Great stuff, thanks! I purchased a couple dozen old AMT kits (circa 1958-63) some years back with the idea of getting back in to model car building. They've been sitting in two large boxes all this time. I guess I should take one out and get cracking!

For the starter hole in the distributor, chuck a pin into a pin vise and heat the pin over a flame. Once hot, touch the tip of the pin to the center of the distributor.

I do my distributor the same way, except I use the pin vice rather than a drill. I use four long pieces of fuse wire bent in the middle and superglue the bent part into the distributor. Cut them roughly to length then add a bend about 5mm from each end. That way you can push the end into the spark plug hole and chances are it’ll stay in place without glue.

Just a quick note that you should remember, on the plug holes since the heads up are identical and can be used on either side on one head all the holes will go like you did, but on the other head the fourth plug hole will be behind the last exhaust port. If you really want to get nit picky look at a photo of a big block to see which head has the holes start in the front and the other side in back of the fourth exhaust port.

    Callywhatsit?
One trick I like to do, even though its probably the biggest no no, and worst thing you can do to a kit, and paint job. Plus, its kinda gross. Is when I do a black interior. Is to either airbrush, or spray paint your interior matt, or flat. Once its cured. Take a finger, and rub your nose near the nostril. ( Not up the nostril. Beside..... Beside. ) Wipe off most of the skin oil on whatever you have handy, then rub your finger over the seats in a buffing action. It gives the seat a light sheen of real leather. Its a weird effect. But looks great. Not sure where I found that tip. Might have been in a sci-fi modeling magazine. Also, don't brush paint them. The buffing will make the brush stroke visible.
Just.. Uhhh... Make sure to try it on a spare seat first, in case your results vary. Last thing I need is for everyone thinking I'm talking out of my...... What was it? Cattywompas? Cathymorris? Caddywhozit? Pretty sure I'm using the term wrong. Or, as we say down here. I buggered it up lol
Edit: ohhh yeah. Talking about modeling injuries. I have one. I was building a 1/4 Alien from Halcyon. It was late. I was tired. it was the last thing I was gonna do. Exacto slipped, and the blade went in to my palm. How far? About half the blade length. As I'm sitting there bleeding all over a Xenomorph. I noticed something yellowish in the cut. So, being a doofus. I pulled it out. What was it? A long strip of fat. Before you could say "Blergh" I'd snipped off the excess with scissors, prodded the rest back in, and slapped a band aid on it. No brain. No pain. Plus. I've got this really, really cool scar. lmao

  • @FMChimera

Hmm, I've always glued the cabin into the body, then glued frame/floor in, either to the body or the cab floor, whatever, because I hated trying to guestimate the body fit otherwise. Doesn't matter how the interior fits to the frame; it's all hidden...

Matt. How did you get that drill bit out of that engine without having to rip the engine apart? Oh and I messed up my wrist on a bicycle. I was going down the street and thought that my brake cables were crossed, because I was having front brake problems. Well when I went to try and uncross them I flipped over the front of my bike and broke my wrist and had to have surgery. After that then I went into the service.
