Clara Lieu was an Adjunct Professor at the Rhode Island School of Design from 2007-2020. Her artwork has been exhibited at the International Print Center NY, the Currier Museum, Childs Gallery, the Davis Museum, and more. Lieu received an artist fellowship from the MA Cultural Council, has written for the NY Times, and lectured at Brown University, the NAEA conference, and in Vancouver & China. I agree with Professor Lieu's mention of working with local printers. I was printer for years and I can promise you that there's no "right" way to print a good piece of art, but there are excellent options that become part your style that should be considered. Many in-house services allow for test prints to achieve something better based on your needs and for you to approve the final print so your order is 100% to your liking. You don't ever pay for a "meh" print. These labs also employ knowledgeable staff that can help you achieve what you want with a simple consultation as part of their services, be it photography or art prints.
Example: I am a photographer that likes my color saturation and contrast pumped up ever so. My B&W photos I always preferred printed on metallic paper. Both give the overall look a pop without overdoing it. This is something that is best perfected in house with your printer. When you continue to use them, they know your preferences and they can always start from there.
This is such great advice! Sometimes artists without much printing experience will end up paying way too much money for wonky prints/merch (myself included!), but local printers tend to be so understanding and actually help make the process easy. Thanks for watching! - Mia Rozear, Art Prof Staff

There's not much that we can actively do, but I would recommend Stickermule, Zazzle, or The Studio for merch websites! I've used all three & have been happy with the results :) artprof.org/community/join-us-on-discord/
What is your stand on selling downloadable artwork/designs on the cheap through Creative Market or Etsy for example? Does it hurt the industry in general?
