It's been a lovely bonding thing to do with all the surviving family members getting together to go through everything and share it out evenly. Trying to piece together our history from old letters and stuff, because no-one puts names on anything! That bit was very frustrating. Anyway, we did have a lovely moment when I found a gold neck brooch in amongst the boxes of stuff, and it matched a photograph! So we now know that this brooch belonged to that lady. I adore those fake as hell 'spirits haunting pictures' portraits, they are so funny and yet romantic. Photography is always so fascinating, so many pictures have been around for centuries and are outlasting the models who posed for them. The tintype can last for so long, now your portrait can be around for centuries and a random archeologist can discover them and make wild hypothesis about why you posed with a clearly fake spirit XD
Canadian here. We say “bags” exactly the same way you do. Minnesotans, who admittedly are easily confused with Canadians say “bags” weird, but we do not!

It’s the French influence. We say it with two syllables and the -age is soft like the first word of Taj Mahal.

Love this! As a tintype photographer outta California I can say there’s definitely been some actual eerie experiences with spirits appearing in images. Was assisting a fellow Tintype artist on a shoot, and we took photos of a mother and her two daughters and there was a strange artifact on the picture that kept showing up no matter how many times we took it. So we asked the woman if there had been any sort of loss recently in her family and she had literally lost her husband a month prior. Super emotional and humbling experience.

Double exposure photography is super fun - if people ever get the chance to try out developing their photos in a darkroom you defo should! You can create some really cool stuff
I did that in college…it’s a dying art. A friend of mine took photography in college not that long ago and only a couple people used film and the dark room. Bummer.

I was especially impressed with this video and your research! My best friend is a living historian and she portrayed a female photographer from the 1800s. She used to do glass plate and tin type photography. And she is very well-known here in the southwest. I think she will be very interested in seeing this particular video. It might be hallow. I used to have a huge candlestick that looked similar to hers and it’s rather light with silver on the outside, but easy to carry.

I was especially impressed with this video and your research! My best friend is a living historian and she portrayed a female photographer from the 1800s. She used to do glass plate and tin type photography. And she is very well-known here in the southwest. I think she will be very interested in seeing this particular video. And maybe it will inspire and encourage her to do more vintage photography. Thanks for sharing. I can’t wait to see your next video.
