Eyyyyyyyyy, great vid Michael and great work on the blacksmith!! So cool to see the various ways people choose to the various materials and supplies. You opted to torture yourself with individual shingles rather than the strips lol. Love it😁 The cork chunks for the stone work is very cool as well. Never would have thought to use those for that and it's almost as if it was meant for it. Glad you enjoyed the kit my friend and looking forward to seeing what else you manage to do with it!! Cheers!🍻
Hahaha yeah man, nothing like a little self torture with the shingles lol Dude the kit is fantastic, having so much fun with it! I've go a few ideas for the blacksmith too but I think they will have to wait till I get back from Christmas holidays in January! Home you and the family have a wonderful Christmas together, Much love from The Girls and me to you all!
I was just a bit worried from your videos title because I loved the box when I opened it and found everything I needed to make the scene and nothing else had to be found or purchased to complete the project. I really love that about this, Neil all did a wonderful job. I cannot recommend this kit more enthusiastically!
haha yes! I totally agree. I just did the title to get people to click on. it... you would be surprised how hard it is to get people to click a video these days lol
Pheeeeeeeeeew- that title had me worried. Good video, nice to see other's perspectives and ideas regarding crafting. It's really cool to see how pigment powders are taking off in popularity. They really do bring a level of realism to the builds and minies that can be difficulty to achieve with just paint. One point of concern, though: individual tiles? My man, you need to love yourself!
haha yeah... but the extra effort does go a long way. And it can be kind of hypnotic once you get in to the swing of laying down the shingles. I just listen to a fun podcast or something :D
I love how the different shades of washes blend to make it so realistic. I think you made the right call making your tiles. All in all, it looks wonderful. As for your question, I think kits like this are best for beginners because it sets them up with a huge amount of tools and supplies which is a great advantage. But for someone like me who’s been in the hobby for a long while, I have all the tools and supplies so buying them again isn’t practical.
Thanks Mark !! Thanks for the input on the box question too.. I can see how seasoned crafters might now get as much value out of the box as someone who is coming in fresh to the hobby without the tools etc.. Hope you are well buddy ;)
Great job on the build. I think the kit would be great for a beginner but not for someone who has been crafting for a while and has a bunch of the stuff already. I really wish Neil would sell the MDF kit on it's own for those of us that already have most if not all of the supplies. I've never done and MDF kit before and it would be fun to give it a go.
I personally love scratch building for my channel but I think kits are an awesome way to get into the hobby and fun ways to create! Ultimately I would say they’re for anyone who is passionate about the craft and it’s good to use a variety of materials and techniques to develop your skills and preferences! The build came out great and I hope your daughter enjoys it!
I totally agree. Scratch building is the most fun! Most of what I do is scratch building, but I have to say I did really enjoy this kit! ohhhh I'm sure she will enjoy it, but rather than minis wit will probably get populated by paw patrol characters lol
I think the kit is incredible value for money, especially if you're just starting out. But, it would be amazing to see the same kind of kit without the proper reusable tools included as another price point to choose from.
Great vide! I just started using cork board, washes and pigment powders and love the look it provides. I agree the kit is well worth the money and would be a great starter kit for new crafters without really having to buy a ton of items.
Thanks man! Definitely agree withj you omn the cork and pigments etc.. loads of fun! If I was a new crafter and someone gave me this boix I would be blown away!
Great build, Neil has done a fantastic job with sorting this pack out & ensuring the results are superb for a first craft. I think the Box is great as a gift & decent value for money ..... but 🤣, you can start crafting with household waste, a good knife, steel rule & a handful of paints. That said, I am Scottish so I really don't like spending money at all 🤣
Fair comment! Gotta remember you can still use the household waste ... which means that the contents of this box last even longer ;) But each to their own!
Neat video on this very comprehensive kit. I saw the RTH video on this builder’s kit and fell in love with the design of the blacksmith’s property, so I immediately crafted the shed-roof domicile with dormer out of foam core board.
Great video love the build! I must admit I thought the price of the kit was a little steep UNTIL...I started adding up everything, I gave up about half way through as I already knew it was great value :)
Neil always creates great work so I am not surprised he did such a awesome kit. Maybe he should sell the Blacksmith Forge, Laser Cut Scale Model separately for those that already have tons of tools and supplies?
I think that would definitely be a cool option! It's really hard to gauge what people want I recon... One thing is for sure is that all the products are great quality!
I’ve bought kits like this in the past and while I love them I think my main problem is shipping and converting costs into AUD. Usually means I should just source things locally for cheaper than the box. I love the idea of them though.
You did an amazing job on neals kit Michael. I think its an amazing beginners kit and will set you up for many more projects . But for crafters who have been doing it for longer i think they have most of the materials provided or an equivalent of it. But i definitely think pricewise its a solid starter pack.
Thanks Wouter! This seems to be what people think... a recognition of the amazing value but at the same time "I have this stuff already". The savings on items is unreal though...
That's an awesome build! Regarding value for money, I the whole box being fantastic for someone who's just starting out or wants to round out their workbench, but buying the tools over and over again feels of weird if there will be more kits in future. Do you know if the MDF kit will be available separately, maybe with some more of the materials? Interesting tip about wetting the build before the washes, will need to try that!
Yeah man, this seems to be the general consensus.... and understandable. Incredible kit for someone starting in to the craft and getting set up! Also, the wetting the project thing works really well! Especially with the balsa wood and plaster... not sure how it will work on other materials!
I see it as a long-term investment, considering the tools and some of the materials, especially the ones you can mostly get only in smaller amounts. You don't have to follow the instructions for the blacksmith, so you can save the contents for lots of other smaller projects.
Right on, Michael! Cool build! I think the kits would be great for someone just starting out. Also, since you liked the pastel pigments, consider trying a product called pan pastels. - Rick, USMC
@@Nat1videos I'm moving more and more to MDF instead of scratch building. The kits can then be pimped with XPS bricks, shingles etc to really make them shine
Been looking at a few kits like this, mostly for making gift type things but been apprehensive to actually go buy one! Feel fee to send me one to try and i'll give you feedback on the value. Off the bat this kit seems to be aimed at new starters to the hobby since it supplies everything inc tools to assemble and complete this kit, perhaps not the best value for people already in the hobby but potentially a good start for someone wanting to get started without the headache of buying every tool and scenery extras from scratch! P.s That breathing in your hand doesn't work! Lick the back of your hand a couple of times blow on it once then smell 😉
Lovely build mate and really enjoyed the painting technique. Definitely works when you are building with porous materials. Personally I would never buy a pack like this one. Which is a shame because even though there are a bunch of stuff I already own, there are also a bunch of things I don’t own and would like to try like those weathering powders and I guess I am missing out on that!
Thanks man! I hear you, the box isn't for every one... you can always get things like the pigment powders etc from standard craft stores if you are looking for individual items anyway! Really enjoyed your latest project too by the way ;)
Here's my two cents on this. Is it a rip off? Maybe. Even if the total value of everything that's in the set is "saving" you money you still get a lot of stuff seasoned builders and gamers already have and potentially do not want. (You said yourself except the saw and wire brush you had everything). So for most seasoned builders it's just "a lot of extra stuff you potentially" do not need. And if you are just starting 199USD + shipping & handling + import fees makes this a thing only for beginners with more disposable income than sense. I'd never suggest anybody to spend that much money in a "Leeeeeeeeroy Jenkins!" manoeuvre when they are just starting. When I first saw the kit a few weeks ago (can't remember where) I really liked the forge kit but sadly that's exclusive to this megabox. :S (And just as a hint on how much the box will cost you when importing it to Germany: 199USD + 20USD shipping and then add 20% VAT and import fees minimum. So 260USD. Potentially more because fees are hard to calculate and delivery services take another "handling fee" for filling out paperwork with customs. Which then adds another ~10USD. It's a nice gift potentially but I don't think it's a very good deal. But again: just my two cents.
haha yeah ! Shingles can be a pain in the butt, but the extra effort does pay off in the final look! Thanks for all of your input on the channel recently by the way, I have noticed you are working your way through my videos and I massively appreciate it :D Are you a member of the discord server?
