Spoiler alert: Maximus Decimus Meridius is dead, so he's not in Gladiator 2. A Gladiator prequel would have been a better movie; Gladiator 2 felt like a rehash of the original movie.

Was very much NOT impressed by any aspect of the sequel, and the lead was not convincing. Nor did I feel that he at any point did or act in a way to earn the respect and adoration of the people or his fellow gladiators.
