I’m a car driver got one just over a year ago I have zero motorcycle experience but have ridden scooters on holiday occasionally. To be honest I was crapping it on first outing. Started off little trips to large car parks preferably empty doing various manoeuvres. First thing you notice is how big it is slow turning is scary at first lean too much at slow speeds it will fall. Stand assist is great when parking up I have learned to not use it when stopping at junctions etc. Done about 5 k miles on it now occasional trips to work and several outings to the Scottish Borders County Durham North Yorkshire and Northumberland, fantastic roads and it does put a big smile on my face. Ps not dropped it yet and I’m a 60 year old 5 foot 9 skinny lad.
I've been riding motorcycles since 1967 and never gave scooters a second thought until the Tricity 125 showed up in 2014. I bought one and discovered the simple joy of twist & go plus the extra confidence around a corner. I also appreciate the small displacement engine because I can run at full throttle 80-90% of the time and not kill myself. It's a different level of fun. It opened up a whole new riding experience for me and six years later I'm still enjoying it.
For someone that has never ridden a bike, I’m seriously thinking about getting to Tricity 300. I can also ride it on my car licence. I’m guessing by your comment you would recommend it..?🤙
@@billzer9102 Yes, I can definitely recommend this type of ride and the 300 is even more practical if there are steep hills and wide open motorways where you plan to ride because of the extra power. I ride mine mostly to run errands in the city so extra power is not critical. I must add that it's not very comfortable when riddden continuously for longer periods ( more than 2 hours) due to its restrictive riding posture. There's no legroom to stretch and the 125's seat has a pronounced bump between the rider and pillion so you can't slide back either. The 300 looks roomier.
I have reached an age where balancing and pushing a heavy motorbike around in the garage or a car park sometimes gets a little out of balance and that is scary because if it falls I'm not sure I have the strength to pick it up. So coupled with the excellent braking and stability
the choice of three wheels became obvious for pushing the bike around in a confined area. I am what you might call a scenic rider. I like to keep up with the traffic and pass when necessary. I don't have a fascination with outright speed anymore as I did in the '60s just a nice comfortable safe ride and the Tricity gives me that secure ride feeling. As the author says it puts a smile on your face and that is something special when you consider the number of bikes I have ridden and owned in my 84 years. The key issue for me is the stand-alone system.
I am sure that would be a bonus for many females and older male riders.

I've watched many reviews on 3 wheelers and this is the most on point review of them all, and you're right many bikers are missing out. After years of driving riding and even quad biking these trikes offer all the fun and practical experience!

T-max based three wheeler is rumoured, which should be very interesting, but the price would be too much.
Dear Sir. I live in The Netherlands so my English is not perfect. I saw your review of the Tri City and listened good to you and I must say that your review is the best I have ever heard or seen concerning motor/ scooters. You have an open mind to the scooter which "real" motor riders see as rubbish. I had a lot of motor cycles and motorscooters and I love them both. And now I have bought a new Tri City and I am curious how much I will like/love it. I think he looks marvelous and the technic is fantastic. Very spacious seat. I always ride with my wife and one of the reasons to buy the Tri City is the fact that it can stay right up for stoplights and parking. Both issues for us. Thank you for posting this video it gives me a lot of comfort about my decision to trade my Burgman 650 for the Tri City. Next saturday I can pick him up! By the way; we love the greenish color..
They stopped making the greenish Tech Kamo colour, which was disappointing. I’m buying my machine in a new light sand colour, which looks ok in contrast to the black.

I love this technology. I hope manufacturers like Yamaha take it to the next level with aerodynamic aids, a free-standing mode on stops etc. Imagine a recumbent with car-type seating, digital display, cameras, radar, blind spot detection, anti-lock, partial body, glass canopy.I know, it's too expensive, it's a scooter, blah blah, blah
But it's fun to think outside the box. After witnessing a fully enclosed [aerodynamic shell ] recumbent bicycle being pedaled to 90 mph/144 kph [Battle Mountain, Nevada] on level ground unassisted, I said wow "we really are behind in motorcycle, scooter development".
Shouldn't we be able to manufacture a 2/3/4 wheeled scooter that is quieter, faster, safer, more comfortable, with fewer emissions that can go a lot further on its carbon fuel, battery, fuel cell, etc.?"I think so...

Thank you! I've been waiting for this review, and you didn't let me down. Mine is on order, but they tell me it won't be here (Slovenia) for weeks! The season is slipping by! When it does arrive I will break it in ASAP, then run directly to the Dolomites to ride the hell out of it, and very likely enjoy every minute on it! Everyone talks about the confidence the Ackerman system provides. They fail to mention how much more relaxed you become once you adjust to it. Uneven pavement, road debris, gravel, sand, wet pavement, train tracks, steel grid bridges, etc. don't cause you to stiffen in the saddle as much. You are not scanning the road constantly for potential traction robbing situations. If you've ridden before, you do know what to watch for, but you also learn that with those two front wheels you do have less to be concerned about. The extra bit of relaxation leaves you more able to enjoy the ride much more! I've done the Dolomites on the Tracer 700 and loved it, but I'm getting older now. Not as flexible, so I expect the Tricity to give me much more comfort on the road. If Yamaha could put the CP2 engine in this.......well.....that might be one totally incredible piece of machinery!!! But, as is, Iv'e loved the rides on the Test Bike, and fully expect that I will love mine when it finally arrives! I do wish it had just a bit more horsepower for highway passing. And...a glove box would be very nice! Not sure how I will use the power outlet without some safe place to hide the phone while it's charging. I'd like to add that this bike is not only for uninitiated riders. I've ridden for many years, from Honda 90cc bikes, to Goldwings, other sports cruisers, and several scooters including the Burgman 650. And I love the road feel of the Tricity 300! The first shipment of Tricity 300's arrived in Slovenia in early June, and sold out very quickly. Yamaha, please hurry up with that second shipment!
Good points on relaxation. It is a problem when switching back to two wheels - you take your relaxed three wheel habits with you

@@stonemarten1400 My goal was to take it into the Dolomites this year, but I've been thwarted by my aging body. I'm 70, and had spinal fusion surgery two years ago. Unfortunately, as I've gotten older I've also gotten a little weaker. Drop this thing and it's difficult to get it up again when you are alone. Sadly, I had that experience. After some long soul searching I decided it was time for me to let it go. Sold it. Yes, riding the mountains of Northern Italy and Slovenia was a fantastic joy! I will miss the adventures I had on the Tricity and the Tracer 700. The 700 did take me thru the Dolomites the year before I got the Tricity. The 700 handled like a dream the entire way in and back!!! Both bikes were fine in the mountains, on highways and back roads. As the weather is warming now, I can already sense that I will miss riding this year.
@@rjo2020 thanks R Jo, that’s a bit of a shame, but I wish you all the best. I’m 54, so hopefully have a few more riding years ahead of me around the Borders and Highlands of Scotland. I’ll try hard not to drop the bike!
@@stonemarten1400 Yeah. I'm gonna miss it! But you.......miles to go before you sleep! At 54 I was still in the states on a Goldwing. Great for the roads there, but for here, it's kind of overkill. For here the Tricity was great! For your proposed uses....I believe you may be a very happy man! Cobblestones, wet or dry, you will float over them in the front. If they are smooth, you'll be fine in the back too. If they are irregular, you may feel the bounce of the back suspension, but not much more than most scooters. That front end eliminates a lot of the stability worries of irregular pavement, pot holes, cobble stone, train tracks, grooved pavement etc. You will ride with a calmer mind! It glides thru twisties nicely too! The only drawback I found with the bike was on open highways when I wanted to pass. Because of the weight and it's 300cc power plant I found that I had to plan overtakes carefully. Other than that one thing, it was superb! If I had designed it, I would have given it a 350 cc engine. Anyway, for your purposes I think you'll be very pleased with it. Oh, one more observation....the brake pedal.....I never used it, and never missed it.
I've got a mp3 300 and I've been riding motorcycles and Scooters for decades, but now I don't worry about diesel spills, wet manhole covers sliding on loose Gravel etc.

I owned a 2009 Piaggio MP3 500, put 27,000 miles on it. It was my get to work vehicle for 7 years. I also blew two sets of pistons on it during that time. I hope that it has Yamaha reliability built in.
Yamaha quality control is far better than most European and certainly Chinese scooters.
You'd be better off with Honda reliability.

I haven’t held a bike license for long but I think this will help some car drivers realise what riding a bike is all about. It will also let the older generation of bikers keep on going with the help of stability and that can only be a positive for the biking community.
Havent ridden since I was 23, I also have a full category A license, now my son wants to ride so dad is learning all over again and im seriously at age 58 considering one of these, I love old classics but im finding them a little to on the heavy side and im lacking confidence and this looks like a good option . I am also 6ft 3 inches tall with a 33 inch inside leg which limits my options on lots of bikes.

I had the 125 and I loved it. That front end gives you way more confidence. The only thing I wished for was better performance, but you can't complain for a 125 can you? A 300 can only be better. Oh and a manual or DCT version one day, so you don't have the dreary CVT.
You can fit a kit to these. A 190cc kit is available and along with lighter rollers it flies. Even a gear kit that deals with the lack of acceleration.
These are tuned for commuting remember. You need to change a few things to make it peppy.
50 yrs riding from 90cc to 1400cc back issues made me look at mp3 then picked up tricity 300 brilliant can't find anything bad about this machine yes agree didn't feel right with it till i had it a week took it for a 200 mile ride it is perfect for noth urban and twistys filters like any motorcycle i have had mirror to mirror its same with as mates vespa gts300
Great bike to ride , My other bike is a Harley Sportster . this is as much fun as that but with a front end that you can really push with confidence even in the very wet. drawback is the height of the step through. swopped from a tricity 155 with ease of mounting. this is a little difficult to mount with only 29" legs. seat height is higher than tricity 155, makes stops interesting. the locking front only comes in at below 3 kph. Much easier to push around into and out of garage. Wife found the rear footrests to low to reach, I have added footrest rubbers which help and at £4.50 a great fix. The extra power , up from 155cc to 300cc is great, riding the hills and dales of Derbyshire this bike is as much fun as the Harley. With a better front end and better weather protection the choice now is Yamaha or Harley for that short little ride. The Tricity 155 was bought to trailer behind a motorhome, to use when parked up on campsites around Europe, the 300 gives us the option to travel further afield from base. Yamaha why only one main key, £150 for second key is taking the p.

I keep seeing that it is approved for USA, but have not seen it anywhere. I am wondering if it will be. Also, I was trying to understand your explanation of the difference with the front end locking system vs the Piaggio MP3. We had done a tour in Italy on them for a week, a 400 cc and a 500 cc. I just loved it. I just wish the directionals were built into the body like on Suzuki Burgman 650. Great video!
They need to make something similar but with a lightweight removable full enclosure so it can be used year round and make it more aerodynamic. Tandem 2 seated and some removable storage cases (saddle bags) that can be attached to the full enclosure for road trips.
I wish someone would make something similar but with a fully enclosed lightweight, aerodynamic removable shell. Make it a tandem 2 seated with removable saddlebags/cases that mount to the sides. You could use it as a daily commuter in rain even light snow and get around 70 MPGs also make it capable of light off road using 50/50% street/dirt tires and adjustable suspension.

I got into biking 3 years ago looked at the mp3 being a car driver but heard some big horror stories dodgy electrics notchy front end etc. So just went and got my full bike licence instead and enjoy a middle weight naked bike

If they did a 500 version in Thailand, I'd buy one. My Aerox 155 is great for the city. And I have done 250,000 miles on conventional motorcycles.
Ever since my first look at these, I have yearned to own one. The only downside I can think of is, the added cost of tire replacement.
300cc's, great traction, especially in the wet and narrow enough to filter.
I'd prefer a manual gearbox, but I'll live with the CVT.
yup that roundabout 100yrds up the hill from Aldi past the 30mph speed camera is full of potholes it must the worst in the country, your a brave man on a bike.

After 1.5 years on this Trike Using it all year but not tested in snow I can say I am impressed. Sod town riding get straight on the motorway like I do 5 days a week 44 miles round trip from Chesterfield to Ilkeston in any lane. Who the hell stops a bike with just the front brake, this has ABS, Traction control and 85mpg. I get off it stick all my riding gear under the seat walk round town in my underwire if needed. A guy and his son on UA-cam has done 250 miles a day for 5 days on a Tricity 300 and an R3. Work this one out then. A PLC programmer put his laptop under the seat, traveled Chesterfield to Cardiff round trip and claimed £0.45 a mile and gets paid for the job that’s 345 x 0.45 = £156.60. 345/85=4 gallons = £24. 2 guys on 1 tricity 300 did over 80 miles per hour on UA-cam. Add the storage option what currier or call out can you make money from with it.
Pricey, but I'd love a go on it.

I think the T-max with its 560cc might indeed be a good 3rd option for people with a car license, and leave the Niken for the ones with a motorcycle license

Hi I am thinking of one of these or an MP3 500 or Peugeot Metropolis 400. Have you ride all three if so what's your verdict on which is better. I was looking at the 400 and 500 as they have more power but are they a lot quicker.

Anemal Kernow. Interesting review and agreed on the snobby biker comments but its good if can't ride any more this may be only option as been riding for 40 years plus love a go just to experience it. Now why does the Vid repeat it self three times. But 80 MPG bloody hell that's good and got my interests noted straight away. Shame don't do a geared version and lose the scooter in its title would attract more the snobby class for sure . Just feel like taking the front end off and put it on me FJ1200 130BHP as it weighs just as much and nice to have better braking power :-) Mal
What really wanna know is:
1. Can you filter through the traffic easily?
2. Can you carry a passenger if you hold only a "B" license?

I have a question if you are 6'3 in height like me would I fit properly on the bike or would I feel uncomfortable?
Would definitely have to paint the wheels Yamaha blue. I think with my deteriorating nerves in my spine this may be an answer. The unreliability of the MP3’s electronics is a major turn off for what they charge. Having had the opportunity to ride this it really does stay upright at stops which is something I could use. 2022 now and time to make a decision
They should have put that front locking system on the Nikken. Lots of geezers like myself would have thrown our money at it. It can't be that difficult to add on for the next iteration?
I would like to add.....more color would be very nice! The fit and finish of the Tricity 300 appears to be Top Line. The seat is very comfortable, as is the entire ergonomic layout of the bike. I am 5' 6" and I found it very comfortable, with room to move my legs and feet around while riding. The stock windscreen....a bit too short for me. I got wind buffeting around my helmet, which I do not enjoy. I will put a taller screen on it. The display is easy to read and clear. Now this may seem odd to other bikers, but I love the front fairing and placement of the handlebars. Excellent weather protection! I've owned and ridden the X-max 250 and 400. Both were good scooters, but with the high seat placement Yamaha often uses, I found my self looking down over the front end of those scooters while seated so high that I felt that I was almost hovering above the bikes. Disconcerting on high mountain curves and hairpins. The Tricity 300 set up feels more right, secure, enveloping the rider to a degree. I didn't have the feeling that I could so easily fly over the front end in a hard stop. Overall, on the flat roads, on the highways, in the mountains, and everywhere else, the Tricity felt stable, solid, well planted even in strong cross winds, easy to manage, smooth as butter, and was a joy to ride. Still, I do wish it had more horsepower for quicker highway passing. The price? Yes, relatively high for a 300 cc scooter, but that front end may prove worth it in the long run. That remains to be seen. The extra comfort and security of the two front wheels changes the riding experience significantly to something much more relaxing, even at 88 MPH. Another bonus for me in this region....I often encounter dirt, grass/gravel trails or farm type roads I'd like to explore a little. I could do it, to a degree on the T-Max and X-Max scooters, but very carefully, gently, fearing I'd lose the front end traction. On the Tricity 300, I believe I will feel less hesitant to explore the back roads, and should be able to see more of this countryside. Expanded range!

@@Honda_Jakarta_Barat At 3,000 Kilometers it is as advertised. It depends on how your ride, but I have found it to be as advertised.
Could you use the machine over some roughish, gravel tracks and a bit of mud, or is it way too heavy for light off-road use.
@@stonemarten1400 Hello! Yes it was a decent light off-roader for me. I used it on gravel tracks periodically in Slovenia. Farm and logging roads of well compressed dirt were also ridden with no difficulties. I never tried it on deep mud. It's a scooter, so I did not seek out mud tracks. IF I had encountered any while exploring, I would have avoided deep mud or loosely packed sand more than 2 inches deep. The stock tires handled everything very well. The suspension responded very well in these varied conditions.
@@rjo2020 thanks R Jo, I was thinking about some of the rough gravel and stone tracks we have here in Scotland, as I will be looking for a place a little off the main roads for wild, motorbike camping. I’ll be trying to avoid deep mud and sand. Love Slovenia, must have been great to ride around the mountain meadows - beautiful. You no longer have the machine though?

As a review of a bike, I would have expected to hear about three things that matter.
1. Filtering. Will it?
2. Real world fuel economy.
3. How it changes with a pillion on it.

500 cc would sound more atractive to former riders that no longer can use a motorcycle. 27hp for 240kg is not enough.
Had one on order suppost to be at the bike shop today got a call from the shop and said that's the date has being pushed back for another four weeks 😢😭

I placed a UK order end of march 2021 , still waiting , but been told this week that they are are due to arrive first week in September , I was on the point of cancelling but another 2 or 3 weeks wont make much difference now plus it will give the bike a new 71 reg plate lol , are you still waiting or given up ?

I bought my used Forza 300 for just over half the price of this trike and I still think it's far more practical over whatever benefits 3 wheels may give.
@@Domn879 good point! For me I think its worth getting a bike license though, sort of the start of subscribing to bike life and the learning of all that it entails. But yes there is a cost to get the license.
A great explanation of a fascinating machine. I have always pronounced the Tri in Tri-city as in triangle, try not tree. Is your English pronunciation the “Yamaha correct” pronunciation? Tree-city as in three city? A full set of specifications at the end of the video that we could screen save would be fantastic. Not in the information below, mobiles, iPads and Tablets don’t include the extra computer information. In Thailand the speed limit is 90 kph, or 56 mph, in Australia 100kph and sometimes 110kph, or 62mph and 68 mph. I find 150cc quite powerful and adequate in Thailand. 250cc is the maximum power a learner or probationary ride can operate in Australia. Comments that people must have 500cc seem to suggest somebody needs extra help to prove their adequacy.😜 i like a slow and easy ride, i like to make it last. 😊 enjoy the ride.l

Watching this for the second time. I'm surprised it feels quick as it's so heavy. 239 kg is heavy. I realise it's easy to push around. Anyway, it isn't available in Thailand. At least, I don't think it is.

I've had the xmax300 and it was a fantastic commuter scooter with lots of storage. The only problem i had was the shitty brakes and backaches after riding for a while. Since you've mentioned it has similar ergonomics as a xmax300, will that backache happen again?
Hopefully Yamaha will build one with a Larger Engine that would Run Easily on the Freeway...

Bikers won't give this a go, because it is so expensive for a 300cc scooter, even with a third wheel. This is almost 8k, whereas you can get the normal scooter equivalent for under 6k.

Yes, you dont need to put your feet down when you come to a stop as it can self balance. But not sure if this will be available in India
No way! it's like a normal bike in the leaning. So, you have to be a guru of locking system to manage driving it without putting the feet on the ground when you stop
You talk about the best 3 wheel scooter you have ridden. But it seems, you have only ridden a MP3. So this does not mean a lot, there are more competitors .

I have just put a deposit on a 125 version for my wife, and when our car is paid for I am getting a 300 version. This is most unlike me!!!
