My father loved this song. He died less than a week ago 02/23/2024. I’m heart broken. I’m 46 crying like baby on the inside.

What a great song to add to the collection of songs that let you feel like your human even for a minute, Willie has that blues voice but when, when you think about how many will lose their lives today as tomorrow until the Day of Light comes you miss all of them and hope they just breathe on the the other side. Here it is May 9, 2020. The year of the Virus. Covid-19. People moving on to the other side. It is not only raining outside. It has snow flakes with it, unseasonal. An amazing year God has planned for us all. Listening to all the Nelson family music and many other groups music and songs... studying the bible, just being with God. Has made this year easier to live in. In uncertain times. The prophesized times.
I'm a HUGE Pearl Jam fan, been one since the 90's. I'm *very* critical of any PJ covers I hear and I have to say that Willie did an awesome job with this song. I love it just as much as the original. I'd love to hear Willie perform this with PJ.

Awesome Pearl Jam cover. Pearl Jam on their own is an excellent group but to hear this done by Willie gives a feel of Johnny Cash covering Hurt. Just the right classic country guy doing it at the right time of his life. Bravo Willie.

Because this song was writen by Eddie Vedder. He's credited as the writer on Backspacer and he was on the radio talking about what inspired him to write the song.
That would be how we know it wasn't someone else's lyrics. Fan or not of Pearl Jam, Eddie Vedder is one heck of a song writer and has written songs not only for his band and solo carriers but has written and contributed to songs by other artists.

one thing i love about Willie's version is that he has his son fill that 20 second gap in the song, that pearl jam leaves blank, with a guitar solo. God bless good ole willie.

Tune, instrumentation and performative expression are beautifully married to the lyrics. I don't quite have the language, but there's an almost onomatopoeic resonance, particularly when he sings "Just breathe".

Heard this on the radio last night. The second voice in the song is Willie's son. He sounds like a younger version of his father. I loved this when I heard it by Pearl Jam and now I love it even more.

Those slight word choices change the overall tone of the song a bit which is really interesting.

Great songs transcends genres & time. Only time will tell how great this song will become. I prefer Pearl Jam's version. This song reminds me of my father. I was there for my dad's last breath.
