Ohhh, this was so much fun joining Navajo Grandma and her precious granddaughters for traditional yucca hair washing❤ Such a privilege to be part of this beautiful cleansing ritual and gathering!
Oh gosh, she is just wonderful. I lost my grandma just last year and Navajo Grandma reminds me so much of her. Those girls need to love her up as much possible. She seems like such a loving woman.
Jessica you are talking and commenting to me, your Navajo Grandma. Thank you for your kind words and yes I hope these grandchildren always love their grandma as much and even more than their grandma loves them. Grandma's are amazing and awesome. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
@@NavajoGrandma That’s so sweet. It sure seems like all your grandkids love you to pieces just as it is so obvious you love them. I have only just found your videos yesterday and have enjoyed them immensely. Although it does remind me of my grandma, she was quite young. I miss her terribly. I have a feeling you two would have gotten along.
I don't know how I've never seen this video before. For years, I've been trying to live as simply as my ancestors did (I don't have Navajo blood as far as I know, but Apache and Cherokee), and after hearing how my own grandma grew up on a reservation, I've always been so in awe. I collect as many books and recipes as I can find on tribal wisdom like this. It's rather disgusting how modern ways just dismisses the ancient traditions like using yucca as "unhygienic" when those traditions let tribes thrive. Everything in a modern home is truly a luxury, and a very easy luxury at that. The fact tribes and cultures survived without modern pharmaceutical products is only proof that the old and natural ways are truly the best ways. If those old traditions were really so unhealthy, there would be no one alive in the Americas today. So much love from my family to yours! Your wisdom is priceless in today's world, Navajo Grandma!
My dear Mz Homestead I love how you are discovering some videos old but as timely as back then and always and now. I hope you continue to use Yucca. It is so lovely and smells perfect and natural. Our hair shines and you can almost play a violin like music on our hair strands because they are so strong and ring with beauty. Keep up the goodness. Hugs galore. Navajo Grandma
Aloha, I loved learning about using Yucca as a non toxic "truly natural" Shampoo/Conditioner!! I also love your calling the baby Liliuokalani, which is the name of one of our Hawaiian Queens. This kind of knowledge is more important than ever during these times. Mahalo nui loa for sharing your knowledge & experience & Aloha nui loa/Much love to you & your ohana!
As I said before Mapuana Kupuna, my children are Japanese, Hawaiian, Navajo. The Hanamaikai's were the loyal servants of the Queen and were the ones with the wisdom that was sought. Of course, Hanamaikai means "Of good works," and thus my DNA carries that forward. Aloha and God bless. Navajo Grandma
@@NavajoGrandmaI don't know how I came across your video yesterday as I wasn't looking for it so I had no prior knowledge of yours or your children's history. I enjoyed the lesson very much & am glad I found this video. Aloha & Have a Blessed day!
Dear one, your Navajo Gma said before, these grasses are seasonal. I want to show you how to pick the grass, how to put the brush together as it is done with utmost respect, prayer & gratitude. I know you can’t wait but little one you need to. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
I am a southern Oklahoma Choctaw. I love to learn about the long ago usage of things by the Natives. I watched your video on the yucca root shampoo and went right out and dug up some yucca roots. You were absolutely truthful in your presentation. My hair is about hip length. I am always looking for ways to treat my hair. The results were so amazing. My hair was shiny, no static electricity, it smelled so clean and fresh and I did not use a comb or brush on it. As it dried, it was so soft I only used my fingers to "comb" through it. Two days out and I have yet to even put a comb to it. My hair has never looked better. I know I can't do without the yucca roots so my husband and I went on another quest and I peeled and processed the roots (and leaves in separate bags). I put them in vacuumed seal packs with enough root for one washing. I have put these bags in the freezer. I don't know if this is a good idea or not, but in about a week, it will be hair washing time again and I will see if it works the same. Thank you so much for your videos. You are a real treasure.
Scheryl what a wonderful comment!! I love how you just went out and dug up the yucca root and followed through. Are you awesome or what?? Everyone wishes they could just go and dig this yucca up. Thank you for sharing your experience as it is as it should be. It is natural and wonderful. There is nothing wrong with your preparation and freezing it. Few folks really understand what to do or how to keep this. Please let me know how the unfrozen yucca works and if the gel remained fresh. Wonderful and looking forward to hair shampooing day with you. Hugs. Navajo Grandma.
You are so welcome. Hair washing day with yucca was a wonderful female day after scrubbing down the boys. They ran off to play with not a thought that their hair & scalp were stropped of dirt, grease and their hair & scalp was nurtured that day & followings days. But as you know to the females we washed each other's hair with love, laughter, complimenting each other of our beautiful locks of hair, how healthy, long as it glistened in the desert sun. It was a delightful day & days long gone & truly missed. Many have passed thru the veil to the spirit world & sometimes my auntie would say, "I feel it is hairwashing day today as I heard my sisters giggling & laugh." It would be like a ray of health & comfort when she said this. She became the oldest living auntie of yesteryear. She died a couple of months ago. It is up to me to buy headstones for my family as they see no significance in that. I just need a million dollars. That is my prayer. So the significance was powerful in every sense. It was hair washing day this day as we sat, talked, laughed & played in the sun. Everyone is older, moved, but I am still here. I pray we write happy memories such as these family days to revisit when all are gone. Happy thoughts. It was never a mere hairwash day, it was peace, beauty, balance & harmony- Hozho. Navajo Grandma
Awesome nana. Gosh brings back memories as a child with my nannies washing their grandchildren's hair😫😂😂. No such thing as gentle though lol. An always got the "you keep crying, I'll give you something to cry about". 🙄😂
Your comment made me laugh cuz it is so true!! Like I said, if you complained you got more cold water during the rinse. It wasn't fun. Thank you for watching, don't forget we have more videos coming to share. Please continue to LIKE and making great comments. Navajo Grandma
Lexi great idea and what a wonderful thought that you have given regarding hibiscus. Here folks drink Hibiscus. It is edible and wonderful too and no chemicals right? Make use of your yucca girl. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
You're so welcome! Hatito(Northern) Ho(Southern). Thank you for watching and learning. Welcoming our Shawnee family. Yaateeh!! Hugs from Navajo Grandma
Well it is wonderful and it was a daily usage for skin and hair. No chemicals. I never realized how important this was until I got older. My Aussie husband had snow drift dry dandruff that I had to get a small vacuum for, it was awful. I just assumed white people had this problem. Then I realized he was using some weird shampoo he had purchased from Walmart. Finally I wrestled him down and I scrubbed and washed his head and scalp with yucca. Zero dandruff. I went looking for white flakes everywhere, on his black shirt, I checked his pillow, I put another black shirt on him, nothing. Crazee huh? Well there is no dandruff and I am a happy camper and one less thing to complain about. hahaha. Its just marriage. Enjoy. Navajo Grandma
😊 thank you as she and others are no longer this little or have long hair anymore, Olivia buzzed her hair. Goodness I almost fell over. Its in a Bob cut now. Thank goodness we an grow hair again. Thank you always for watching these older videos that still state and testify of what goodness the Yucca shampoo still and forever will nourish and bless your scalp and hair. It is also a wonderful sacred body wash. Just check for allergies as well. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
I was looking to see how to use it and this clarifies all. As a child my late mother used to wash my hair with yucca. All these chemicals mixed in shampoos now and days is no good anymore. So I came across your video. Thank You! Now I can go home and grab me some yucca on the land.
The wisest words of being teachable that I have heard this day. Wonderful. Your dear mother is so proud of you for remembering what little things of love or endearment she did for you. You are still her heart. She is in the spirit world here on this earth, she is alive in spirit, her faculties are sharper now than when she was in this life. She loves you so much and needs you to keep up the good person you are, who she raise. She did her best dear one. Remember this. Sending hugs from your Navajo Grandma (a sad substitute for your wonderful precious mother.) No one can take our mother's place. Period.
You are so nice to say this. They are now growing up so fast, I wish they would stay little and cute. Now they are BIG AND CUTE! Scary. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
Amazing family you have! I love learning about other tribes medicines and traditions. The connection with Mother Earth is beyond anything else and going to her for all your needs
I love learning about Diné culture, I’m not Diné myself, but I have family who are so it’s nice to learn about different sides of my family. I’d love to try washing my hair with yucca, although my hair texture is a lot different than you guys😂 love you and your channel Navajo grandma!
Its good to remember and it keeps us moving forward, but the stuff about the way our government and the reality of what traders do still continue. We are moving forward though. Hope Mexico is having more hope. Pray always. Navajo Grandma
I love natural hair care! I always watch videos from different cultures to learn more. But this has to be the loveliest of them all. Thank you for sharing with us all your traditions ❤️🌷
It is yours too. You just didn't grow up knowing. This is a sacred way shown to our people by Christ to remain clean every wit. It's sacred sweet one. Love you tons. Navajo Grandma
@@NavajoGrandma my mom used to gather water from the rain and rinse our hair with it plus vinegar. All we had in those times was stinging nettle shampoo. But still our hair was lovely & shiny. We would eat fruits & veggies from the garden, we were not given pills but drank teas etc. The thing is that we grow up, we become 'modern' and start buying commercial stuff. But when I had my son I started to go back to my roots & also research other cultures natural way of doing things 😍 I will try to get my hands on yucca and see how it works. I live in Spain but was born in Romania (East Europe). It was really interesting to see your brush, my mom used and still uses a broom made from a sort of straw to sweep. What do you use for your brushes? Thank you very much!
Well Sasha, this yucca can be eaten but its super high in carbohydrates, it would only be eaten as a survival situation I think. But there are yucca that is eaten just know the difference. This is more for shampoo. Its called Spanish Bayonet. Navajo Grandma
My ancestors ate this religiously and so do I lol I love it. it's still very huge in my culture we put it with garlic butter onions. Usally chicken or some form of meat rice beans go with it.
This is not the yuca that's popular in the Caribbean nor is it the yuca found in tapioca/casava starch. The saponins in these types of yucca make it a risk if eaten. There are different types and some can cause more harm to your health then others if eaten. I've heard that there's ways to prepare certain types of yucca root to eat, but there's other types that will remain toxic regardless of how you prepare them. I would discourage people from eating the yucca roots found in the US southwest desert region. Eat yuCa not yuCCa. Yucca flowers and stalk are ok to eat though, not the root.
You should be so proud to have a legacy of beautiful daughters/granddaughters! I miss living out west where I had access to yucca root . My dear friends' family sort of adopted me and became my family although I am not Native American they were the closest thing to family I ever knew. I lived on the Shoshone rez and learned so many valuable life skills in my time there from farming, gardening, hunting /butchering cleaning, and processing meat as well as fish..shearing, processing, and spinning wool for weaving, mocassin making as well as beading.. Using yucca shampoo my hair was so healthy and shiny ..no split ends..My Auntie made me a straw brush with the tall part cut down then wrapped it in a piece of elk hide and beaded it as a sort of handle. I am not sure if that is a Shoshone thing or just a variation of the Navajo traditional straw brush? I think I am gonna attempt to make a straw brush and bead a handle .So many people moved away from the rez and do not have access to this knowledge .kudos and much love for sharing your traditions with the world.
Wow what a life to have lived amongst the tribes. Yes you did learn a lot I can tell and I know that what we are taught by our ancestors are so life giving. Its a real world of hard work, real foods that are not processed, drying our foods, making due with what we had with prayer. So much in being grateful thru prayers and blessings of the earth, the sky, the stars, and all that make up the spiritual aspects of our earthly lives. It is truly Hozho: "peace, beauty(walking in it in life), balance and harmony.") It is hard work and appreciation with great faith and prayer that exudes goodness and happiness in life. This was done for the love of life and family. I hope you keep those binding ties of friends and tribal families and know you are never alone. Your ancestors are always watching over you as you are their precious posterity. Some see them some don't. Still it is the same we are not alone. Thank you for this beautiful comment. Now you are a part of Navajo Grandma's family and know you are loved here, you are family and maybe one day I can meet you and give you a big fat hug and get to know you. I really respect this and wish I can experience yucca. I would love one of those brushes I found out 51% indigenous Americans and my people are from Mexico I’m doing more research on it but it’s amazing and I can’t wait to find out more about my people 💜
My next videos will involve defining myself, a sober one, then excitedly moving towards Grandma shearing a sheep for you all. This is an opener with videos on the weaving loom, rugs, carding and spinning dowel with weaving accessories. Its getting exciting to learn more about Dine' textile. Please watch and learn. Hugs. Sorry I cry when I see the hair brushes my Bizhi foraged & made, those were the ones stolen from me while in a Courtyard Marriot Hotel in Farmington, New Mexico. Their only offer for this & they knew who did it. They only offered a 2 night stay. I will never go there again. I had so much stolen & they were more interested in blaming me for not reporting it until I got to my car and realized it then turned around & reported it but the Mgr never got my report for 4 days. I kept calling then I called their main office wherein they stated I didn't report it in a timely manner and take it or leave it I was told the Mgr had offered me a 2 day stay. It was the worst experience and nothing was done. So sad. So I don't watch the videos with the hairbrush, hand woven rugs, carding brushes, my Bizhi's spindle carved by my Nali for her. These were whittled out in the 1930s. It broke my heart so deeply. Sad. I never take stuff like that anymore. Navajo Grandma
Hopefully you can buy one. I don't have a store and I should but it takes way too much time. I can't do it. Go to the reservation swap meets and you will find them there. Navajo Grandma
Sometimes its too many women I tell you. Especially raising them to being very well spoken and emotional. Wow. But I love that too. I know what you mean. Family is amazing. So are you. Gpa says, one woman is enough. LOLl! Navajo Grandma
Wonderful to know this yucca is available to you, get some and use it. The smells always bring me home with love of culture and Dine’ folks. Say hello to NY. I did genealogical research there as it is my company a few times, very congested, even the cemeteries are miles and miles long. Amazing. Some folks don’t mind cities, I love my natural momma earth with my bare feet mushed in the sacred sand. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
What beautiful granddaughters you have this is Cindy from Denver and that comb must feel so good along with that shampoo amazing how the the Earth supplies everything you need! I always learn things I never knew from you thank you
Excellent comment, God has given us all our needs you are right. That brush was stolen from me, actually 3 of my grandmother's hairbrush bee'zhoo were stolen from my room along with rugs, carding brushes etc from the Courtyard Marriott in Farmington, New Mexico. The Mgr said it wasn't their fault even tho it was their employee & she knew who it was. So she said all I will do is give you 2 nights & booted us out. Their Corp office said I lied, no cameras. I wept forever. Non replaceable. Thus sometimes its hard to watch my videos to see my grandma's hair brushes. Yes, tho this breaks my heart, these hair brushes are lovely. Thank you for watching & your kind comment. Pray for gma to get over thus. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
@@NavajoGrandma oh I'm so sorry that happened to you! You being one of the "only one" to hear and feel their presence.... Just giving you something to think about that I would truly think that your true life story would an amazing movie to see on the big screen and you as the starring roll in it... Just a seed I'm planting😘🥰. Much love to you

I was in Peru a few months ago and went to a place where they dyed alpaca and sheep wool to make blankets, clothes, etc. I watched a demonstration about how they grated the yucca root into water, soaped it up and then strained it. The wool came out so clean after only a few minutes of mixing! It was amazing! Then the wool was ready to dye. So simple. They also said they use yucca root soap for their hair and body soap, just like you mention. AND, they told us that using the natural yucca root shampoo (as you demonstrate) prevents gray hair from growing -- but sadly does not return existing gray hair back to your natural color. Indeed, I see no gray hair on you either! You look and act so youthful Navajo Grandma ! 🤩... Your granddaughter's will be so lucky to keep using that soap. Thank you for making these videos. You are adorable.
Thank you so much for this lovely comment!! I am not sure the soap you are referring to as being Yucca, it is more likely Yuca. Either way it is a lovely natural soap and it is absolutely fantastic. It is fun to use and we had a blast that hair washing day. Fun and healthy. Hugs from Navajo Grandma
Dear Navajo Grandma, I am so happy to have found your channel! I am now one happy subscriber! 😊 I was amazed to find that a plant I so often started to see in the last few years in my city's gardens and streets is actually the beautiful Yucca, used as a wonderful shampoo by the Navajo nation! Now, every time I see it, I will think of you, your wonderful family and people, and pray for a better life for you all. I am from the other side of the globe, from Bulgaria, and though I've never been to USA, I feel a great respect, compassion, sympathy and warmth towards the american Natives. I try to educate myself on the history, culture and art of the indigenous people of America, and though the sources are scarce (which makes me very sad, the Native Americans are the people deserving a careful and respectful attention to their history, culture and knowledge), your channel provides so much knowledge about the amazing Navajo culture (and language, which I also find very beautiful)! Blessings to you, your family and people, you do a great work! ♥️ With love, Veronica.

Wow her long hair is so beautiful! The Tallawash, is a amazing natural shampoo! Thank you, for sharing+ I always wondered how native girls had such beautiful hair!
I'm happy to hear that! May I ask what does Hozho mean? I am from Poland but live abroad, and I'm trying my best to teach my son my language and traditions. It's not easy but definitely beautiful and worth it, and I see your hard work to pass on to next generations beautiful Navajo traditions ❤
A ceremony of goodness, health, clear minds, love of God, love for our earthly family, asking for health and strength to do our duties, to stand with truth always. So much more. Thank you. Excellent comment. Navajo Grandma
Thank you for being so appreciative, I don't believe until I am dead that I will be appreciated. Its just the way it is. I in turn adore my grandchildren. Emma Lou who's hair I washed first is going into 2nd grade now I believe. Olivia who was a Junior has graduated and now going to school to be a Doctor, and little Lili Lulu the baby is taller and punching people out and has quite the attitude. She also talks a lot now. So time flies so awfully fast. I wish they stayed this age. Thank you for appreciating grandma's videos. Love you so. Navajo Grandma
Ah.... foothills of Utah Valley. You're in Provo!.... Hey neighbor, Great videos. I know this plant as a botanist for BLM -- always wanted to know what the Dine thought of it/ how they used it. Thanks for gifting us a part of your wonderful culture and sharing your story.

You're very welcome. The heartbeat of any nation is in the women. The ones who tell their daughters, granddaughters, sisters the old ways. Keep it up. I learn from you.
Grandma? No way, you pass for their mom. This reminds me of South Asian soap nuts. My Mexican mom used to describe the yucca plant as a healing plant. Your doing what my mom's ancestors did around 300 years ago before the Spanish came and changed their ways and language in Mexico City. My DNA test circled all three North, Central, and South America. I taught it would just be the Aztecs and Mayan.
These little ones are my grandchildren and precious. It’s amazing to hear what your mom and ancestors did like this. We are so much alike as we are family on this beautiful Mother Earth. Thank you for your comment. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
Thank you for demonstrating how to use yucca root for shampoo 😍 I LOVE learning about how the ancients done things! Because I honeslty beleive that they knew BEST! We dont need all this man made stuff because nature already provides everything that we need to be healthy in every way 💛 I just recently bought a yucca root shampoo bar and I absolutely LOVE it! But I wish I could find someone to buy a little bit of yucca from that lives where it grows like you do so I can get it strait from the source...so I can make it myself just like you did Can you strain the yucca junks out of the "shampoo" once you have it all mixed up? So that you dont have to worry about the chunks getting in your hair?
Leslie, it is so true the words you speak. Our ancestors were taught to use the natural herbs, vegetations, etc., which made them strong, blessed them, healed them. Its wonderful to learn. Thank you for your comment. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
Gracias 😊 Thank you for sharing your knowledge with everyone. You are a blessing. I can’t wait to learn more about the Navajo traditions. I used to work with Navajo people, and I loved learning everything I could with them. I even had the privilege of being called Shideezhí by one of them. It made me so happy when I heard that word 🥰
Tal vez esa te funcione, si no tienes acceso a cosecharla tu misma. 🙋🏻♀️
Well get in line, there are over 4,000 ahead of you. haha. Glad you enjoyed this. My subscribers are offering me money to wash their hair too. Just makes me giggle. I love having my hair washed. Navajo Grandma

@@gatetraveler2 for that in particular I recommend generally going with natural products. Try the Mill Creek H-24 Phase 3 emulsion Serum. And get your blood test going to see that everything is ok internally.

MA, goodness, you almost got grandma crying too. I know when we watch something that pulls at our heart strings of long ago, it does yank out tears and precious memories such as yours with your grandmother. I am thankful I made this video as my little grandchildren are so darling, big or little. They are indeed my heart such as you were and still are to your grandmother. I always say, although she is not here in the flesh, she does exist in the spirit world. She does love you so dearly, she watches over you and guides you when you feel lost to places and people to bless and give you the hope you need. She loves you so dearly, never forget that. I am so happy to know you love your grandmother as much as you do and also like myself, my Bizhi was my world and her teachings were even greater and thus all she taught me carries me on and strengthens me in times like we live in and also that I can share and show you my grandparents legacy thru myself. I pray that these videos will continue to bless and nurture the culture and traditions in us to remember our ancestors and what amazing lineages we come from. Is this any different/or the same; of what my family called “Soap-weed”? When I was really young I remember my aunties washing me with that..... you are way more gentle then they were. It was always scary to have our Auntie wash our hair. Do not piss off your aunties... they have things to do... I’m smiling at remembering it.
Hi there, yup, you minced and cried and you got MORE COLD WATER. True. I don't believe it is the same weed. At least I have never heard of it described as such. Thank you for watching and may the suds be with you always. Smile. Navajo Grandma
My Grammy called yucca “soap weed” so I assume it’s probably what your family was referring to. My family here in the south always called it soap weed but some of my family that lived in the Midwest called it Yucca.
Navajo Grandma , I am working on my picture project for you and GP of my place. I am taking many great shots of my humble place here in south Texas and will send them to your address by Friday . I will give ya our address and phone number in the box. . was cutting grass today , broke a water faucet pipe and had more of a chore then I bargained for this morning. sure wish winter would get here. later this week nights are suppose to be in 60s I cant wait. day s will still be in low 90s though. seems like summer started in march . ok back to resting and watching you tube. Is there anywhere to buy this already in shampoo. I have eczema and would love to try it for the mail loss and to heal my scalp. I haven’t tried any of our traditional ways to help my scalp.
Hi Stephanie, no I haven't found where this is a shampoo, except some who claim it is natural, until you read the ingredients. If you can purchase this in powder form at a Natural Herb store, then add 1 cup of water in a blender, blend it then use it. That would be the closest. Let me know your results. Navajo Grandma
I just checked online with a company that I really like called Mountain Rose Herbs. They carry Yucca root in coarse and powder form, might be a good starting point!
I am grateful for you watching grandma's video and seeing that the yucca does make your hair shiny, healthy and full of life with chemicals. Wonderful. Navajo Grandma
You tickle me calling me NG. So yes, when I rewatch this video, this always brings me joy about my family and how my little Lillie and Emma and Olivia have all grown so much. Just incredible. Always remember the goodness of your grandma. So few do. Hugs from Navajo Grandma

Thank You for sharing this. I lived for 40 years in the desert. I'd heard of the Yucca's soap properties, but, I had never seen it done. Your Granddaughters are beautiful. Thanks for sharing them with us. They remind me of my Granddaughters,
Jamie, good to see that even though this isn't 20th Century Fox presentations, it is what it is, pure natural soap, clean and wonderful. My husband use to have snow drifts on his collar, I hated it, I tried everything till I thought to myself, oh heavens, I should have done this long ago. We went out, I dug up a small log and soon we washed his hair, the next day and days after I was hunting for dandruff but found nothing. Amazing!! Now he says can you dig up some yucca and I say, dig it up yourself to learn and guess what, he sat down watched my video, did everything right and blended the yucca with 1 cup water, washed then soaked his hair with the yucca. He left it in 30 minutes to make sure it worked. Haha. He loves the stuff. Personal testimony. It works. Try it and it won't wash out your color if you color your hair. a plus I tell you. Haha again. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
I will never quit being amazed at all the knowledge about the Earth, and everything in it by the Dine', and all the Turtle Island Indigenous. I can't even think of anyone else today that has all this knowledge.. Science only pretends to.
Well Mother Earth has given so much of it to us even when we treat her with such disrespect, she continues, day by day, week by week, month by month, season by season to bless and nourish us with whatever we plant or what she give naturally. How truly blessed we are even with one part of this earthly existence. GMA

My family and I just returned from a trip to Navajo Nation and I am so happy that I found your channel. Your grandchildren are so beautiful, and I love learning about your culture. We toured canyons in Arizona with a Navajo guide who spoke of the use of the Yucca plant, as well as others. It is a gift for me to watch you use this plant with your family. Now I must watch ALL of your videos. Thank you for sharing your culture with us.
You are blessed to have been able to go on this trip because a lot of places are worried again about this new virus and are thinking of closing places most visitors desire to see. How did you get your guide? Grandma was planning a road trip this coming end of April again the places are threatening to close and it saddens me for there is such beautiful places in my own assessment that is gorgeous to see. Welcome to our Navajo Grandma family. I always say, take off your coat and stay awhile. Enjoy watching listening and learning from the videos. Thank you for your genuine interest in our Dine' culture and traditions. Hugs from Navajo Grandma
Hi Paulette, its wonderful we are grandma's and you know definitely how precious our grandchildren are and more so teaching them how to care for themselves culturally through using Yucca. They stare at my preparation and help me too. Sometimes when they come over, they say, hey gma lets dig up some Yucca, and clean it then wash our hair. How fun they are. They will never forget. Hugs to us. Navajo Grandma
Thank you so much 🤗. I will make a video this coming season around September to November when I will go pick the grass to make this beezho (hair brush). You have to try the yucca for your hair too. Thank you for supporting grandma. Love you. Navajo Grandma
Ohhh, this was so much fun joining Navajo Grandma and her precious granddaughters for traditional yucca hair washing❤ Such a privilege to be part of this beautiful cleansing ritual and gathering!

But when I had my son I started to go back to my roots & also research other cultures natural way of doing things 😍
I will try to get my hands on yucca and see how it works. I live in Spain but was born in Romania (East Europe).
It was really interesting to see your brush, my mom used and still uses a broom made from a sort of straw to sweep.

Omg 🤯, I eat yucca all the time! Never knew it can be used as a shampoo. Thanks for sharing!
Wow that yucca really worked like a charm. Nizhoni. ❤
I do know this and the best. Gma

I need some of those hair brushes for me and familia.

I don't know if you've ever thought of writing your life story and how you want it to be told, but it could easily become a movie and I think you would be perfect in it! It's just something you might want to think about that takes time to do,but I think it would be so interesting starting from you sitting in the teepee with all the elders and your grandfather.

Grandma? No way, you pass for their mom. This reminds me of South Asian soap nuts. My Mexican mom used to describe the yucca plant as a healing plant. Your doing what my mom's
ancestors did around 300 years ago before the Spanish came and changed their ways and
language in Mexico City. My DNA test circled all three North, Central, and South America. I taught it would just be the Aztecs and Mayan.

I just recently bought a yucca root shampoo bar and I absolutely LOVE it!
But I wish I could find someone to buy a little bit of yucca from that lives where it grows like you do so I can get it strait from the source...so I can make it myself just like you did
Can you strain the yucca junks out of the "shampoo" once you have it all mixed up? So that you dont have to worry about the chunks getting in your hair?
Leslie, it is so true the words you speak. Our ancestors were taught to use the natural herbs, vegetations, etc., which made them strong, blessed them, healed them. Its wonderful to learn. Thank you for your comment. Hugs. Navajo Grandma

Tal vez esa te funcione, si no tienes acceso a cosecharla tu misma.

Is this any different/or the same; of what my family called “Soap-weed”? When I was really young I remember my aunties washing me with that..... you are way more gentle then they were. It was always scary to have our Auntie wash our hair.

My Grammy called yucca “soap weed” so I assume it’s probably what your family was referring to. My family here in the south always called it soap weed but some of my family that lived in the Midwest called it Yucca.
i looked on wikipedia and there is a species of yucca called soap weed colloquially so it probably is another name for it
