Ahhh 1966, the year my Uncle decided I needed to begin my trip through the jungle. But I do remember this Chevy (neighbor's new car) as the last new car I saw for several years (magazines, yea). What a memory flogger. Your detailing is superb as are your choice of options - spot on. Skinny whitewalls were a real status symbol for a while, as were FULL hubcaps not them "dog dishes". Thank you, once again for sharing...
Nice to meet you. Comment from Japan. I love American cars. I made some, but I couldn't make them so beautiful. It’s the best finish. 😊 I'll let you see it 😀
I bought this model primarily because it’s a 66, my birth year. I have a few ideas about a low rider paint job. I have a few kits ahead of this one but it looks like a fun kit to build up. Great build. The classics are so cool to see.
I owned 2 of these , one was new and was stolen from the parking lot where I worked ,and the other I got in the early 1980's and while parked someone ran into it and totaled it. Someday I will find another one. That was a great car.
Wow ! Chris, this is definitely the best Chevy Impala model I have ever seen anybody do. You painted it my favorite color. If I bought this kit, I would probably paint it blue as well. I use to build Lowrider bicycles and I joined a small Lowrider car club that wanted a Lowrider bicycle chapter. And I was cruising it one day when a large Hispanic man was in his front yard and he flagged me down because he wanted to look at my bicycle. He had a 66 Chevy Impala Lowrider parked in his front yard. It was blue as well. Then he introduced me to his younger brother who showed me his 64 Impala he was restoring. I will admit at first I was a little afraid of these guys because they looked tough and mean but they were really cool to me and invited me to come back to their house for dinner. Great job. I love your channel ! Keep up the good work !
Excellent job and huge amount of detail. When I was a boy I liked model car building but I was young and inexperienced. If I ever decide to go back to it I will go all out.
Great job man! I remember when I was about 7 my grandpa bought a new impala in 1966 and he took me my brother and my grandma to the Beach that summer for vacation
Turns out they had one after all. Actually picked one one up and unboxed it. This is super sweet kit...fit and finish appears to be great. Guys who are into the old iron or old Impala super sports should give this kit a shot. The lowrider spoker rims look great as well as the whitewall tires. Like you said...could build it a lot of ways. Or go crazy with bare metal or Molotov marker. Or go totally lowrider mode and candy or pearl paints. Very cool kit that's as easy to build as you want it to be or you can go over the top nuts and super detail it. Buy one and build it YOUR way!
My Uncle (Dad’s younger brother) bought a four door hardtop Impala new in ‘66. I remember it as a kid as I was five-six years old at the time. It was I think the first new car I can remember seeing.......mostly finned stuff our family had around that time I was seeing. Beautiful job on that one Chris! I had the ‘65 Chevy convertible kit, sold it, now I want another one! GM styling was at its best during those years.......not an ugly one in the bunch! 👍
Awesome job!! I just want to thank you for all your great videos. You got me back into building after about 15 years off. Your tips are great and you're an awesome teacher of the hobby.
Great build !! I miss my '66, it was my first new car and I had it until 10 years ago when it was stolen and wound up in a "chop shop". Of course insurance did not cover the true value of the car. Brand new I bought it for $3,400 fully loaded. Mine was Marina Blue.
It is not a car......, a scale model........ it is a candy on four wheels!. Of course, my pet one is that green dump truck you've built. Thanks Chris for this incredible model.
Local hobby shop had one but it's gone now. I truly believe your videos sell alot of kits cause people see all the cool stuff in it. Got my jagermeister porshe ordered thru local hobby shop. Meanwhile I am working on the revell special edition 1949 mercury with a chopped top. Another sweet kit!! Keep em coming man!!
Nice build! As a GM guy, the 66 sport coupe has always been one of my favorite body styles for the Imp. Personally, I'd do it black on black, but, it's your build. I'm almost finished with my build combining two Revell 78 GMC plow trucks into one truck with an 8' bed. Next up will be brazing a car trailer together out of brass tubing for it to "pull". The trailer will also have stained/weathered scale wood for the deck. The "barn find" Camaro that will ride on the trailer is finished and collecting dust in the garage. When the trailer is finished, I'll hit the Camaro, dust and all, with a flat clear, then chain it down on the trailer. Mating the two truck kits to make one with an 8' bed has definitely been a challenge, but, it's also been a lot of fun. I can't wait to find out how challenging the trailer will be!
I built the original kit and the parts fit and the detail is great. Mine was the Monogram version and listed as a 65. The Foose kit is a 65 also. Not sure of minor differences in 65 to 66. Another great build by the Happy Guy!
An SS 396 factory 4 speed with factory power steering and brakes AND A/C!!! In real life that is a very low production build configuration that would come close to 6 figures at Mecum or Barrett-Jackson!! I absolutely love it, great build!
Thanks so much for sharing your tips with us I have improved so much with my clear windows do to your tip with modge podge that again for sharing the impala turned out great.
Very nice job on a classic my dad once owned!!! I can recommend 'Dr. Drybooth' by MicroMark. A very nice compact booth to accelerate the drying time of plastic models!!! Recently while painting a tractor trailer for a client I purchased this booth and it really speeds up the assembly time and really bakes the paint onto the model.......... just a suggestion. I'm sure there are a number of ways to accelerate the drying time of a plastic model but this worked the best for me in my current living situation....
That's nice but crazy expensive. I've seen people modify food dehydrators which is all Micro Mark does (relabeled food dehydrator) and then increase the price three times over. Thanks for watching! facebook.com/hpiguysworkshop
Nice build; I think the blue paint has come out pretty good - even though it wasn't what you'd intended. Great finish as usual. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to what's next.
Hello, again. I just wanted to tell you that I really enjoy your Vids. I have looked at other guys who kind of do the same thing. I enjoy you best. I have noticed that the newest releases have printed tiers. I have some of the same kits from a few years ago. Mine are older and they do not have the printed tires or extra tires. Even the decals have dash decals that the older ones don't. Makes me want to sell them and buy the newer ones, LOL. Thank you for this review and build. I really enjoyed it. I've been looking at your Vids for a while now. I've seen all of them. Thanks again.
Love the fan belt assembly. If you were going to build it as a street performance car i personally would have painted the diff cover chrome. Alot of guys back in the day would upgrade rear end and use a chrome diff cover and chrome valve covers. Great build.
Another great build, you put a lot of details on models. But I noticed that you don't address the headliners or the color or details inside the roof areas of the car. Also that chrome plate in the middle of the back seat is the rear speaker. Thanks for another informative video. I'm waiting to see if you might have a 64 chevy impala, it was our family car at the time.
Very nice build, I just ordered this kit it will be perfect for my Dirty Mary Crazy Larry build with the 69 Charger and the two door 66 Impala SS. The street burner version of the 66 Impala is a 4 door not what was used in the movie.....................................................................Ken
Hey Chris, you should do a tutorial on doing dashboard detailing with your silver pen, would be very interesting to watch you do that! I am sure many that watch your channel would appreciate it!
love that interior, those seperate panels make it nice to super detail, love the quality of these parts, and that little chain steering wheel, might buy 3 or 4 (a couple a nice cars and lots of extra parts for other builds

It appears they used the chassis and other parts from the 1965 impala but with new body and grille. If this is indeed the case...definitely get one Gorgeous car in real life...really nice detailed kit....and of course....super nice build Chris!! You da man!!
Thanks for sharing, grwst job. I have a 1/24 scale wheelchair (diy Ironside Van as kit is insanely priced evn if I could find it). It's 3D printed in Nylon 12 (polyamide12) so I have to use Tamyia primer for Nylon & Polyurethane. A quick question, can I go over with a regular primer after 1st coat with above (or special one for plastics) in silver or light grey as the above is a clear coat (for exposed wheelchair metal parts)? @@hpiguy I was following the instructions and it didn't seem to say glue to make the wheels up and then just snap on to Axel. Will the glue stop then spinning
This model kit reminds me of the '66 Impala that was on the movie Dirty Mary Crazy Larry. At the beginning, Peter Fonda drove a blue '66 Impala before he switched to a '69 Dodge Charger R/T.

Nice to meet you. Comment from Japan. I love American cars. I made some, but I couldn't make them so beautiful. It’s the best finish. 😊 I'll let you see it 😀
Nice,, it's about time a model company release a 66 Impala kit, and Revell is doing a good job releasing model kits never before issued.

FYI, the back seat trim that you have refered to is the rear seat speaker grill assy.
Thanks!
My parents had a 1968 Impala, 4 doors, that's what I learned to drive in, and what I took my driving test in. Love the Impala.

The 66 Impala SS 396 in one of my favorite rides. They look awesome in a bright flame red. I wish this kit came with a set of GM rally wheels
Wow im glad they came back out with this 66 i have the 65 great job i love it.

I think one time I suggested you get an airbrush, but in retrospect, I think it's great you show people what can be done with a simple rattle can!
I have multiple airbrushes and use them as needed.
Spray cans are faster and more fun. Less cleaning, more building. :)
Beautiful and stunning kit. Super details - one of the best from Revell.
Well done Chris! It looks pretty good.
