Like you, I like standalone novels much better than series books. I think the series should be released in one large volume, most of the time, unless they're some chunkers like the Wheel of Time series. Releasing small novels as a series to me just seems like a way to make readers pay more money, which annoys me. I try to stay away from series books, normally.

Yes, I agree. By the time the next in the series is released, I've usually read 50 other books and forgotten what's going on!
