Hello. I just received my ATEM Mini a couple of days ago. Love it! and the reason I bought it is that I have an old Tricaster Broadcast and I attached a DVI to HDMI cable from the second output of the Tricaster into the ATEM Mini. It works like a charm. Now I can use my older gear and cams (3CCD) and have the ATEM Mini Upscale the signal, then out to the Laptop for streaming.

Fantastic device! I purchased the $1000 Blackmagic ATEM switcher for a church a few years ago and they would have really benefited from a physical device so it's nice to see this especially under $300.

This is extremely cheap for the product category, and seems to be a step above what the competition can do right now, but at the same time I feel it doesn't quite hit everything as a generalist type of device to cover what most people want in an all in one physical panel system for livestreaming - though it almost gets there.
It's basically a push button panel. Somewhere in between an Elgato Stream Deck and smaller professional video mixers, which usually goes above the thousand buck price, like the Roland.
Since it does take audio, I feel it should have level monitoring there, and levels or dials/knobs for volume control. But obviously, that would up the price substantially.
One way or another, it's a pretty impressive kit for the price.

I will probably be getting this device, but really I can't wait for the update of the ATEM Mini. Maybe with audio monitoring and an actual multiview, that thing will be the defacto for any livestreamer.

Yes at 23.50 you say the magic words. My biggest problem is that editing and syncing takes so much time. In fact it takes way more time then the live recording/broadcasting. I want to change to "live-editing" to prevent (most of the) editing afterwards. My goal will be to get so good at live switching that I do not have to do post at all. I am not a youtuber. I record/broadcast live (sports) events. So I can put more time in live switching when I simultaneously have to man one camera and do the switching or put all my time in switching when I have manned cams or fixed cams. Thank you for another great video

    Great video Lon!
    Thanks for sharing this device.
Have you ever used any HDMI Matrixes?
Essentially just a HDMI switch, with more inputs and outputs.
I am planning a home theatre project for the coming year, and it will include (1) main screen, and (4) Auxiliary screens.
I have been doing some research, and have been looking at an 8x8 matrix. Mostly these products are used for sports bars, or in a more commercial setting.
Was just curious if you’ve used them, or if you have ever considered reviewing them.
They are expensive products, with few details available about reviews and performance.
    Thanks again
Happy Holidays to you and your family!

Installed a generic 4 in 4 out hdmi matrix at a local embassy for Zoom meetings, so that they could switch outputs to different monitors. depending on how they were configuring the room. Cost around US$170, simple switching with remote controller. Saved unplugging and plugging cables.
Also have a Kramer 8 in 8 out for larger meetings, with EDID and memory facilities, enabling for example 4 hdmi inputs to go to two separate switchers. That was around US$3,000.

What is the best camera to use with the ATEM Mini Pro?
I was looking at these 4 cameras
    1) Canon-EOS Rebel T7 DSLR Video Two Lens Kit with EF-S 18-55mm and EF 75-300 Lenes $449.99
    2) Canon - EOS M50 Mirrorless Camera with EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM Zoom Lens Video Creator Kit - Black $549.99
    3) Canon - EOS M50 Mirrorless Camera with EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM Zoom Lens - Black $499.99
    4) Canon - EOS Rebel T6 DSLR Two Lens Kit with EF-S 18-55mm IS II and EF 75-300mm III lens - Black $429.99
Which one of the above camera is best?
    Or
Can you recommend the best inexpensive camera? (in a low price range from those above )
I think I need to use at least 3 cameras for cooking; 1 for overhead, 1 of over the stove and the mean one for direct in front.
Can you please give me any suggestion?
This is my very first time in doing cooking video to stream and it would be a one man show.
    Thank you very much

Will it sell very well? its sold out everywhere!! I think with this and 4 field monitors on the inputs and one on the HDMI as preview in a road case , then monitoring live output on your laptop via USB to stream/record, you could make a pretty good, cheap portable studio.. Yeah the multi view on the full ATEM is great, I'm sure they eliminated that just to keep there higher end products in demand still.. but its amazing what you could do with this sub $300 device. I love BlackMagic stuff.. been using them for almost a decade.. my latest buy was the BMPCC 4k.. for the money you cant get better. well maybe the BMPCC 6k?

Edit: I just found that Atem updated the firmware and software and you can now delay the mic inputs. This will solve the problem I ask about here. ... Great video but watching it bring me to the following sound question. When I use multiple camera's and a separate audio input, the chance that audio will be slighty of, is getting bigger. In OBS I can synch it all again by slowing the sound. Usually hdmi from camera's or capture devices slow everything down and then the sound comes too early. I see in this video that only your main camera footage is in sync. The rest is slightly of. How should we fix this in Atem?

Love your reviews Lon! I have been using Zoom lately to create PodCasts with remote guests. All of these projects are recorded and then edited with Premiere CC. I have been asked if I could do something similar 'live'. I have a Sling Studio which can have multiple sources as you know and I am not limited to just cameras/devices which are on the same network. If I used Zoom on a computer, I could connect this to the ATEM mini and send the output downstream to Sling Studio, I Believe! I also use a Rode PodCaster for all audio that I love. I am just not sure if I have multiple computers and output HDMI to the ATEM mini if I could create a side by side mask in Sling.
You thoughts? I have found so many people interested to use technology creatively since the COVID situation

Is it possible to take the feed from the focusrite and put it into the 3.5mm audio input? I also have a Tascam recorder which has line out. Alternatively I guess I could feed the audio into the camera and then pick up audio through HDMI. What would you recommend? Thanks!

For using a mirrorless/DSLR camera in 1080p mode at 30fps to do Zoom conferences: Do you know how the video quality of the Blackmagic ATEM Mini compares to the Magewell Capture HDMI Gen 12 and/or the Elgato Cam Link? If I want to minimize latency, am I better off getting an internal computer card like the Magewell Pro Capture HDMI Card? I heard complaints about certain capture cards that use some form of jpeg compression that reduces the video image quality. Does that really matter? Does a device using USB 2.0 vs USB 3.0 make any difference in latency? (I know the Blackmagic ATEM Mini is a switcher with extra features, but at this temporary point, I'm just trying to understand differences in latency and video quality for each device using 1 mirrorless/DSLR camera.) Thanks.

Your video is great! Thanks a lot! Maybe this is too basic, but what do I need in order to connect my webcam USB port as an HDMI input to Blackmagic ATEM Mini? Thanks

Our church recently purchased the ATEM mini.We have two cameras and a single audio source directly from the sound mixer. On the Mini,do I use the ON position for both cameras audio? Or would camera 1 be On and camera 2 would be AFV? ( audio follow video )We thank you for your help.God bless.

If you're using only your sound board I would leave the camera audio off.

@@LonSeidman Thank you Lon-The audio feed from the sound mixer will go directly into Mic 1 of the ATEM switcher.

Lon, thank you very much. Great review, even for a newbie to this type device! I’m looking at doing some online classes using Zoom since, during this $#@! Pandemic, I can’t meet students face-to-face. I’m looking for a way to use my Panasonic GX85 camera as one input source (along with IOS devices) to get good resolution on my work area. This device is overkill for what I want to do but looks like a very versatile solution should I decide to do more in the future. Would I be able to connect my camera via HDMI In and send it to Zoom on my type C MBP laptop or, perhaps, even my 12.9 iPad Pro? And could I plug in a wired lav mic into one of the mic inputs so that would be the audio sent to Zoom? I have been looking at the Blackmagic Ultra Studio mini recorder, the Elgato Cam Link, and the Magewell USB Capture HDMI unit. The latter is in same price range as the ATEM Mini which has way more features.

Yes on the camera, not sure about the iOS devices but I'd imagine with the HDMI adapers it should work. Unfortunately I couldn't get the switcher to send video to an iPad. But it will work with the PC via USB-C. Best way to look at this is as a Camlink with a switcher attached :)

Lon.TV, thank you for quick response. I’m thinking this unit may still be the best investment since it has so many features. Even if iPhone or iPad can’t feed through it using HDMI cable/adapter it would still allow me to pull in Keynote slides through one port, video from my GX85 camera and some others. You didn’t comment on mic. If I plug in a wired lav mic, will that audio feed into my MBP?

Lon, learned from Photo Joseph video (ua-cam.com/video/5W5xiaEhK9M/v-deo.html) that mics plugged into either input port aren’t delayed as video is so audio may appear out of sync in outputted video.
