I appreciate you doing all these compare and contrast videos. I'm not *that* much of a completest, so having the "best" small versions of every classic arcade game is paramount for me. As always, I'm a very satisfied viewer :)
The speaker in the Micro Arcade is a flat speaker, like inside a digital watch. Designed for alarm beeping. To keep it thin. So it's no surprise the sound is not good.
@@GenXGrownUp Also, Nintendo's Mario and Zelda Anniversary Game and Watches are similar size and form factor and they sound much better. They were also limited releases and way more expensive, but that's just because Nintendo can get away with using their name to charge you more than the thing is actually worth.
The light up marquee and cabinet graphics make the tiny arcade a nice collectible. The attention given to sound and gameplay is equally impressive. You can hang it from your car rearview mirror. Lol.
@@darrellr267 Kids and young people in Japan have been using things like the tiny arcade as fashion accessories for years. The more I think about it, is it possible the clip is not made for keys?
I got a one of the Micro Pacmans from the Gamestop clearance bin. Honestly for what it is, it's fine. Dont really wanna play for more than 10 minutes at a time, but its impressive that there's a color backlit screen. For what they are, its alright.
Don't forget you also reviewed the Super Impulse Cracker Barrel exclusive Tabletop version of this as well. And just in case it matters for search results, I wanted to let you know that across your channel, Pac-Man is spelled both with and without a hyphen in video titles somewhat randomly.
Right. We found that certain spellings trend higher than others, so we do experimentation with that. 😀 Some "Pac-Man" and others "PacMan" -- I hate that the latter is wrong, but it has better searchability.
I found a micro pacman that I was able to try out at walgreens, the horrible sound was the first thing I noticed. I wouldn't mind playing with the sound off if it controls well
Hey Jon, another great video, I'm not defending the sound on the micro, but I can tell you that has to be a piezo style buzzer that they are forcing pwm sound through. I've built some raspberry pi portables and when I tried to use the piezo buzzers as speakers I got that same sound. Even a small speaker, will need an amp circuit and physically more room than that micro has. It's a pity, but I can see why they did what they did. A bad choice, but I can see why they did that. As Scotty would say, 'Ye canna change the laws of physics Cap'n!'
Hey, Stew -- don't try to confuse the issue with facts! If the little speaker on the bottom edge of my phone can play Bohemian Rhapsody in all its glory, you can find a speaker that fits in this size unit that doesn't sound like a train wreck! 😜
You're likely right. But we know small speakers can generate better sound. Just look at how nice even a 5-year-old cell phone sounds with a tiny speaker.
I like the tiny arcades mostly for the look of a arcade cabinet. I bought the Galazian, and Galaga ones for 12.88 each at Walmart. I hear Cracker Barrel sells a exculsive one that has Ms Pacman, and Galaga on the same tiny cabinet. Big points for the light up marquee. I have plenty of the my arcade cabinets, and two 3/4 size 1up arcade cabinets, and they don't light up.
Thanks for giving me a pass on this one. I re-shot several times when I caught myself, but during editing I heard all the ones where I _didn't_ catch myself. I figured an apology/explanation would garner me a little understanding. 😀
Saved me some money. Thanks 😊 I picked the Tetris version and was looking into expanding the collection. I'll pass on the Pacman. Now on to watch more of your reviews. Thanks again.
3 things. 1. Before I watched this video, I for sure figured I'd want the micro one just due to its smaller size. After video, Holy hell I can't stand it. And I'm really impressed with the tiny/mini arcade. If I find it for $10, I think for sure I'm gonna grab it. 2. I'm glad us distinguished adults don't need manuals haha. I'd rather learn by trial and error, even if I reach the point of wanting to tear my hair out. 3. Is pacman your favorite game? Have you tried the pacman champion editions on ps4/xbox/Nintendo switch? It puts a pretty interesting spin on the game. I think I prefer the simplicity of the originals though.
1. Me too, ghenold. Me too. 2. Damn straight! 3. It's not my favorite, but I like it. Definitely played all the remix/champion/etc. versions -- fun twists. 4. Thanks for watching!
Cracker Barrel first started selling these tiny arcades for about 20 dollars, but Walmart has them for 12.88. I picked up the Galaga, and Galazian ones.
im curious to see a review of the tiny table top pac man. It looks cool! That micro pacman should have been yellow plastic...im not into that clear plastic look at all...even the sound is aweful
Hey, Robd, I've reviewed lots of table-top Pac-Man units on the channel. I bet if you browse our other videos you just might find what you're looking for.
I wonder which of these was released 1st? If the Micro was 1st it could explain why they got the sound right with the Tiny. Since this is a version 1 Micro, maybe they fixed things with a version 2? Also, did that Micro case really say "Authentic Sounds"? WTF
I can't find authoritative evidence, but I'm pretty sure the Tiny Arcades were released in advance of the Micros. Which makes it all the more baffling!
And I thought the sounds on the 2600 port of the game were bad. But that Micro Arcade version is just flat out terrible. So terrible in fact that it makes the aforementiond 2600 port sound decent in comparison...

Not a bad idea, Denis.
I would say kids can hang it on their back packs, but I don't think kids are into Retro games.

No, I wouldn't recommend trying to sleep to it.
Either I’m getting the my arcade Pac-Man, or this tiny pacman
Since it has the NES port, the My Arcade is probably the more playable of the two, but you can't beat the Tiny Arcade for portability!
