For as long as humans have dreamed of flight, women - just as often as men - have envisioned themselves piloting a craft through the skies toward faraway lands.
Although it may have taken women a little longer to ‘wo-man’ the helm so to speak, that hasn’t stopped women from making their mark on aviation. In this video, we highlight the top 10 women in aviation. We hope that this inspires others to follow in their wing steps.

Why are people so amazed that women can fly planes, drive tanks, go to space, be snipers or whatever. There have been female pilots since the 1920's to this day. Anyone can become a pilot all you need is practice, determination and most importantly you have to love what you are doing.
Wife and I both have a private pilots license have so since we met we both learned in our teens. Now 30yrs later we own our own Cirrus SR21 and have around 3-4khrs each. Wife also has a commercial rating as well but we only fly for sport. We were both in the Germany Army and both still in the reserves. Women can do anything a guy can some even better.
I’m not amazed. I was in the Air Force and tests actually proved that women made better pilots than men. OoRAH
Male pilots are better than female pilots in all aspects of flying. So, there are separate women’s world records for speed, altitude, and distance records in aviation for only women. All these women's aviation records are much lower than the men's aviation records. If female pilots can perform as well as male pilots, what is the need for separate men's and women's aviation records.. Example.. Fastest speed achieved by male pilot was Mach 6.70 (about 7,200 km/h) , while the fastest speed achieved by female pilot was just over Mach 2 (about 2,300 km/h). So, we can see that the fastest male pilot had flown more than 3 times faster than the fastest female pilot. That is difference in standard between the top male and female pilots.
But, the reality does not follow feminism.. 1.. If female pilots can fly planes as good as male pilots, then what is the need for a separate women's category competition for only female pilots in International Aerobatic Championships.. Why are female pilots afraid to compete against the male pilots in the open category. Why are these female pilots demanding a separate women's only competition, if female pilots can perform as good as male pilots. There are separate International Feminine Aerobatic Championships, because female pilots were unable to defeat the more skilled male pilots in these flying competitions and so women pilots never won any medals in international flying competitions. So, women have demanded separate women's only flying competition for female pilots so that they can win some medals.. A female pilot maybe able to fly an airbus or Boeing passenger plane as well as a male pilot. But, when it comes to fighter planes that have to do sudden changes in speed and direction and need extreme skillful movements and sudden ascent and descent , female fighter pilots are no match for the more skilled male fighter pilots.
2. Formula 1 car racing.. Female drivers are allowed to compete against men in formula 1 car racing. But, even though many female drivers have taken part, no woman was able to defeat the male drivers and win medals. So, now women drivers are now started a separate women's only car racing competition called An all-female W Series - a single-seater racing championship in 2019. If female drivers are equally skilled as male drivers , why are female drivers afraid of competing against male drivers.
3.. 4x4 off roading .. Female drivers are allowed to compete against male drivers in 4x4 off roading . But, even though many female drivers have taken part, no woman was able to defeat the male drivers and win medals. So, now women drivers are now started a separate women's only 4x4 off roading competition for female drivers.. If female drivers are equally skilled as male drivers , why are female drivers afraid of competing against male drivers.
4.. Shooting using gun.. Female shooters are allowed to compete against men in shooting. But, even though many female shooters have taken part, no woman was able to defeat the male shooters and win medals. So, women shooters had started separate women's only shooting competition for female shooters in Olympics etc.. If female shooters are equally skilled as male shooters , why are female shooters afraid of competing against male shooters. So, we can see that even in the case of a small hand held machine like a gun, it is a man who is able to produce a better performance using the same machine. While women who are unable to produce an equal performance from the same machine like plane, formula 1 car, off roader, gun etc. have started competing in separate women's only competition using the same machine like plane, formula 1 car, off roader, gun etc. because women are always getting defeated by men, and so women are unable to win any medals when competing against men using the same machines. That Mach 6.7 speed is on a specialized plane, not a typical fighter. Have any women flown that plane capable of that speed? I served time in the military and can tell you women are just as capable as men.

I had a female when I was going for my instrument rating. She was fantastic in teaching and you remembered everything that she taught me. Now 71 I can say she was my best instructor during my 50 years of flying.

The greatest female fighter pilot of all time is Lilya Litvyak, with an official tally of 12 confirmed kills against Germany in 1943.
The white flowers painted on her Yak-1 earned her the nickname of "The White Lily of Stalingrad."
She was last seen diving into a cloud with as many as eight German fighters attacking her. Just before the breakup of the USSR, Mikhail Gorbachev awarded Litvyak a posthumous Hero of the Soviet Union, one of the very last.

If there is any female pilot in the world who is better than the top male pilots, then why is that no female pilot in the world is competing against and winning against the best male pilots in aerobatic competitions. Example.. a female taxi car driver can drive a taxi car in the city roads that have a maximum speed limit of 30 kmph as good as a male taxi driver. But, when it comes to formula 1 car racing where the male formula 1 Car drivers are driving at above 370 kmph, female formula 1 car drivers are unable to reach anywhere near 300 kmph , and so female formula 1 car drivers are unable to win any medals. So, they have started a separate W series of racing for only women. The same example of taxi car and formula 1 car applies to airbus passenger plane and fighter plane... A female taxi car driver can drive a taxi car in the city as well as a male taxi car driver. But, can a female formula 1 car driver drive a formula 1 car as well as a male formula 1 car driver. The same difference applies to Boeing passenger plane and fighter plane. A female pilot can fly a Boeing passenger plane as well as a male pilot, but can a female pilot do an attack in fighter plane as well as a male pilot.

If you all teach your daughters well and don’t treat them differently to your son you will have more successful women. Unfortunately far too many people know this and push them down on purpose.

You missed another female F18 pilot of US Navy. Her name is Elizabeth Pham. She joined to a multiple operations in Middle East, Afghanistan, etc … and been promoted as Lieutenant Colonel. She is the top gun pilot who land on the Aircraft Carrier.
How can a naval aviator be a lieutenant colonel? Is she a Marine Corps officer?

Kudos to all these ladies but nobody comes close to Gen Dawn Dunlop. She flew F15s in Bosnia, tested F22s when they came out and was CO of Edwards Test Pilot school among many other achievments!
General Dawn Dunlop was one of the greatest Female Fighter Pilot undoubtedly too.
But she was fired from SAPCO in Jan 2019 for being abusive to her subordinates and forced to retire.
