I almost bought a Yamaha Niken for it's _advanced technology_ but my Yamaha dealer said they are not ordering them & I would have to special order a Niken if I wanted it. What this realistically means to us motorcycle buyers is a *WARNING:* 1. The Niken is so new & so few out there the dealer's mechanics will not be the best at working on them. *_That means be prepared for goof ups._* 2. It has been a year since Niken motorcycles were available and I have yet to see one in the wild on the streets of NC USA. *_That means they are not popular._* 3. An unpopular bike is hard to find used &/or cheaper parts (you will pay full price) and an unpopular bike will be harder to sell unless you drop your price big time. 4. The Niken being unpopular will have fewer accessories and 3rd party parts for it. 5. This bike is a gas hog with that known to be gas guzzler MT 09 engine & 3 contact points. With electric bikes becoming thing soon the days are numbered for this type of bike (IMO). So, I am happy not to have bought the Yamaha Niken and in two to three years will buy a gas free low, low maintenance NIU, Zero motorcycle, or similar EV motorcycle. Some things to think on.
I will pin your comment. I agree with most of what you're saying. I too, have never seen one "in the wild" nor have I seen one being sold on the used market. I asked a dealer if they had any sold and I got that: "uhm... sure... I've sold... a few" look/talk. i.e.... not too many I guess. It's an expensive MT09 + an extra wheel really. and you have to have a motorcycle license for it. Other bikes in Sweden that has 3 wheels you can ride with only have a car license. Maybe if this would be included in that category then it might sell better. EV bikes are coming more and more but they still lack of decent range, works for riding in city / work etc but not for longer rides really. and still too pricey for the "normal market". It will probably take 5-10 years before they are decent enough to be worth buying and using (and cheaper) but I think gas motorcycles will still live on and being produced for quite some time to come, despite the world moving more and more into the EV market. I have test ridden a few Zero's and wouldn't mind having one, but not for the current price tag/range. Thanks for watching my video and sharing your opinion about the Niken! 👍👌
@@Darkvisor I bought the first one in the entire latin America. and i love the motorcycle. when i bought it i knew what i was getting into , unless i crash it i will not need parts except oil filter, fuel filter and tires. I also knew about the fuel consumption and honestly is not bad at all. buying a motorcycle is like finding a woman ...depends what you want if you want a beautiful exotic woman that not everyone can have ... it will cost you , those women are "high maintenance" if you want a woman who will not cost you much , will be happy with eating at taco bell is a personal choice. i love technology and exotic motorcycles .
Scheiß drauf was andere sagen...
I have one and i like it. I have just clocked 30,00 kms on it in the year an five months I've had it. Servicing it has been no issue. I know of one other and ridden with him and had the amusing experience of passing one going the other direction on a club ride. The "Tail End Charlie" was a little puzzled as he only knew of mine and thought I had turned around for some reason. I ride mostly in the Dandenong Ranges in Victoria, Australia and there are many roads that are sign posted "Motorcycle Hazard" due to the amount of tree litter and dampness. There is a certain degree for security I get riding my Niken in those hills that I don't feel on my other bike. Added bonus, owning one puts you in a very exclusive club that you don't need to be a snob to join.
I'm happy to get a comment from an owner of the Niken. I'm happy that you enjoys it. Nothing wrong with the bike really and it feels very safe on the road. Thank you for watching Reece! Have a great day =)
What a beast 🔥🔥🔥 First Niken Test Ride video i've ever seen to be honest, but unfortunately it's not available in Indonesia, only Yamaha Tricity instead. Nice vid DV! Keep safe! (I still scared when you do brake test, I always see the mirror when you do it)
Yeah it's a cool bike. Ah I'm happy that I could make it and show you then =) Thanks for watching Gaz, keep safe! (I always make sure there's no one behind me before I do my brake tests)
Your demonstration of things you can do with your hands while using cruise control was the funniest thing I have seen on any bike road test EVER!!! To answer your question, having done genuinely thousands of miles on one of my world trips on a bike with cruise control I only used it once as found I was losing concentration and relaxing dangerously, so personally I think it is a bad option. Your excellent test drive answered a lot of queries I had about what they were like to ride. I cannot see the advantage of it over a conventional bike, it costs far more and front wheel maintenance including tyres will cost twice as much, its ugly as hell IMHO and I couldn't put up with all my mates laughing at me on one!
Hehe I'm happy to know that I entertained you =) I love cruise control. I used it all the time when I had my Yamaha MT10. Well not when riding on twisty roads or in city traffic but when going from point A to B it was very nice. Guess it's a "love or hate it" thing... Thank you for the nice words. I'm happy that my test ride enlightened you. Yeah it isn't that nice to look at really and way too pricey. Thanks for watching Paul
Hey man. Nice to see you comment. It's been a while! =) Yeah the 3 cylinder sound is nice. Personally I find the humming of an inline 4 even better.... Front wheel drive motorcycles.... I instantly thought of Can-Am Spyder but I had to google if they use rear or front wheel drive and turns out it's rear.... strange! hehe. Thanks for watching!
