Agreed. It takes away from the emotional rollercoaster and engagement to just casually throw in an ad in the middle of discussing someone being murdered, etc...
9:07 Yeah… I’m not buying that. I think Dennis knew *exactly* how old this poor boy, because that’s what he was - a boy, was. I also think that the age of 14 holds significance in Dennis’s life so not only do I NOT believe that he was unaware of Steven’s age but I think there’s even a possibility that he picked him _because_ of his exact age. And, I mean, just looking at Steven’s photo and I can tell that there’s no way he’s 17 because he still has such a baby face.
The lesson we should all learn is to never flush your KFC down the toilet cos they’ll charge you for horrific crimes. His excuse for getting rid of bodies. ://
*I've always found it quite fascinating that Dennis Nilsen and Jeffrey Dahmer had SO much in common, with so many parallels throughout each of their lives.* *-They both joined the army.* *-They both struggled with their sexuality.* *-Their first (known) victims were both named "Steven."* *-They both struggled with alcoholism.* *-They both had jobs that were impacted (usually by missing work), due to their ongoing compulsion to kill (and/or spend time with their victims.)* *-They both had problems of neighbors complaining of rancid smells coming from their apartments.* *-They both engaged in acts of necrophilia with their victims.* *-When Dennis and Jeffrey were finally caught, they were both in their apartments and found with dismembered body parts of their victims.* *And the list of even more commonalities goes on from there. They also both had very similar motivations for their killings (mainly being that they both had an extreme fear of abandonment.) I've always thought...had these two somehow been able to find each other, they could have possibly been perfect for one another (and then, maybe no one would have "had to" die.)*
11:56 Sorry if I sound crude here but what the hell? There’s NO way that that entire apartment wouldn’t have absolutely wreaked with the stench of decomposition. It’s a one-of-a-kind, unmistakable smell that permeates everything around it. Now, sure, Dennis _does_ live alone but you saw how close the next door apartments were to his. How did they not know from the get-go? Additionally, he had burned a body in his backyard… in the middle of central London for goodness sake. Have you ever smelled burnt hair? Like, maybe you accidentally lit a strand while lighting a cigarette or candle or maybe you left the curling iron in a spot too long. If you’ve smelled that smell you know it’s awful and I can guarantee you the smell of burning flesh is ten times more awful _and,_ one would think, more noticeable. Like Savannah said, so many things should have caught this guy up before he actually did, chief among them being the constant smell coming from this monsters apartment.
Hello again savannah and I'm blessed with another incredible video and chilling case. the case/story is one of the most disturbing crimes I've ever heard in all my years, that man was clearly a sick monster!😱
Love your videos, you speak so eloquently! Been enjoying your videos since Amazon must haves and your true crime videos have become some of my fave! My best to you Savannah!! :)
Savannah, I am so glad you are pronouncing Des's surname correctly. The amount of people that say "Neilson" instead of "Nilsen" drives me insane. It would also annoy Des 😒. Great coverage of this case 🏴
It's crazy how people say" back in the day was so much safer " I actually think it was worse back then. Because police work was not as good? What do you all think
Back in the day was a lot safer!! We never had to worry about playing outside/around town and possibly being kidnapped, no real burglaries in the neighborhoods, no murders, no crazies, etc., etc. If I could go back in a time capsule, I would be the first on board. The world nowadays is c-r-a-z-y balls!!!! We didn't need DNA genealogy stuff back then since nothing bad really hardly ever happened. Our local cops wouldn't even let our Mexican boyfriends drive through our neighborhood at the time without being pulled over. People cared about each other and looked out for each other back then. I feel like now it's just a dog-eat-dog world. I don't feel safe even walking alone outside where I live for exercise with all of the crime. Take a chance of getting carjacked w/all of the carjackings here in Chicago. You take your chances as well when you take the "el" here, which is shady ass public transportation. Too many shootings, robberies, muggings, on and on. So, yes, considering my age -- nearly 49 now -- back in the day was a million times safer.
I think it's a mix of back in the day there wasn't too much coverage on kidnappings, murderers, etc. and police weren't that educated on how to properly investigate a crime scene. Some old cases have people from all over town, neighbors, family members, police, firefighters and so on, enter crime scenes and completely contaminate it. Some cases have no DNA collection at all. Now, it hasn't changed much but it's definitely better when it comes to police work, coverage and investigations. Now, it's always been dangerous for a child to play outside by themselves but now, human trafficking is a huge one, beforenit wasn't as "active". Now there's people in every state, looking for victims to take. Huge organizations dedicated solely on kidnappings and technology being their #1 advantage. It's awful all aroud. Now It's even more dangerous because of social media but it has always been dangerous in my opinion.
@@oAgL214 I agree, I think there wasn't any social media and the news didn't really cover crime. I mean there's tons of old cases. Manson, the girl in a box case was from hitchhiking way back in the day, when it was allegedly safer. There's a UA-cam channel named Gabulosis, that only covers "vintage" crime. Every case she covers is at least 20 years old.
There wasnt information available at your fingertips before.. people weren't as aware of what was going on around the world as we are today. Its always been unsafe.
You read through the case so fast that it's hard to get a feeling whether or not you care. Or pay attention or just reading a script and cant wait to get over it. Sorry, my friends got the same feeling.
It was also illegal to be gay in England, it came up recently about giving them compensation for being imprisoned back then. I'm not entirely sure but up until the late 60's, people were being imprisoned.
28:51 So, I’m not sure if it was Dennis himself who spoke on the topic of motive years after his initial confession or if it was speculation by psychologists but I’m pretty sure the motive that is now attached to these murders is that Dennis was petrified of being alone. He really loathed the idea of having a hook-up just for that person to immediately leave the next morning. By killing them he was able to control how much time they spent together and then it was Dennis who had the power over his “guests”, meaning he decided when he was done with them. It seems like ultimately he just wanted a partner but I believe he had a good bit of self awareness, kind of knowing that he was an odd character and that this would more than likely keep anyone from being in a long term commitment with him. I mean, I think _most_ people would maybe try to make some changes and try to have patience with the hope they’d eventually meet someone. I think _most_ people would stop having one-night stands and would start looking for a partner who has similar goals to theirs but, in the understatement of the year, Dennis Nilsen was NOT most people. He took his need for instant gratification to sickening extremes.
Dennis definitely seemed to be a phycopathic individual and to think about the horrific things that he had done makes me nauseous to my stomach!! To be perfectly honest I'll never understand why people do the things that they do?!! WOW!!
Childhood is a crucial part of our lives. Most kids who are neglected or abused turn out to be sociopaths. Also, psychopaths are born so 🤷🏻♀️, that's how.
Why is it that literally all serial killers have something about their appearance or stare that gives it away? You can tell something's definitely off. Not to try and stereotype but it never fails. Either they dress up like this guy with that similar hair style, their look is empty, no "soul" left in that body or they're too charming it feels fake. Anyone else?
Long time follower - always been a supporter and enjoyed your videos. And while I respect the work that goes into the videos & understand this is a job, the amount of ads in the videos - for how short they are- is excessive... (7 minutes on a 25 minute case)... it is one thing to raise awareness about cases and have an ad in a short video... but I find the amount of product pushing in a short video takes away from the respect towards the case and it seems more selfish... for this reason, I am unfollowing.
Not to nitpick but I’m _pretty_ sure that at the point when Dennis switched from burying the bodies in the floorboards & yard and started attempting to flush body parts it was because he had moved into a new apartment. I believe he changed his disposal method not really out of choice but more because he lacked many options in his new residence. I’m surprised Dennis didn’t think that through beforehand but thank god he didn’t because this is obviously what finally lead to him being caught. But yeah, I’m pretty sure he moved and his new residence was a second or third floor walk-up with little to no yard and because of this it would have made it pretty much impossible to get a body down two flights of stairs. For one, a full grown man that is literal dead weight is heavy as hell. And two, there’s a *very* high likelihood that someone will see you. It boggles my mind how he thought flushing body parts was a viable option, though. However, even though Dennis actually had a pretty high IQ he was always a low achiever and I’m sure that played into his lazy and unimaginative disposal methods.
