There are maybe a handful of PhD graduates in the world who have made significant progress to science and engineering. All others just do a PhD to lift their low self esteem - don't let your PhD be just another self esteem boost, do something useful with it. Some PhD graduates start shining after they've got the title, because they get burnout in the middle of the research. Your PhD doesn't make you who you are, its the skills you develop while doing the PhD research that adds the real value to you.
Hello ma'am, I am so glad to see your video today cause I have a similar story. I graduated with my bachelors degree in India in 2023 (from a reputed university, IIT Roorkee) and got a PhD offer in chemical engineering at The University of Kansas which I accepted. But within the first sementer I realized that I'm not ready for this. no offence to KU but I was already dealing with some serious depression and anxiety which made it very difficult for me to cope up with the academics. That led to a lower grade point in the first semester and termination of my funding. After which I had to return back to Inda. After months of sitting at home and struggling with mental issues and the taunts from my mother and younger brother (my father's dead) I'm trying to get a start at my life again. Right now I'm working as a freelancer where I make and sell websites and mobile apps to my clients. But even this effort seems to be in vain given the whole AI hype and stuff. Honestly watching someone else who dealt with a similar incident does give me some hope to give my best efforts for the day.
Stay creatively flowing forward, Himanshu. It's a very painful realization that your family are not emotionally on your side. Instead of demanding how life should be, we do whatever is most meaningful, and I've been blessed with some amazingly authentic friends around the world. eg Amit Tandon who founded Ventana Cleantech is worth a mention since you were heading to ChemEng and he's not far from Uttarakand. If ALL your feelings are welcomed as guides instead of feared or "bog-downs", life becomes a very special adventure, step by step, failed opportunity leading to successful opportunity. If one learns not to be overreactive, a big heart + down-to-earth wisdom does overcome all.
Hi thank you for the message. I'm sorry that it didn't work out for you and that your family was unsupportive, they're probably dealing with some internal insecurity causing them to act this way...I think it's common to experience depression and anxiety to the extent that you had to terminate the funding. I also struggled a lot mentally with definitely affected my ability to work during the PhD :/ But all that it takes is to take small steps in the right direction every day and suddenly good things will happen :)
Himanshu you will 100% benefit from cognitive behaviour therapy or cbt. Either meet a practising clinical psychologists or read David Burns book - Feeling good the new mood therapy
@docindia-b5i Doesn't CBT help set behavior patterns without healing the inner wounds? I've known a few CBT "graduates" and they were earning well, but not at peace with themselves.
A PhD is not about hard or technical work. Or even labour. You can assess on things, but it comes with years. I have developed my studies and articles during these years with experience.
@stringsandtheory9750 I already passed through my stage of science, knowledge, and wisdom and I now dedicate to technical, and hard work for the need of humankind. It has it's science, but I can certainly tell you that I still learn philosophical, physical, scientific, metaphysical, and theological things with experience that I can make books, and articles life-changing.
Thumbs up! It is a period you will become more stronger and mature and know to deal with different hard situation, you will notice and know it helps for your future.

As far as I know it is very hard to stay in academics after completing a phd. What are your thoughts on that? It would be frustrating for me to do a few years of research when knowing that you probably end up in industry anyway.

Hi! Originally I started it to partially fund my PhD but I quickly realized that this is extremely unlikely because UA-cam is really not a get "money fast scheme"😅. My other reasons, which are now the main reasons, I do UA-cam is to have a creative outlet as well as showing that it's okey to behave a bit "autistic" and that people's differences should be accepted. I've also gotten a lot of motivation from watching other people on UA-cam talking about their struggles so I figured someone might see my story and feel less alone :) I think UA-cam has made me a lot better at speaking and every time you upload a video you feel a sense of "creative" accomplishment. It's also nice when people take the time to leave comments and questions so thank you very much :)

Even if someone found it they have their own lives to worry about and probably won't even watch your videos :) It helps to think "If I where to find my friend/colleagues UA-cam channel, would I really make fun of them or even take the time to watch all their content?"
