One of the best events Marvel has ever put out. Pulled in and popularized the most random characters, and raised stakes in an environment that seemed like it couldn’t go any bigger. It was so high quality from start to finish
I absolutely love Nova's reaction to Civil War in a What If? story where he shows right in the end of Civil War when Steve was about to make Tony's face into a ground meat and Nova's just: SERIOUSLY?! We're about to be fucked on a galactic scale!
Man, this story really changed my life. "When I was a boy" I hated marvel cosmology I always thought it was corny & lame. Then freshman year of HS Annihilation came out & changed everything. I was hooked. Not only did I stay on board with the new ongoing Marvel cosmology, all the way through until Thanos Imperative. But it caused me to go back & discover some fantastic & now favorite books of mine. Story’s like Stan Lee’s Silver Surfer, Jim Valentinos Guardians of the Galaxy, & much more! Now Marvel’s cosmology is my favorite part of Marvel comics. It subsequently caused a snowball affect prompting me to fall in love with Sci-Fi more in general across different mediums. From Adam Strange & Flash Gordan to FireFly & TNG. So long story short this comic & its sequels are great!!

Ahhh Annihilation I loved this and the Nova series that came out of it, Richard calling out Tony Stark on him and Captain America smashing their respective action figures against another while he ripped out Annihilus' intestines who slaughtered billions made him one of my favourite characters. As a Jim Starlin fan that enjoys the introspective nature of Thanos and Adam Warlock with their confronting existentialism and nihilism, however he could have toned down the grand scale of his stories amd tbh Keith Giffen and Ron Marz were the only writers who seemed to keep that introspective nature of Thanos without turning him into space Jeffery dahmer.

I could imagine Nova flying to Earth, and practicing his speech to try and sway Cap and Iron man. Just muttering to himself, "Okay, just tell them Annihlus took Galactus's power and needs to be stopped..." Off in the distance, the Fantastic Four Tower immediately launches into space. "I drop those names alone and that should be enough to get them to stop squabbling..."
Hey guys, You definitely sold me on reading Annihilation and I fell in love with it! I hope you do Annihilation Conquest, I just finished all the tie ins and I'm starting the main story itself!
This is hands down my favourite Marvel event. I was already a fan of Nova from his New Warriors days but this was, and is still, the best story they ever told with him. That said the whole era of Marvel cosmic that ran from Annihilation to the Thanos Imperative was awesome, with relatively few mis-steps.
The thing about Annihilus is that he controls all of the "Power Cosmic" of his dimension and he's being further enhanced by Death herself- she wants to eliminate half the universe and had commanded Thanos to serve Annihilus in this end. The Quantum Bands are very much like the Power Infinity Gem- they're a conduit to unlimited power. So Annihilus is just unstoppable with the bands on.
Let's see... It's Christmas break... classes are out... no new shows to watch today... something feels missing... *Looks at notification* *M. Bison voice* OF COURSE!
BEST BOOK/MARVEL EVENT EVERRRRRRR. OF ALL TIME. Probably the best version of Star-Lord pre MCU. Ricard Ryder becomes Kyle Rayner. Drax punches through Thanos' chest. The guardians are formed for the first time. Gamora is a total badass. Oh and my main man Adam Warlock comes back. The crappest F4 villian , IMO, becomes the biggest threat in the universe. I LOVE THIS GODDAMN EVENT.
Annihilus was crappier than Blastaar? Annihilus was cool in that he was a bug who accidentally obtained the "power cosmic" ... and then being a bug, he exemplified what a bug would do if they had the power cosmic: eat, breed, survive.
If there was ever a Scene I'd want from the Comics to see the most in an MCU Movie or Animated Movie... Nice! Annihilation is the story that made me a fan of Marvel’s cosmic characters, especially Nova. Nice to see you all finally do this story on the show. Also, I love how in two different stories, in canon and a What-If, Nova talks shit about Civil War. He’s just in complete disbelief of how much Earth’s heroes have fucked up. lol

Oddly enough, what this reminded me of was Crisis on Infinite Earths. Gigantic story, awesome spectacle, titanic godlike beings...and I have no idea what's going on, but it is absolutely rad and I'm here for it.
That really is all Jim Starlin's Infinity Events are. I know people try to say that JS is the only person who can write Thanos "properly" but that's only because he writes Thanos as the most important/unique/complex/special snowflake character of the entire multiverse. Don't get me wrong, JS has done some great work on Thanos and his stories are enjoyable, but they're total wank-fests that destabilize anything and everything just to push his golden boy. That tangent aside, THANK YOU for doing this event, Sal. It's a joy to read and a joy to see how much you enjoy the event. Despite how simple the event is on a very basic level, this is a truly iconic event.
I think his development of Thanos before Infinity Abyss in stories like Thanos Quest, the Warlock Comics and Infinity Gauntlet and War were great for the development of the character, but post Infinity War, besides Thanos Epiphany id say I agree. Especially the last two trilogies he did a few years ago.
@@Ashguy733 The true Infinity trilogy were solid Thanos stories even if the actual events aside from Gauntlet weren't. But everything beyond that is a problem for me, including Marvel:: The End. Don't get me wrong, they're individually/taken on their own fun reads but that's really all they are. How many times does Thanos have to search for/gain ultimate power from a new source and then lose it? How many times does he have to go on a personal growth trip and realise that he doesn't do well when he gains his dream of being "god"? To me, the Thanos stories are like being forced to watch ever more modern remakes of the same story where every retelling ups the stakes, ups his badassery and then makes the rest of the Marvel-verse have to deal with the fall out. And again, I'm not slamming the quality of the work here. I just don't think the work itself needs to be told.
@@morlath4767 True enough, I personally like that he goes from being obsessed with Death and trying to answer his existential questions in the build up to Gauntlet gratifying, and then in the stories leading up to Infinity War we have him change to searching for knowledge instead of power and he actually questions his association with Death and chooses his rivalry with Adam Warlock, then we have Marvel The End where yeah its a bit of a repeat and then epiphany where he tries to go on a road of redemption. In Starlin's comics Thanos really only achieves godgood three times, one which is technically non canon which is Starlins last infinity trilogy, but I always read and saw development of Thanos search for meaning, via power, love and knowledge to be intriguing. While everytime he gains godhood its sorta a repeat, its not everytime and I enjoy the stories where it isn't like I said the Warlock comics, Thanos Quest, Infinity Gauntlet and Infinity War and Thanos Epiphany are great everything else by Starlin I try to ignore because of reasons you suggest above. I personally liked if Starlin had focused more on his themes of Cosmic Existentialism without dooming the universe everytime.
