Ahtal-Ka is basically a massive praying mantis thing that uses threads to fling around and use massive bits of scrap metal to attack the hunters. It uses said threads to create a massive scrap metal dragon mech in the second phase, which is some of the craziest stuff I've seen in Monster Hunter. I hope they bring these over the top monsters to newer games as well.

Almost every monster hunter game has its version of proof of a hero play for the final phase of the "final boss" hunts in the game.
its basically tradition at this point.
proof of a hero always starts playing during the climax of the fights, essentially the monster is hearing YOUR theme song now because its on the defensive and you are the apex predator now.
its super motivating and always give me the chills when it happens.

It takes a bit of series context to quite feel how the Ahtal-Ka is, as a final boss, a love letter to the series, just like the game it's on. We got two pieces here:
The most simple, come MH4 and afterwards this one, there was a bit of a gimmick introduced of riding monsters. Climbing as well.
The other piece, y'see, is that MH games have always had this very vague constant of ancient civilization technology hanging around. It's not some sort of super-techno-wizard bull like in other series, mind you, it's more that the world has a decent amount of calamity-like monsters that have wiped a few kingdoms off the map. Harsh, but fairly expected when you live in a world like this. Ultimately, the tech is only in scattered leftovers and used in climatic encounters, now and then, as the way to produce massive (and I do mean massive) weaponry has been lost to time, at most it only gets transported rather than produced.
So... you get sent to what's basically a scrapyard of ancient tech ruins to hunt this praying-mantis that, by itself, doesn't seem like that much. Oh it's decently sized, maybe double your height, but compared to other monsters that's small potatoes. It's a bit of a confusing situation, I mean, MH is no stranger to making its final bosses amazing encounters, right? That's phase one's music, almost downtime in nature.
And then with the blast of the phase two music, this bug gathers this ancient tech scrap from all over the place, and creates a towering, giant scrap beast. A dragon itself, truly. The actual spectacle of the fight.
But see, the fun thing there is that the battle has five phases. It cycles through the bug, the mech, the bug, the mech, that's four phases. But the last one, after the scrap has been cleared entirely? Ahtal-Ka is very interesting because, like others have mentioned, Proof of a Hero is the climax main theme that's basically _our_ theme, but the love letter isn't finished. The actual moveset of this beast is akin to a puppet-master, and this is the part where it takes that ancient civilization weaponry and uses it, directly, on us. It's akin to fighting the tools that have been with us since very early on in the series.
Well, or tl;dr, this boss is kind of underwhelming out of context, so even with this set of songs being one of my favorites I can easily say it's probably not that great for people without said context, haha.

@@JordanJostar It's really rare, how the hype from this monster is how commonly the battle boils down to "tool ingenuity VS massive natural advantage", and the theming of this monster is one that dared to get on our level and turn into a final boss. By the time it reaches the end of the fight, it precisely uses a wheel and our greatest weapon, a dragonator, as its tools. It's great! No other clash with a monster has managed to claimed the slightest ownership of Proof of a Hero, but this one does!

Ahtal-Ka/Atoraru Ka is the final monster in Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate/Monster Hunter Double Cross. As the final MH Game in the old style before the new fifth Gen style and as a celebratory game. Ahtal Ka is made to be a unique monster and its final phase theme Hero's Proof is a remade version of MHs signature theme Proof of a Hero.
The fight is a love letter to MH fans and a massive send off to the first 4 MH Gens.

I didn't expect to hear this song on this channel ever. Anyhow, this boss is pretty much the best final boss battle in the entire franchise. Often the bosses suffer from being too tanky or too gimmicky. But this one doesn't. It shifts through 'small' and 'humongous' phases a few times, adding new attacks every phase advancement and by the end you get a heroic theme. Make no mistake though... that final phase is also the hardest. Although the theme makes you feel like a badass hero, this boss also has a reputation of wrecking a team of badass heroes in no time. I'd say it's pretty much a prime example of a perfect boss battle in gaming.

Phase 1 part of the medley is where you fight Athal-Ka as it spreads threads of silk intertwined in scrap metals and machinery throughout the fight. Second phase is where it pulls all its threads to form a mech where you fight the silk clumps to tear it apart and scale on the mechs body to reach the cocoon it seals itself in during the mech phase. Third phase is where you collapse the mech and becomes the final stretch, no holds barred, tussle survival of the fittest, you're close but not there yet as it still looms as a threat until defeated.
    Edit:Typo

Ahtal-Ka is based on an Egyptian sphinx crossed with a devil's flower mantis, while looking like it's dressed like a Pharaoh (golden coat, golden headdress).
The reason behind it being split into phase 1/3 and 2/4 is due to how the fight progresses, it starts with a direct attack on Ahtal-Ka inside its lair in a desert that's layered with its threads, for phase 2 it uses those threads to drag up a giant metal shell which looks like a whole new monster that it pilots like a giant mech, using the threads to control it while Ahtal-Ka is safely inside.
Phase 2 ends once you climb the mech and break enough of the threads to server Ahtal-Ka's control of it to force it back out, it then repeats phase 1 with some new moves before rebuilding the mech again for phase 4.
Final phase happens once you finally break down the mech for good, facing it head on once more while this games own main theme starts up, so this specific hunter's theme in other words. The irony of it here is that the final showdown is you, the human using monster parts as your weapon fighting Ahtal-Ka, the monster that is now using manmade tools as its own weapon to fight back.

While the Main Theme part, which is specifically the "Proof of a Hero" theme, is not exclusive to this monster, *it is used* for the climactic final boss hunts, when you're close to defeating the monster, and as Ahtal-Ka is one of those special Final Boss monsters, he uses that music as his final section.
Hence why you felt it was so different from the rest of the Medley.

The whole Monster Hunter "redemption arc" on this channel is very amusing since it mirrors Monster Hunter itself for a lot of people when they first play it, where it takes a while for it to click. Of course ever since the 5th generation with World/Rise they've been much easier for new players to get into but there's still so much to learn for new players that longtime players just take for granted. For a good amount of people trying Monster Hunter for the first time, there's this hurdle to overcome and only if they press on until a point where it all clicks for them will they see why it's such a beloved and addictive franchise.
Ahtal-Ka itself is to this date still my favorite "final boss" spanning the entire main series. A lot of these kind of fights are cool for a while but really lose their spectacle on further hunts. This fight never really did and boy did I hunt a lot of them to make its armor and all of its weapons. The mix between a spectacle phase and just a general normal-sized monster fight that keeps you on your toes really does wonders for that.

Your comment about the music getting proggresively lighter to me has something to do with the feeling of how with each step you're getting closer victory, the fight gets harder and harder, but as you get closet to defeat the monster the music motivates you forward, tickling your brain with the main game's motif to signify how close victory is at hand

Mmmmm, it's just not the same without the sound effects of the distorted screech vibrating through the scrap puppet when it's summoned!
3:14 Ah, yes, the nylon guitar is my FAVORITE part of this track. Because it's clearly designed to imitate the sound of high tension wire under strain. If you've ever spent a lot of time on a large suspension bridge, you'll know what I mean. And it's just so thematic for the monster because it spins ultra strong silk and manipulates pieces of towns and fortresses it has raided like a puppeteer to form and pilot its colossal armor.

Ah Athal-Ka the golden empress, a mysterious mantis like creature clad in golden carapace, it lives deep within the desert and sometimes attacks large structures like fortresses and citys to aquire materials for its nest, wich is a giagantic moving faximiliy of a dragon wich it controlls via strings that it spinns from silk.
When Athal-Ka attacks it uses its strings to fling arround objects as if its using weapons (a steel girder, a broken piece of a giant drill, a huge wheel), when its pushed it will retrest into its Nest, the Athal-Neset wich it uses to crush fortresses underneath its shire weight.

The coolest part about this monster is the build up to it. Throughout the game you hear hints, whispers, of something devastating local environments. No one is really sure *what* it is, but the closest description you get is that it’s like a walking castle, that disappears randomly without a trace. Any MH player knows that it’s going to be the final boss, but once you get the quest for it at the end of the game… it’s just a bug? It’s a big bug, and it’s a little tricky with its threads that it’s spinning, but it’s not *that* dangerous.
Then, she starts shooting her thread at the ground and pulls up this huge pile of ruined machines, strung together with golden silk. The bug made herself a mecha. And THAT is phase 2. The revelation that this creature is far more intelligent than anyone realized.
The last phase is after you break the mecha (called the Ahtal Neset or the Empress’ Throne) and the *screech* this creature gives will always stick with me.
MH is soooo good man. You gotta check out “Guidance” from MH World. It’s another very different sound and one I think you would like.

The last part is this games main theme, it wasnt originally made for this fight but it does kick in during the fifth phase of it, this is somewhat of a monster hunter tradition, usually the music during the final boss fight will change to the main theme if you fullfill some condition (usually hitting the monster with some form of giant siege weapon).
In this game there is no special condition, this just starts playing as soon as Athal-Ka enters phase 5.
It does have some symbolism though during the last phase Athal-Ka will use a gigantik 4 pronged wheel as a weapon, a symbol heavily associated with the Hunters Guild and the history of the monster hunter series.
The simbol of a four pronged emblem also resembles the games logo with the four sides reprisenting the four generations of monster hunter games before this one.
Generations Ultimate is kind of like a best of from the older games, its a big anniversary game thats a sort of bookend for the old era of monster hunter with it being the last game released before the series got redefined by World.

so Ahtal Ka to is the final boss of Generations Ultimate when you hit the end of the highest hunting tier G-Rank. Honestly to this day she is still my absolute favorite final boss fight in the entire franchise. To explain the phase 2/4 music and the thing you were looking at, thats "Ahtal-Neset" basically Ahtal-Ka takes all the junk in the arena and using her threads conjoins it into basically a giant towering mech suit that she puppets from the middle with strings. At that point in the fight you essentially need to climb on it and take out threads keeping it together before going to the core to attack Ahtal-Ka to break her out. Also as a fun note, the big purple bits/red bits you see on her actually aren't her eyes, its a defense mechanism to make her seem more imposing. Her actual eyes are just the tiny lil back dots in the middle.

One of my favorite themes for example is Zinogre and I love it and just bop my head along with it, when I'm fighting the monster, but when I hear the music outside of context I still enjoy it, but it feels somewhat incomplete without the monster howling over it and the weapon sounds.
