It's true. Archer is the Uber-Bond. It even pokes fun at his recklessness through his apparent awareness that he miraculously pulls through impossible odds too often.
I think that's the funniest thing about Archer. He's got such a toxic personality and such an obvious slew of mental issues, but he keeps winning because of it so he never has to change. It's self-aware of his negative sides but is also a celebration of how ridiculously awesomely fun it is.
Bless you man. Being an Indian who speaks Telugu, this was was so nostalgic to revisit Krishna's movies from 70s and 80s. The man was so committed to entertain audiences he used to sign on for more than 10 films in a single year. Besides the stylish James Bond knockoffs, he also starred in Curry Westerns which were staple of the 70s in Southern India.

In most Indian movies, you dont see this tongue in cheek self awareness that they are ripping off something popular because a lot of people from small towns and villages dont watch hollywood movies. Because these films are catering to those unknown people, they play it straight. If they do parodies, they will be a 100% parody like airplane or hot shots.

She was in several of the (rock n roll) Wrestling Women Vs…movies. She went on to be an actress in commercials and a Las Vegas show girl. Before meeting my dad and having me. Thus ending her entertainment career. I found many of her movie posters online a few years ago and had them framed. My mom finds it all pretty silly. But I think it’s awesome!

Even stranger is that people cast in the unofficial Casino Royale ‘67 and Never Say Never again managed to get cast in a proper Bond film afterwards, with Angela Scoular in On her majesty’s secret service and Manning Redwood in View to a Kill.
Right at the very end, one of the most wonderful automated subtitling errors EVER: Archer is identified not as a "manwhore" but as a "manhole", a term which is so perfectly fitting as an insult that I completely forgot it's also an actual noun.
I'm friends with the guy that CGI animated Brosnan arctic kite surfing in Die Another Day. The story is fascinating, they CGI was terrible because it was a last minute decision, animated by rookies, and Brosnan had no idea what was going on or how he was supposed to me.

Some of these I wouldn't call 'Bond Knock-Offs', the Matt Helm movies were based on their own series of books written by Donald Hamilton, the first of which was published in 1960, and Modesty Blaise was based on a popular comic strip.
Have only recently discovered this brilliant channel, and as a Mystery Science Theater 3000 and Rifftrax, I've seen many of these good/bad films, so it's great to see someone else talking about them. 😁👌

No idea why, but this reminds me of a tongue in cheek Canadian show called Murdoch Mysteries about a turn of the twentieth century detective. It has an intermittent character who is an inept, Canadian version of James Bond who fights in a secret Cold War with America. Needless to say, it's played for laughs.

I was watching this inside a coffee shop. Had a very difficult time trying not to spew the coffee to two people sitting in the next table. I was convulsed with suppressed laughter and swelling tears. Made me recall the sensation of nearly drowning in a beach when I was 18.
The best Bond clone is probably Lupin the third. Globe trotting Adventures, a sexy woman that is an all encompassing Bond Girl in Fujiko Mine, a stylish dressed man and master of disguise in Lupin. Bond type villains. Tricked out cars he also sometimes makes his own gadgets, he doesn't need Q. He's basically Bond but better.
lupin the 3rd is more like phantom of pink panther. well if lupin held his cool more and was older. inspector makes an appearance too. or well, arsene lupin who the 3rd is named after and phantom is done after as well I suppose, the gentleman thief.
I can't imagine Lupin III beating a man to death in a bathroom like in Casino Royale. But then again it's not super easy to imagine Moore or Brosnan's Bond doing that.

If you want a DANISH Bond, I can recommend "Slå først frede": A salesman is mistaken for at seceret agent and is used to smoke out an organisation of baddies. The Salesman is s typical done to earth dane, not heroic. All the tropes are there: an unknown evil mastermind, beautiful girls, gadgets and foolery. It was made in 1965 I think and the production value is great - all great danish actors from the era is featured.

Jesus...! I might have been 8 when I've seen "Freddie as F.R.O.7" with my class in now long defunct Kino Ognisko ("Campfire" Cinema) in Wroclaw, Poland. It somehow managed to make just enough of an impression, that I kept some very, very vague but intrusive memories of it for all the years to come. And now, after 3 decades I can put those memories to rest and FINALLY stop looking for it. A dauntless task which most probably I'd otherwise never finish, given that most if not all of my "memories" of the movie became by now misplaced pictures and stories of other amphibian-related media I've been absorbing since. Freddie from F.R.O.7 (or Freddie the Frog as it was called here in the U.S.) was a movie my brother and I watched a lot as kids. I have no idea how our parents came across it, other than it was probably a cheap vhs! I didn't realize until I was older how prolific the voice cast was, or its history as a flop.

Being a young Bond fan I was one of the only American kids to actually go and see Freddie as FRO7 in a theatre. I haven't been able to see it since unfortunately, but I wouldn't mind revisiting it now as an adult. I remember liking it, but there were times where I've mentioned it and no one else remembers it to where I thought I'd imagined it! After watching this I have many more titles to try and check out that I haven't seen. Big Zapper looked entertaining as hell so that's a top priority.
No mention for the Eiger Sanction or The Brotherhood of the Rose I get where he was coming from with this list as a 'spy' genre but government sponsored assassins should have been included, I mean how many times did Bond ever spy on the Russians to steal top secret files? His whole thing is to be told there is a problem then murder the shit out of people. The best State sponsored assassin film made was 1990's Le femme Nakita by Luc Besson wasn't even mentioned and the second and third best ones were, Point of No Return and Atomic Blonde I would understand if they were cheap unknown films that were bad but they were excellent films and should have had a large segment dedicated to them, I mean Red Sparrow wasn't mentioned as it wasn't that good but .

No idea if you included this in your research ... but there is a bunch of "Bond-ish" parodies from the 70s ... featuring a yellow VW Beetle car (called "Dudu", which is also the title of the movies) equipped with loads of gadgets (it can fly and swim, attach itself to the truck in front to save fuel, beat up bad guys with its bonnet and loads of other parts) ... and it is driven by "Jimmy Bondi", little brother of James. The movies are entertaining for little children below 10.
I actually saw HARD TICKET TO HAWAII at my hometown movie theater in 1987. I can tell you that the audience was a mix of amused and weirded out as we all thought we were going to see a nationally released film. That was the first and only night HTTH showed at the mall’s CINEMA 4.
We had a number of Bondian inspired films here in Egypt. For example There's the 1969 crime/espionage film "الشيطان" El Shaitan (The Devil), starring onscreen tough-guy Farid Shawqi. Another 1969 Bond inspired film starring Farid Shawqi, " العميل77" El Ameel 77 (Agent 77), which is a more lighthearted film as he shares the billing with popular three-man comedy team, Tholathy Adwa Al Masrah (The Spotlight Theatre Trio) And there's 1989's " العميل 13" Al-Ameel Raqam 13 (Agent No.13), a spy parody starring Egyptian comedian, Mohamad Sobhi I had links to the films but UA-cam removed the comment. I've watched some of the German Kommissar X films and I enjoyed them, also I do remember one of the Lemmy Caution (the protagonist of 1965's French New Wave neo-noir film Alphaville) films, "Lemmy pour les dames" dabbled in some of the Bond tropes 77

It was recommended but I thought it didn't sound very Bondy. You're not alone in suggesting it as an oversight, though, so I think I'll have to chalk it up as a missed opportunity. Next time!

@greyone308 - Starring Ray Danton, right? I remember seeing an SASD trailer when, many years ago, I went to the cinema to see a blaxploitation movie called "Slaughter", with Jim Brown (which, to some extent, is also a Bond rip-off)!
Being a young Bond fan I was one of the only American kids to actually go and see Freddie as FRO7 in a theatre. I haven't been able to see it since unfortunately, but I wouldn't mind revisiting it now as an adult. I remember liking it, but there were times where I've mentioned it and no one else remembers it to where I thought I'd imagined it! After watching this I have many more titles to try and check out that I haven't seen. Big Zapper looked entertaining as hell so that's a top priority.

I get where he was coming from with this list as a 'spy' genre but government sponsored assassins should have been included, I mean how many times did Bond ever spy on the Russians to steal top secret files? His whole thing is to be told there is a problem then murder the shit out of people.
The best State sponsored assassin film made was 1990's Le femme Nakita by Luc Besson wasn't even mentioned and the second and third best ones were, Point of No Return and Atomic Blonde
I would understand if they were cheap unknown films that were bad but they were excellent films and should have had a large segment dedicated to them, I mean Red Sparrow wasn't mentioned as it wasn't that good but .
@@chinabluewho It's probably just a matter of not being able to cover every single relevant film. I'm sure we could think of several decent movies he didn't include. For example: Cloak & Dagger, the 1984 film in which a government spy, played by Dabney Coleman, teams up with then-child actor Henry Thomas. I loved that movie when I was young.

No idea if you included this in your research ... but there is a bunch of "Bond-ish" parodies from the 70s ... featuring a yellow VW Beetle car (called "Dudu", which is also the title of the movies) equipped with loads of gadgets (it can fly and swim, attach itself to the truck in front to save fuel, beat up bad guys with its bonnet and loads of other parts) ... and it is driven by "Jimmy Bondi", little brother of James. The movies are entertaining for little children below 10.

I actually saw HARD TICKET TO HAWAII at my hometown movie theater in 1987. I can tell you that the audience was a mix of amused and weirded out as we all thought we were going to see a nationally released film. That was the first and only night HTTH showed at the mall’s CINEMA 4.

We had a number of Bondian inspired films here in Egypt.
For example There's the 1969 crime/espionage film "الشيطان" El Shaitan (The Devil), starring onscreen tough-guy Farid Shawqi. Another 1969 Bond inspired film starring Farid Shawqi, " العميل77" El Ameel 77 (Agent 77), which is a more lighthearted film as he shares the billing with popular three-man comedy team, Tholathy Adwa Al Masrah (The Spotlight Theatre Trio)
And there's 1989's " العميل 13" Al-Ameel Raqam 13 (Agent No.13), a spy parody starring Egyptian comedian, Mohamad Sobhi

I've watched some of the German Kommissar X films and I enjoyed them, also I do remember one of the Lemmy Caution (the protagonist of 1965's French New Wave neo-noir film Alphaville) films, "Lemmy pour les dames" dabbled in some of the Bond tropes 77
