Good review, with a couple of corrections: the Vulcan 900 Custom does not have an underslung/underframe exhaust, and the Ergo Fit system for moving the footpegs and controls is a feature of the Vulcan S 650. You also mention that it has dual channel ABS, then later mention that ABS is unavailable on the bike. To my knowledge, it’s not yet available on the Vulcan 900 line, which is a glaring omission, considering it’s available on the cheaper, smaller Vulcan S, and the new Eliminator. The Honda Shadow 750 has available ABS, which should be standard on midsize cruisers in 2023. I got my 2008 Vulcan 900 Classic used, in 2020, with about 10k miles on it. Thanks for the video.

Many people don't want anything on their bikes that assist via ECU, they want complete control all the time.

Bought my 2009 900 LT 4 months ago, still loving it. Cut the silencers straight off, its loud but deffinetly feels more power, its pulls harder and for longer. Love how the bike has basicly no vibrations, smooth ride all the way. Went on a few fishing trips and loved it

    This is my first bike.
    Bought it this year.
It’s 2009 though but still the same bike.
At first I was missing a tach and gear indicator but now used to it.
Yes 6th gear is a must.
I’ll ride it till I get used to two wheels.
    Very forgiving motorcycle.
But at some point will definitely get something more powerful. Not a sport bike, cruiser or touring, but definitely something faster. 50hp and 5 gears is not enough
The best thing I love about this bike is a price Haha!
Bought one for $2000 with only 800 miles.

      09 as well.
I did the pully conversion after my first year of ownership.
It made quite a difference at highway speeds, and I didn't really notice anything being less in the bottom end.

      The bike will do 110mph.
50? You can hit 50 in 2nd gear, but shift immediately. Lol, but it will do it.
I do 75-80mph daily, you just have to get used to understanding that you're not hurting the bike at all.
Hold her at 80 for 50 miles and you won't think a thing about it anymore.

I love the way you actually show interior images of the engine so we can get a better perspective. My Ninja 400 has the sixth speed so I would miss that but as a novice rider, I probably won't be able to really analyze 5 vs 6 until I get more experience under my belt. I also like that you are comparing all three models.

Actualy, it are 2 models. Classic and Custom. Spoked rims vs alloy, 16" vs 21", floorboards vs pegs, beach bar vs T bar fork covers vs naked 7" vs 5 3/4" headlight, different fenders. All the rest is 100% similar.

I've owned many motorcycles and rode many others. The one thing that makes a Kawasaki stand out for me it the comfort. I will not put down any other brand because all the Japanese manufactures make excellent bikes, although I personally like Yamahas the least. (I had a lot of trouble with every one of the Yamahas I've owned) One of the most confortable bikes I've ever owned was a Susuki Intruder 1500LC. The Kawasaki Vulcan 900 is as close to my ols Suzuki as you can buy today. Just a little smaller, it is about 50 pounds lighter and the engine is a little smaller, but the power output feels about the same. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with a Kawasaki, they are durable, reliable and confortable. What else could you want?

It needs a sixth gear just like the VN800 which it replaced and no ABS. That's it. In every other way it is a perfect laid back easy to ride motorcycle. It is quiet with predictable roll on power at low to mid RPMs and it can rev a little too, because it's a kawasaki. IT IS NOT a beginners bike. It has a wheel base longer than a Harley road king and is over 8 feet long. It's light weight at 650lbs for the LT version compared to 800lbs and up for bigger motored bikes of the same size. The 900 is a great handling bike at any pace and you can push it at speed too if you don't cheap out on tires. It has more suspension travel front and rear than many bikes which is nice on country and secondary roads where this bike is at its best. Your left foot will be forever looking for a sixth gear at 63 MPH that never was. The vibration sets in at 65 and is unbearable near 80 for a cruiser. If you just want to ride around in the country or even the city this is a comfortable friendly motorcycle with plenty of punch and is OK for short highway jaunts. One great motorcycle.

I agree 100%. I've owned my Vulcan 900 Classic since they came out in 2006 and it is a fantastic bike for backroad cruising. As you said, it really needs a 6th gear for the highway since it isn't that enjoyable when you are riding around 65mph for a long period of time. I love the Vulcan though, since you can have an enjoyable ride on the backroad and still stay within the speed limits (mostly :-)). unlike most sports bikes which you need to speed to get any enjoyment out of the bike.

Its a great motorcycle. Most of the criticism s on here are just nit picking but I have to grudgingly admit a 6 th gear would make this beautiful bike a bit more highway friendly.I put vibration dampening grips on mine so its not too bad past 70 mph

    • @johnmydosh1694
      @johnmydosh1694 Рік тому

No Nick picking. The Vulcan 900 is not comfortable over 65 MPH! I don't care if you have vibration canceling shorts, no good.

    • @pcthayer
      @pcthayer Рік тому

@@marcmaschal2897 Unfortunately I doubt if they will be doing any upgrades that substantial like a 6 speed on these models. It seems all the midsized Japanese cruisers are a dying breed. Things like the Vulcan S and Rebels (who have 6 speeds) are more like sports bikes in cruiser clothing (I think mostly to allow for the vertically challenged who can't fit on a sports bike.)

Main con is probably the narrow gearing, resulting in screaming rews on the highway.
Not sure if the belt drive allows for final drive adjustments?
On the vn800 you could at least quite easily increase the front and decrease the rear sprocket ...quite a lot even.
    But it is beautiful 😊

You can do a pulley swap from 32/66 to 34/61 or 62 for a 15% rpm drop. Cnc your own or adapt a 61 tooth sportster pulley. Stay away fron Barons, their quality and warranty is real bad.

Informative. I would like to know about fuel consumption and HP/Torque. I'll see if I can find the specs. It looks like a lot of bike for the price, and Kaw has it's quality and performance.
I've rode the old BMW K bikes for nearly 40 years now, and I have to do some expensive repairs on the old bike. The only thing I don't like on it is the high seat height as I am getting older. So I'm looking at a light, low new bike. I know what I will be giving up, excellent rain protection, easy pull clutch and brake levers, the best shifting transmission, The quickest braking I will ever find, and the BMW feel of quality as I ride. I've over 400,000 riding miles on those two K bikes. Riding anything else is going to be weird. I've been looking at Scouts., but I've heard great things about the Vulcans.
I like the low seat, I like hearing it has a good ride, and the large tank with a fuel gauge. I've never had a fuel gauge execpt for a little while. I really want a range of over 200 and a fuel gauge. I don't want to have to buy a premium fuel.

I own a 2009 Vulcan 900 (2006-today are same bike) and have ridden an Indian scout for a few hundred miles.
The Indian is QUICK AND FAST for a 1000cc twin motor, and the motor is balanced beautify, its almost comical how at idol you can't feel anything in the bars or pegs that tells you that it is running, it is as nimble as a 500cc bike, it honestly feels half the size of my 900.
The Vulcan is a comfortable cruiser; with a big mustang seat it as comfortable as anything i have been on, equal to an electroglide i did a little half day on, as far as just a comfortable seat and seating position.
The stock set up on the Indian scout isn't uncomfortable, but it's not close to the Vulcan when it comes to that.
If you're going to cruise around town and jump on the highway when you want to, the Vulcan is just so easy to ride.
If you want to pull through some twisties and pull away from everything at a stoplight that isn't a sport version, the scout is for you.
They are probably the two furthest extremes in differences of bikes in a similar class.
      Vulcan and Scout
      Cadillac and corvette
      Lincoln and Mustang
I'm 57 years old and 5ft 7 to 5ft 8, / 31-32-inch inseam, I put both feet flat without really thinking about it on the 900 and the scout.
Any questions and I will be honest with you, and I don't mind.

At 4.16 you say it has dual zone ABS but at 5.09 you use no ABS as a con. Does it have ABS or not. It is obviously a bike for skilled riders, (or old blokes) no need for a the fancy stuff, tachometer, ABS gear indicators, traction or cruise control. A 6 th gear might be nice, to be honest it doesn’t seem to have changed much since my 2009 model. Great bikes!
