Awesome video brother. Love how you let quail hunting speak for itself, you put no cut on it. That’s why it’s beautiful, simple, pure. Congrats on the baby.
I hunt wild bobs in central and south Fl. It’s a sport of little glamor but finding a covey or two is all you can hope for, and that makes the day good. Whether you kill or not. I have a 4 year old GSP female reminds me of your girl. She’s really coming to be great. Waiting on a pup from standing stone spring 25!
None of the public ground I've hunted so far has been bare like that. The briars seem to be getting my dog's feet tore up. I'm considering putting boots on her if I have to keep hunting that stuff. The fields I have been on are so shoulder tall. Back in CA along rivers I've valley quail and Pheasants get up out of similar stuff. I don't know if it's worth my time with the Bobs though. The grass you're commenting on almost looks like knee high Sharpetail habitat.
I hunt a variety of habitat, I think they just have to adapt to it and build up a tolerance on their pads. I normally hunt thick, briars but have found a little different habitat this year!
If you have a sharp weather change from cold to hot during the hunting season or from hot to cold during nesting season I have seen birds use a lower level limb on a tree.
It definitely threw me off! I’ve seen it up in Kansas after a covey has gotten up but never that early in the morning. They could have been busted up the night before.
I think it just kinda depends on what they have, in this video I was hunting some areas with great habitat but in years past I hunted thicker areas that hold birds too. I think it’s all about food and cover and these places had a ton of food in certain places that held a concentration of birds!
Great Video Garrett!
@@michaelbeck681 thanks!

I appreciate it man. I wish I could truly show how special a good quail hunt is, I’m just trying to get as close as I can when I show y’all.

What battery pack setup are you running? I'm tired of stopping to change batteries on my GoPro 10.
I use a battery pack and run a cord from my vest to the go pro with a battery covert that has an opening on it.
Based on this video, I am hunting WAY too thick of cover here in SC. maybe that’s why I can’t find any birds
