop into newer and better ideas long after Matt. But no two drummers have the same touch, feel, approach to drums. Raw skill and your general approach to the kit are two separate concepts. @@JDStiix We have different believes. I am 100% sure that if someone is inspired by Matt and gets obsessed with Matt's style he will be able to replicate that style if he sets his mind to it. But he's not untouchable. Having played the drums for 20 years I understand the things be plays and can somewhat play his parts. If I practiced only Matt stuff for a year I would be able to play it without a problem. Imagine 5 years later, 5 years of only Matt Gartska obsession.
Long time drummer here. I've been around a lot of drummers. In the studio, on tours, I've spent a large majority of my life watching percussionists from all styles and genres. This is truly the absolute top tier, most authentic, and awe-inspiring drummer that has ever lived. It's mastery on a scale that boggles my mind.
which is funny you mention this because, (i know you are correct, dont worry) i saw on another AAL video some idiot saying this band is not good and makes bad music LOL...and they need a bassist. can you imagine being that braindead you think AAL is bad???
The electronic elements are beyond underrated in their affect on the percussion. Really the unsung hero of AAL’s signature sound. Masterclass-playing, as always.
Guys, I finally figured out how you achive this level of skill, you can learn from Matt here. All you need is to look into the future when you've already got it, and learn from your future self. EazyPeasy.
When there is so many phenomenal drummers, it's hard to nail down which one exactly is "best". Especially when accompanied by the reality of subjectivity. But, by most standards and measures, I'd say a case could certainly be made for you probably being slightly above the rest of the elite drummers.
Take note of where this man's snare impacts are. If you ever wonder how he sounds so good, it's also incredible precision along with the warehouse amt of techniques he's got in stock
Very important if you havent found them yet MOUSE ON THE KEYS , their leviathan is a good show of force the only drummer I've found that is on your level
So I just caught Garstka name from another YT channel, talking about best drummer in the world, and while I am huge fan of El Estepario Siberiano , and he is insanely amazing to watch, (especially his one handed drumming) Garstka (and I am sure there a few others) are in a whole other realm of drumming. His skill with time management is insane.
Truly one of the greatest drummers of our time
All time
THE greatest**** NO CONTEST
@@Unanythang100% there are many imitators, only one of Matt.

Dude the synchronization of the kicks with the backing track was jaw dropping!
I started giggling when I heard it. fuckin awesome
Then you realize it's a midi triggered synth 😂
(Kidding)
@@jonathanmellqvist2 hang on, this is actually a really cool idea.
@@samsambanana yeah electronic drum kits have done stuff like that since like the late 90's ^^
Agreed! I loved that bit
I wish Matt would release a solo album of tracks like this
Absolutely. It would give me a break from hearing how uncanny Fishman pickups are.
Check out his stuff with Casimir Liberski
He kind of did, he was part of some duo group named Victoria I think? Might have the name wrong but it's pretty damn good.

Damn, that groove at the end with the ghost notes....
Had the pleasure of seeing AAL two weeks ago. This man is an absolute joy to listen to behind the kit.
It’s hard to imagine welling-up over drums…until you see Matt live. It’s real.
Im just glad to be alive to watch this guy do his thing in real time.
This has heavy Risk Of Rain 2 soundtrack vibes and I absolutely love it.
Some of my favorite material from Matt to date in this one. Floor toms sounded tuned to the key of the instruments. Love the whole concept here.
That B part is amazing. The amost anoying fact is that every note that feels out of place is perfectly writed. Amazing
Matt is basically always on our television this summer
I like to think Matt is locked in some room and cant leave till he plays and decodes the alien tabs that are written on the walls.
It's actually the aliens studying him
@@johnnyhurley7161 that makes way more sense

3:10-3:25=HELLLLLLLLLL YESSSSSSSSSS!!! The whole track is mastery of music at it's finest. Thanks Matt !!

My man is pushing boundaries
He is just in perfect control of everything he does. I am not even a drummer, but I can't wait for other videos like this one.
I love how after all the mind bending and choppy stuff he's still in there phat w/ the groove
Dude is so, so good. Doesn't get enough mention I think. Truly in a class all by himself I feel.
Loooove this guy! He is everything Ive ever wanted to see in a drummer 🙇♂️

Ghosts for days, brother! Killer.
God the look on his face at the end when he starts swinging around the 16ths. Hahaha I feel you dude.

Really inspirational groove dude so much that maybe no-one can play it again or very difficult!!Timing from outer space!!😮😮😮
Homies chops are almost as swole as he is 💪🏼

GOD-like performance...and seems he didn't release a single point of a sweat...ehm! Not a visible one I guess... :D Keep up Matt, U R no.1 ☝️

Duh?
incredible drumming aside, this song is so good

3:40 Impresionante ! es un god este man
Matt 'ghost note' Garstka in full effect!
Dude has more ghost notes in his discography than most drummers have normal notes
The shuffle at 345 is the highlight for me
So good
Yes sirrrr
i came running
Every time I see him his arms have gotten bigger and his beard has gotten viking-er.
one thing I love about Matt is how tight his cymbals are, it barely moves when hit lol
