I agree with this. Learning layering is difficult for people with massive heatwaves and they are not ready for the winter condition. Also We have been developing our military almost 70 years so We definetly have better winter gear.
When comparing the camouflage and functionality in cold environment, OF COURSE our Finnish M05 gear is better in snow. Because it is designed exactly for the purpose. Generally speaking, the right personal gear is always a compromise. American troops are not expected to regularly operate in snowy terrain, at least not for long periods. Therefore it would not be practical to have those troops equipped with a full kit of the most fancy snow camo, which is only used very seldom, if at all. It is much better to have a relatively cheap, lightweight snow suit that can be packed in the backpack when not worn. You don't even have to wash it every week, not even every month. The more dirty it gets, the better camouflage in slush and dirty snow. Much more significant in cold enviroment is to know how to use your gear (no matter what kind of camo) in the right way. Covering the neck and head to prevent loss of heat, replacing wet socks with dry ones, and adding more layers when stationary, and removing layers for physical activity. Doing all these things too early rather than too late.
Thats because the army only has around two or three active arctic units and only one is in the regular army that being the 11th airborne division from alaska the other two are national guard units the soilders in the video are cavs from Germany
The Finnish winter camo seen in the video is a ''relatively cheap, lightweight snow suit that can be packed in the backpack when not worn''. Meant to just go over your normal gear. So many words but not much to say LOL
@@robottitopi8293 I just wanted to mention that the US snow suits are virtualy identical to Finnish ones used before M05. Funny thing is that AFAIK this is not an coincident.
Also its customary for many armies to use up older gear in training. Clothes do get worn and modern uniforms are far more than just bed sheet with fancy pattern on it, so if you got old stuff might just as well use it before you give them something more expensive.
This isn't an exactly fair comparison. 1/3 of the Finnish year is...winter. They have short Spring & Fall and long Winter's and Summers...so of course their winter gear is going to be superior to a Military that doesn't actually do a whole lot of winter training. I'd expect the Finns to be superior winter soldiers, just as I'd expect the Norwegians and Swedes to be... The real news of this is that US military is now training with the Finns on their own territory. I'd not expect a JournoList to understand the significance of that because we all know JournoList's are ignorant swine who only report what they are told to report and give an anti-US bias to anything they write.
Finnish camo is also specificly designed to work best in Finland. (They used AI to make the camo by providing it ton of pictures of Finnish nature). Americans tend to work more internationally. What ever they would try would never be as good as the local camo because every country is different.
Nothing wrong with few friendly jabs. I personally welcome U.S, British and onther international allies troops get proper winter training and we are happy to provide it.
As a Finn, I fully agree. This wasn't a fair comparison at all. These US troops probably wore skiis for the first time in their lives - and they did pretty good if you consider that. And that brother of ours who gave the show of Finns advancing on skiis.. well, he's experienced and I believe he was asked only to do a short sprint to show how it can be done. I can assure you, that's not the normal speed of our ski troops 😅 However, I think there are some things we can teach our new allies about arctic warfare - and I'm sure you'll have a lot you can teach us. After all, we've already have had mutual exercises for some time, so I think we both believe there are some things we can learn from each other.
the Finns will make one hell of an Allie. we have already had one war game with them when our paratroops parachuted right in on top of their HQ and didnt know it. they came out of the woodwork like cockroaches and defeated our paratroopers
I don't think that comparison is fair to Americans! They are not specifically equipped for arctic conditions. As long as there are warm clothes under that "Ku-Klux robe". The Finns will always fight in arctic conditions, that's why we have specially designed equipment for that. If someone from Arizona comes to practice arctic warfare for us, could we lend them our gear?
Not really a fair comparison, these are troops in training compared to veterans. The Yanks did pretty well in harsh conditions back in 1944, during the Battle of the bulge, without any proper winter gear.
Every Finn that's currently training is there for the purpose of training. Even those used in commercials. Service is obligatory and every man serves. And after the service everyone goes back to their civilian life. Both of these are troops in training.
I had those coverall whites when i did my national service in Finland 30 years ago. What you need to know is that when it's not a fully covered white winter you have thin white coveralls to use over your regular clothing. Could you imagine how much you would stand out if you moved to an area with no snow cover? Picture this , snow lasts so much longer in the forest and when to travel into a town already melted.

This is why you don't come knockin finnish doors during the winter. Summer is way different but it is really short. Finnish soldier is the only one in the world who can move faster in the snow than on plain summer plains.
Also, you cant compare US troops on skis to Finns. Ofcource we are way better, and half platoon could be towed behind Nasu or BV. Finns have skied from age around 5 to 6 years of age.
@kimmoj2570 British Marines and USMC are truly usefull and quite competent units for warfighting in high north, even depths of winter. After that they preferred to die in foxholes in minus 30 centigrade, not understanding that you lit fires to warm. Your own troops enemy does not move a weather Finnair flight.
Finns trained 20th Mountain Army for 3 years. They got quite competent. Its just history know. We could care less of the russian apologists state of Germany. Germany is willing to cross its all alliances with west to satisfy Putins demands.
I firmly believe in the military as an American and I for one, think the US and Finland should get better snow uniforms because JTF2 has the 💯 coolest, dopest, uniform you will EVER see and cannot be bested
I would suggest what many on here are saying. But what you are seeing here is a standard issue of winter gear that only comes out once and a while. The Finns are masters in their environment. On the other hand. The Units that are stationed in Alaskia are getting more advanced winter gear as we speak. it's finally all been updated. and a steep price.
Exactly,, as a finn, our camo is made for our enviroment. Comparing general units gear to special artic gear is not fair. Naturally units serving at the cold enviroments get gear for it
Those white coveralls will get grey in no time and camouflage just fine. Finns have a little bit more advantage at early fight but even our uniforms would turn greyish after a while in conflict. Both uniforms are effective for winter.
So true, mocking the U.S is silly as snow camo isnt really for mobile operations, sure its nice to have but the "basic" idea of having superior firepower and speed is the basics of special units, just as the finnish tend to operate. Hit and run are still the tactics most countries use. Uniforms nowdays more serve to identify invidituals
Finnish troops will fight primarily in Finland, and their gear is specifically adapted for that. America, well, we get to fight everywhere-and, a generic white over uniform will work equally as well in Finland, as it would in the Arctic, Russia, Alaska, the mountains of the mideast-essentially, anywhere there is snow. Remember, us Americans made a uniform camo pattern that worked disasterously, and cost millions. Because some civvy yahoo wanted a "one pattern for all terrain" idea. Shit doesnt work like that. So, snow camo overalls in all white, can work for any soldier, in any snow climate-and costs about $15 to make per soldier.

Having used both Finn and US kit here in Alaska I can tell you Finnish gear is far from the best. Its probably just as good as US kit but from item to item you can get junk and you can get something that works well..
Basic Finnish infantry kit is well quite basic, probably on par with US kits. Finnish winter kits are quite basic also. Thought now days quite many units get really modern kits. Buying and adding your own winter equipment makes huge difference.
Did you buy your "Finnish" gear on the net? Or actually in Finland? Net is Chinese copy BS. The gear we use in Finland is superb for winter warfare or even civilian outdoors working. Here in the Nordic we NEVER rely on internet BS shops but buy it directly from those who know what they are selling.
it is not. the AA has opted for a ceapo for as long as i have been alive... and I am a Finn. This is usuall superpowernation "spending cut thing.." they do not need the topshelf gear.. they will just make another "save private ryan" movie some years later and save a billion.

Why did they show up? Maybe they are trying to learn... I have seen the marine core try. they try hard. skis? It does take em couple of decades to try. but they do try. This video is not even the most "fail-armyish" of the muricans trying to manage the arctic.. plainly put: they would just die due the elements ETC. There is a reason, the "murican" volenteers, were not put to the frontlines within the winterwar. Nowadays a fair number of em equal to a finnish conscript because they try. And thats a fair bit of trying in my books. Unless you have a homestead in Alaska... Do not think you can "hack it" here. all the best~
US troops, like Russians, use snow parka over other uniform. Finnish first line units use dedicated winter uniform which does not need extra layer on top if it. Ofcourse Finnish uniform is better, but it is also expensive, and limited on its usage.
Also the usage of the finnish snow camo is far from limited on it's usage seeing how winter is the longest season in finland lasting a third of the whole year
Obviously the Finnish Army is more experienced in their own weather conditions than foreigners. But don't forget that 50% of the Finnish arsenal and equipment is U.S. made.

The Finnish camo doesn’t have enough mud stains on it, inaccurate
Totally stupid comparison 😬
it is not. the AA has opted for a ceapo for as long as i have been alive... and I am a Finn.
This is usuall superpowernation "spending cut thing.." they do not need the topshelf gear..
they will just make another "save private ryan" movie some years later and save a billion.
Well us army looks like it looks however you had one member of the marine core who worn other winter overwhites in winter marpat. As for finns, well they live in such environment that needs winter camo😅
Damn this vid was too harsh 😂
Check out US military Fat Camps.
Just a fact. It is scary to ponder.
The title of the video is cringe, the USA has other winter uniforms...
We got the idea from Russian WW2 !! 💪😁👍🇺🇲
let them leave alone with the russia , and we can finally figure out whose camo's is the best.
Any time. Russians can't invade even poor Ukraine.
Those hefty boys were in fact on earth baddest dudes. Simo Häyhä ring a bell?
I can put on this list many finnish commanders. Or just fat youngling and foreingers.
You might get this as "hate talk" but it is the true.
We should leave NATO.
Imagine having a functional optic on your rifle.
Now show the finish army in the desert
there is no need for us to go start wars built on lies
Why did they show up?
Maybe they are trying to learn...
I have seen the marine core try.
they try hard.
skis? It does take em couple of decades to try.
but they do try. This video is not even the most
"fail-armyish" of the muricans trying to manage the arctic..
plainly put: they would just die due the elements ETC.
You can compare the Finish army to LA Fire Dept. that would be a better comparison.
you sure seem to need it. (its not the size... it's how you use it.)
What?
US troops, like Russians, use snow parka over other uniform. Finnish first line units use dedicated winter uniform which does not need extra layer on top if it. Ofcourse Finnish uniform is better, but it is also expensive, and limited on its usage.
Actually, the snow camo m05 is a cover. The outer cover does not provide much insulation, so additional layers are necessary.
Also the usage of the finnish snow camo is far from limited on it's usage seeing how winter is the longest season in finland lasting a third of the whole year
@@Eetu.R SHHHHHHhhhhh!!
@@kornolex älä hyssyttele siinä
It is not so serious😉
Ok now make the Finns fight in afghanistan
They were fighting there.
yeah but all the finns know is snow😭
mr cool beans we have half a year of not winter we know other things than snow
American uniforms are obsolete just like most of their tactics. U.S. winter uniforms and gear are pathetic.
The fins are gay so it doesnt matter
Obviously the Finnish Army is more experienced in their own weather conditions than foreigners.
But don't forget that 50% of the Finnish arsenal and equipment is U.S. made.
where did you get this number from
@@rasmus5079 i want to know this figure aswell... last time i checkd that held true only on spending wise and thats just the F-35 and and the rocketlaunchers, missiles... what not.. its damn close....then again when majority of US peeps see Finnish F/A-18 they think its hand down legasy hornet.. when it is actually buit in here under a lisence.
What 50% would that be XD, is education illegal in USA?
I anticipated that the headline was going to be clickbate.
It wasn't 😂
lol U.S.A.!
Look at em little mericans learning to ski!!!
click bait

👍💎💎💎💎
Mum would send us to school in trash bags on rainy days
O.k., now show us the siberian 🤔 😏!!!
Finnish winter gear is still superior 😌
😅
🤣🤣🤣
Finland also has 0 combat experience. That fancy clothing dont mean a damn thing if you never experienced combat
Many of us soldiers have also never experienced combat, let alone winter combat. If you meant overall combat history of the country, then it's different. Our last war against russia was about 80 years ago
😂😂😂😂
hahahahashahaaa
lasten tarha nykysin
Kanon finland på dom bara 🖤♠️🖤♥️👿♥️⭐
These are not "Finnish Army" uniforms, they are uniforms that private soldiers bought
Military Times doesn’t know what overwhites are? Lmao
I think the point is that completely white color shines in snow making you easy target. Finnish uniforms are over layer too btw.
@@duhni4551 Oh I agree plain white isn’t the best. Guys will break up the white with some foliage patterns spray painted on. I couldn’t tell but definitely over layer is the way to go! Finnish gear seems to always be well made.
@@ToxicNova5 Has to be, we have all seasons here. The idea of overlayers was borrowed from USA btw =)
@@duhni4551 I only really know about your countries beauty and tough winter! But that is the best part about being allies, training together and learning from each others military.
@@ToxicNova5 No worries, it is not that serious 😄
Nah. Trash bags fit better.
What's with all this 🇺🇸 comparison crap? Envy much
They also only have to supply like 100 people for their whole army though
this but also the way they film the finns vs the americans makes the americans look goofy
Not true, Finland has an insanely big army, even bigger than that of the US (standing army) when all reservists are called up. They have a whooping 938,000 soldiers at full war-strength (active personel only 24,000 though)...
During a war we would have about 300,000 active soldiers
Our reseve consists of about 900,000 soldiers
We had 1.4 million standing military in 2022 with another 800,000 reserves @@xornxenophon3652
yep only 1 million😂😂 so tiny
The usmc is alone 4x larger than the finnish armed forces are put together. The other thing marines r sent all over the world and their gear reflects that practice, believe me if the us was fighting in near arctic conditions almost year round their mainstay uniforms would reflect that
How is usmc (180k) 4x larger than FDF (900k)?
I sometimes forget education is illegal in USA.
