    Ted …. You do realize you help many of us mercruiers out here who depend on your knowledge & expertise. My problem is a water trickle coming into my 19’ vessel from the very bottom around the area where you removed the 2 bottom bolts…Now I have an idea what’s going on down there even though that wasn’t your main intent of your video, but it helped with my issue, And what’s important also is you explain as you work.

    I deliberately broke off the bolt heads of my rear motor mount bolts because i couldn't get them out. Like an idiot i didnt know why i did that, because have i known there was a nut in the rear motor mount bolt, i would of attacked it a different way. And yes this is the way now. After i remove the transom mount i can get to that nut on the motor mount thats in the U channel.

    Hi Ted, I have a 2007 sea ray 195 sport. The engine is a 5.0l merc V8 carb. The drive i a Alpha One gen2. The boat was in storage for 7 years and only has about 40hours on it.
    Unfortunately when I put it in the water last summer water was litteraly pouring in from somewhere on the transom. Looking at the amount of water coming in I am suspecting the seal on the y-exhaust horn but I am not sure. Could I pursuade you to take a look at a video of mine and give your insight?
    Thank you so much in advance
    Greetings from Denmark
    Andy

      Sure thing. I would like a consultation fee of $100 via Zelle if that is possible.

    Great videos. Do you know if the bolt pattern is the same if i am taking out my gen 1 transome assembly including inside one and putting everything from gen 2?

    • @tedsmarinerepair8956
      @tedsmarinerepair8956  3 роки тому

      Yes same pattern. There maybe 2 more bolts on the top depending on gen 1/MR year

    Just found your video. Super informative. I am trying to remove the entire shift cable assembly on an old merc # 1 outdrive (1966) and using the 9/16 socket and have stripped the nut . any suggestions ? Thanks , Steve

      Yes, you should be able to drill out the center of the cable housing just under the tap size and run the tap through the hole. Start small and work up with the drill bits

      @@tedsmarinerepair8956 Thanks Ted , will have a go at this fix. Just was worried about ruining old bellhousing.

      @@stevewilliams7153 If you cut the backside of he cable and pull out the center you should have no problem drilling it out,

      If that cable is in the bell housing (Shift bracket on the engine to the outdrive bell housing) Then just cut the cable off behind the bell housing, pull the cable through and drill our the center of the cable-start small and work up in size until you get to the recommend drill size for the pipe tap that is used to rethread the housing for the new cable.

    Watched 1 and two loved the videos, does the gen2 bolt up to the gen one holes ?

    • @tedsmarinerepair8956
      @tedsmarinerepair8956  3 роки тому +2

      Negative. Gen 1 and gen 2 are not interchangeable.
      However all 1983-1990 R, MR, & Alpha One (gen 1) are interchageable. And I believe all 1991 and up gen 2 units are as well.

    what spray do you use to lubricate your rusty bolts?

      For frozen fasteners I use Kano Kroil or PB blaster for general coating I like Boeshield T9 or to save a few bucks you can use a silicon spray.
