Let's see some games, or even better, non-game programs.

I've got some financial software and things i can use on this (from what i can tell the floppy lot they came in they were used on some kind of compaq portable)
As for games...I'm still trying some on the 5170 to see what better runs on a 286. (its this 525 -ish collection of abandonware and freeware 80s dos games) Some run wayy to fast, and some later 80s ones seem to be sluggish or call for a much faster 286. Ill get around to that when i compare the portable ii and the 5170 head to head, do some benchmarking and things.

If it has a partition, don't you just need to format it from command prompt? Did I miss something? You'd only be using Fdisk if you need to create the partition thats already there.

That's just it...fdisk won't do anything. It won't delete it, it won't even attempt to alter it.
I asked on Facebook group, and the consensus is it uses a special driver when installing the drive to prep it for dos.

I just saw that the footage wasn't in the video.... But yea format basically would start, then stop, "unable to load Boot, unformat can not be saved, format terminated"
      I tried 6.22, 5.0, 3.1 even windows 98 boot floppy as a last resort...nothing

@@definitelycasualpcs8789 Looks like an XT-IDE should sidestep the problem. If you've cleared the bios with the battery. just check in case there's multiple drive types of the same capacity. supposed to be a sticker on the chassis saying what drive type its set to at factory from what I've read. I love old machines but hated the setup and diag even back then.... debug low level formats, setup on a disc, not in bios..... compaqs were the worst! (along with IBM PS2/70s!)

@preferredimage I have an xtide... I popped it in just to run check it for the keyboard.
And the only reason I'm using the hard card is that it works and that it's an era correct hard drive for the machine....
But once it dies then yea going to be swappinf in an ide to cf adapter, I found a manual that lists the drive sizes for the bios
