I remember when KMEL was awesome. For me in my day, 89 was the best through half of 2000. Here is the list of DJs who I used to love listening to. The late Michael Erickson, the late Rick chase, the morning zoo crew, but I like the version with Bill Lee and Davey d. Leslie Stoval, The Love man Kevin Nash, Evan luck, rosary, Lisa Saint Regis, The Up all night show with trace and franzen, foxy Brown, Gill Alexander, Billy vidal, renel, and my personal favorite that I still love today efren sifuentes. He practically substituted for anybody and everybody who was on the DJ roster back in the day. I forgot one more person on the list. Chuy gomez.
Street Soldiers taught me sooo much growing up. This channel was progressive and deserves more recognition. There’s something about being in the community, hearing local djs and feeling an authentic part of it all. Thank you, KMEL.
I remember Evan Luck since he was doing overnights on Chicago's WGCI-FM 107.5, also on 92.3 THE BEAT in L.A.. He's currently doing afternoons 5-7(CT) in Costa Rica's 99.5 radio dos.
IN 2021 KMEL is at the bottom n not to mention how bad the hiphop music is Today...I loved KMEL before iHeartRadio has Taken over it and that is when the music got really bad.
Well, this isn't the COMPLETE history of KMEL as it had a rock format when it first got those call letters, from 1977 til 1984 when it went to crappy top 40 and then leaned more towards R&B and rap like Sacramento's KSFM also did. And of course it had several other call letters before 1977 including KFRC-FM.
I know one thing I won't forget waiting on that dame bomb Summer jammmmm

Love lines with the real EVAN LUCK. Back when New Kids on The Block was on hit. And Jonny O's Fantasy Girl. Dedications and stuff.
What about "THE LATE GREAT 88' POWERMIX!" By Cameron Paul. That was cool
I listened to rock on KMEL a lonnng time ago.
They didn't even take time to explain that KMEL was a pop & rock station at first. My hs had "camel"dances. Anyways...
iRemember Evan Luck. "Battle of The Rappers" that was me family.. "WORD 2 DA D"! formerly known as (D-Elite). Still "Swagelle Spittin".

For the disrespect shown to Short and other artists, somebody should've hit that station years ago...

Hey! If it weren't for the Top 40/CHR era of KMEL we wouldn't play Hip-Hop and R&B in the 1st Kamel place!
