Won't lie, won't even sugarcoat, loadshedding is the ghetto and has no place in society. It sucks even for us locals. The sale of the grocery bag is more of an environmental thing than making profit where if you know that you're paying for it (as little as it may be coz let's face it, it doesn't cost that much) then you won't just dispose of it any and everywhere you will save it and reuse hence saving the environment. I think that was a great initiative by the government as it has reduced littering quiet a bit, I do however wish that plastic bags should just be banned all together if we want to see a significant change.
Girl, we are also shocked by loadshedding 😭. We don't get used to it as well. Coloured are a race on their own in South Africa. They aren't only mix between black and white, most are a mix with koi and white etc... But they are a race on their own.
There was a time when African Americans was also classified as colored!I just have to correct u on race classification introduce by the White colonists who used racist terminology to devide and rule colored peoples of the countries they invaded and subjugated!! It was a way they played with words to devide a and confuse indigenous communities prevent unity! Black, Brown, White are a dumb and derogatory method to classify humans 🥴
Soooo, when black Americans get to South Africa, what are they called since "black" usually means tribal? 🤨 When "coloreds" get to the US, they'll definitely be black. LOL
IF Khoi / San people are not Black, then we (The Nguni / Sotho Group /Venda and Tsonga groups) are also not Black but should identify as just being African ge. Don't let confused people deceive you Khoi is Black! Just a lighter shade of it fela
From one south african to any other person living in south africa, there is an app thagt gves us an estimated schedule for everyday loadshedding, this does not mean that they will stick slavishly to that schedule, as everything is subject to change, and if you want electricity all the time for your basic needs like wifi then you need to purchase a wifi that has it's own battery or buy and inverter or power pack
Shopping bags was very interesting thing as they were for free and we called them the national flower! and in about 2 or 3 years you would not find one blowing around the street
With the aged infrastructure in the United States, not only will Loadshedding happen in the U.S. at some point, not more than a year ago, it was actually discussed. I'll be sure to invest in some of the fixes you mentioned.
In the old days, directing traffic at a busy intersection, was done by a traffic policeman. When the policeman was replaced by an electro-mechanical machine, the policeman was roboticized - hence robot.
In Canada we have to bring our own plastics bags when we go grocery shopping, otherwise tbey charge five cents per bag. Some stores only sell the cloth bags which are a $1.50

There is scheduled outages in America as well (San Francisco, Michigan, New York, Texas, California) Dubai i know they had no power at some point during the World Cup, France has schedules as well, in some of these countries they call them rolling black outs. True, I grew up in Newcastle KZN and it snows almost every second winter though not as heavy as when I was based in Manhattan but almost similar......this is common in towns close to the Drankensberg
I've lived in South Africa all my life (with an exception of 1 year in the states in 1997). Loadshedding is something I don't think I'll ever get used to! I don't agree with you that drinking our tap water is safe. Petrol attendants in South Africa is for two reasons, job opportunities and well crime. Love your video, you express yourself well. Enjoy your time here and stay safe. Glad you are aware of being mindful of your surroundings!
Generally speaking tap water is safe to drink in urban areas of SA however I’ve found Johannesburg to be a little sketch depending on the region so I just drink bottled when I’m there
The thing that is missed with regards to Loadshedding is that its only relevant to the South African citizenry, the political elite are not affected by this at all as their official residence will always have power (not even hospitals, schools or police stations are exempt from loadshedding) . Also because of the loadshedding there are areas that suffer water shutdowns too as the water infrastructure is dependant on electricity. So when there is loadshedding there is also no water.
Thanks for the wonderful and informative video my beautiful sista, especially about the differences between here and the USA. True, loadshedding is a big inconvenience largely caused by corrupt politicians as opposed to technical issues. I enjoyed watching this video and look forward to seeing more from you...❤🧡💛🤎🖤

Being coloured is not about skin shade. So saying a lighter brown skin person is coloured is factually wrong. There are many black people who are actually biracial but do not identify as coloured. There are also many coloured people who are very dark and even darker than most black people. These dark skinned coloureds actually face discrimination from people who feel that they are not real coloureds or not coloured enough because they are not light skinned. It's a very sensitive issue. If you are biracial but raised in a black family and neighbourhood you cannot call yourself coloured. Most South Africans are light skinned anyways so its not about that at all. The current classification is more about culture and heritage than skin tone . The skin tone and hair texture rule is actually how the apartheid government decided who is coloured and who isn't because they came up with the classification anyways. Look up the pencil test.
Hi Dinaledi , I gave the same reply to an influentiall person on twitter the other day relating to the whole Thabo Bester's identity - personally myself I'm of such a rich mixed racial background that I dont bother but represent myself as a proud BLACK South African like many Black South Africans .Some of the 'blacks' historically reclassified themselves as 'coloured' purely for the sole purpose of 'better' benefits in Apartheid SA - many of my blood relatives are in this category . Our own Mama Winnie Mandela is of such racial background . From as late as the late14/1500'S centuries when Europeans were shipwrecked around the SA coast and rescued into the native communities there and then a new "breed" of people were born .About 40 % of current self identfying BLACKS in SA would be considered 'coloured' if they chose to but don't bother and NEITHER want to be considered as that !!
@@thiboznjabu64 100% . Hence the current classification has very little to do with complexion or even racial heritage. It's more of cultural heritage ...more of are you born to or raised in a coloures family . So it's a bit worrying when people use the apartheid era rule of skin shade/tone or hair texture to determine who's coloured or not. It's regressive and legitimizes the apartheid pencil test rule . It's also hurtful to coloureds who happen to be dark skinned .Then you also have people who are born to coloured parents but reject the coloured classification and identify as black .
Just to give my 2 cent on this topic, my mother is a South Africa Xhosa woman and my father is from Germany where I am currently based, I grew up in Johannesburg and identify as black (Xhosa man) because I was raised in that culture although I clearly look mix race., there are so many times I have been mistaken as coloured but that is foreign to me because its entirely different culture. Even amongst coloured communities there's difference ie coloureds from Cape Town are different from Durban KZN coloureds they even speak two different languages.
The term that is typically used in America is mixed-race, biracial or multiracial. This is people who identify with having two or more races within their genealogy.
@@JaeScottStyle I think here in Mzansi coloureds despite being born of black women they never wanted any thing to do with black people some still do , so its better to associate a person with what they like not forces them on things they hate.
COLOURED PEOPLE ARE NOT WHITE MIXED WITH BLACK. THERE U GOT IT ALL WRONG. COLOURED PEOPLE ARE MULTI-RACIAL AND NOT JUST BIRACIAL. WE HAVE A UNIQUE HISTORY, THEREFORE WE ARE CALLED COLOUREDS. MY GRANDPARENTS FROM FATHER SIDE IS INDIAN & BIRACIAL COLOURED MY GRANDPARENTS FROM MOTHERS SIDE IS WHITE & BIRACIAL COLOURED. MY MOM & DAD BEING HALF INDIAN & HALF WHITE MAKES ME COLOURED. SO BASICALLY COLOURED PEOPLE ARE MULTI-RACIAL.

You look more like black locals cause most South Africans are brown. Coloured is also about your culture, cause the skin tone maybe be the same but the other maybe umXhosa and another coloured. Sometimes umXhosa may look lighter than a coloured person. If you can only speak English/ Afrikaans and you are brown skinned, and can not be associated with any local tribes, you are assumed to be coloured.
In the US cookouts are a black thing, but everyone in South Africa loves to braai. Different groups will have different twists on it. Generally, black people will have their braai with pap and chakalaka, Cape coloured people will always have potato salad and beans salad, I've never actually been to a white braai, but I imagine they will at least have beer.
@@LegionFay I assume you're Afrikaans. Right? For some reason, I can't imagine an English white person eating pap, but I still have a lot to learn. Are there specific kinds of salads that you usually have (the above-mentioned potato and/or beans salads are kinda quintessential sides in my coloured experience). Sometimes also roosterbrood on the braai. Alcohol (mostly beer) is also either essential or non-existent, depending on religion and whatnot. I prefer the former.
Yes, I am Afrikaans. We do potato salad, best salad for a braai. We also do a garlic bread if we do not choose a braai Broodjie. Alcohol defintely. We know a couple that makes the most delicious pap and tomato sause that is to die for., we would have a braai just eat that lol
We are all humans .. kind like to be with kind. Never was wrong with that. Nature tells... respect is the Big problem. God should be the center then everything is sorted out. I personally do not like when a tiger mate with a leoperd ( cat family) it is not really natural. But I think humans wanted to brake the racism thing to show all of us are actually the same and special.... not to say mixes are not special ( I think they are arace formed to try and Brake racism hate..) But as aninals live together and respectdifferne t cultures.. humans should. God loves us all, all races are beautiful but satan makes everything about hate and competition. We can live in peace, but culture mixtures is not always easy. The only placewe will find peace is in God that loves us all and respect for eachother and living Godly so we can trust eachother....That is a big process.. Our cats and dogs live together in peace, but if they did not grew up together they are like enemies and have to get to know eachother first.. now they do and line eachother and the dogs respect the cats and cats the dogs ways... bit they all know, they are our pets, we love both. As God loves all His different kinds HE Created. So racism is when someone bullies and disrespect you as a human as being un welcome and being rejected as not good enough... Jesus taught to love eachother and is not a respector of person in race or status...

The Coloured part is interesting to me coz you actually don't look coloured, you look like an African/black girl from SA. If I bump into you only your accent would give you away. Enjoy your stay 😊
Being coloured, from Zambia to South Africa, is about having at least one non-black African ancestor, and not about skin colour. The more South you go, the lighter skinned the people get. I had a Xhosa friend who was so light skinned you could see the vericose veins in his skin, but he was not a coloured. Winne Mandela, Nelson Mandela, like many black South Africans, were what you black Americans call high yellow, but they were not coloureds. The light skin that abounds in South Africa and gradually recedes in frequency as you go north, arises from the fact that we Southern Bantu and some East African Bantu are part KhoiSan. The KhoiSan lived in the area spanning from the latitude of Zambia to South Africa. As we Bantu people migrated south, we mixed with them. The more south we moved, the more mixed with them we were. The Bantu who reached South Africa were already the ones with the highest percentage of KhoiSan genome, and they still mixed with the KhoiSan in South Africa. This is why many South Africans are light skinned, and the women have the wonderful shape everyone from Brazil to Russia envies. I am talking about the shape that Nikki Minaj, the Khardasians have tried to get with plastic surgery. In Africa, the more south you go, the more so you find this shape. In East Africa, around the area of Kenya and Tanzania, there were also KhoiSan who lived in their natural habitat. These also mixed with the Bantu, and that is why some East Africa Bantu look as if they are from eSwatini sometimes. South Africa should have had the largest KhoiSan population, but the KhoiSan were the first people to resist the incursion of white people into South Africa. The KhoiSan waged war against the white people, but lost eventually because the white people had just acquired guns, thanks to the chemical called gunpowder, that Marco Polo had just come back with from China. The white people then wiped out the free standing KhoiSan population through organised pogroms in which they would pay a few English pounds to anyone who returned with a severed KhoiSan head. These days, there are few if any pure KhoiSan in South Africa. The one who claim so often look like the mixed-race product of the rape of a KhoiSan woman by a white man. The pure KhoiSan are found in the largest numbers in Namibia and Botswana, living in the Kalahari desert. There is small number in Angola and Zambia, since the area in which the Khoisan live is at one and the same time adjacent to Zambia and Angola. ...

When "coloreds" get to the US, they'll definitely be black.
Thank you for the additional information 😊
Thanks for the vid. Love Joburg. I will be there in July.
Really? More than Cape Town?
Shopping bags was very interesting thing as they were for free and we called them the national flower! and in about 2 or 3 years you would not find one blowing around the street
With the aged infrastructure in the United States, not only will Loadshedding happen in the U.S. at some point, not more than a year ago, it was actually discussed. I'll be sure to invest in some of the fixes you mentioned.
In the old days, directing traffic at a busy intersection, was done by a traffic policeman. When the policeman was replaced by an electro-mechanical machine, the policeman was roboticized - hence robot.
It's my first time to watch and I enjoyed, I'll definitely subscribe
Thank you for watching 😊
In Canada we have to bring our own plastics bags when we go grocery shopping, otherwise tbey charge five cents per bag. Some stores only sell the cloth bags which are a $1.50
It seems its happening everywhere.
Yes joburg is not safe at some places but there's also a lot of places that are super safe in and around joburg were you can easily walk around with your phone.
What places should we avoid ?
I was a bit annoyed when you talked about the loadshedding because we are also not used to it😢we also hate it....
But then yoiu talked about the "robot", I literally laughed outloud 😂😂😂 very interesting 😊
Great information! Think I will just chill in Asia and just visit Africa from time to time!
Why? Come and try it out. Loadshedding has cut down quite abit these past 2 weeks.
There is scheduled outages in America as well (San Francisco, Michigan, New York, Texas, California) Dubai i know they had no power at some point during the World Cup, France has schedules as well, in some of these countries they call them rolling black outs. A lot of other places all over the world have scheduled power outages, its not an anomaly 😂
I can’t speak for Michigan but I have never experienced scheduled outages when I lived in San Francisco, California and New York City.
Nor when I have visited Dubai or Texas.

@@JaeScottStyle right what is that person talking about I lived in Michigan for over 30 years and there never been a schedule power outages.. power only went out doing bad weather or equipment failure.

I drink only tap water I have never been sick.

Thank you for the correction and the lesson. 🙏🏽
💯🎯
Just to give my 2 cent on this topic, my mother is a South Africa Xhosa woman and my father is from Germany where I am currently based, I grew up in Johannesburg and identify as black (Xhosa man) because I was raised in that culture although I clearly look mix race., there are so many times I have been mistaken as coloured but that is foreign to me because its entirely different culture. Even amongst coloured communities there's difference ie coloureds from Cape Town are different from Durban KZN coloureds they even speak two different languages.
Hi may i ask what is a child born of two different races called in the US ,
The term that is typically used in America is mixed-race, biracial or multiracial. This is people who identify with having two or more races within their genealogy.
@@JaeScottStyle I think here in Mzansi coloureds despite being born of black women they never wanted any thing to do with black people some still do , so its better to associate a person with what they like not forces them on things they hate.

I am also American living in South Africa and local people have asked me if I am coloured but I am a lighter/brown skin tone straight up black person... until they hear my accent and realise I'm not from here. South Africans also assume some of us American people are couloured based on our looks, but it doesn't necessarily mean that they or us are neglecting the history around couloured people.
Cookouts are also for everyone.❤️

There is small number in Angola and Zambia, since the area in which the Khoisan live is at one and the same time adjacent to Zambia and Angola. ...
Love the history..thank you
