It's so good for the soul to see this video. Thank you so much. It is much needed! We are going through major house renovation for 2 years now and anything spare I spend is all for Vinted clothes! I really do not need them and feel so inspired to join you in this challenge. I think it is also important to think as to what are we going to replace this dopamine hit with. There is some unmet need that shopping helps to relieve. It's a good time for reflection. ❤
I always appreciate your videos. Glad to see you. I, too, struggle with books. No matter the store/ place, I am magnatized to books. Not only do we not NEED any books right now, but we're moving, and I dont have any shelf space as is😅 However, I'm still on a low buy plan, baha. There are 2 books I know I'll buy this year. Outside of those, I plan on no more books and an overall low buy year. I'll be on the lookout for your updates/ further videos on the matter. Here's to a successful low buy / no buy year for you, your fam, and your channel followers 🎉
Yes! One is inclined to think the steps to a "low spend" or "no buy" year are obvious, but what gets overlooked is the mental aspect of it! The act of buying things is emotional. What do we get when we buy those things? How are we hoping to feel? Why do we think this thing will "fix" us? Etc. Discovering underlying motivations is the key that is missing from a lot of these "no spend" challenges. As always, you are here to deliver the questions we need to be asking ourselves to grow!
Years ago when I worked to really change my spending habits the two major things I changed. First, I just didn’t go places where extra things were sold. So mainly I stuck to the grocery store and the gas station. I never went to the mall and I rarely went to Target or anywhere like that. And pretty soon I didn’t even think about those places and it turns out that when you don’t see things you “have to buy” you don’t actually have the urge to buy them. You might not even know they exist! And second, I started to heavily utilize my library. When I wanted the feeling that choosing and buying gave me I hit up the library. I checked out novels, nonfiction and big gorgeous cookbooks, music CDs, audiobooks and DVDs (I told you this was years ago 🙃). Now you can check out board games as well. Libraries also often have free or discounted tickets to local plays, concerts, state parks, and fairs. Your library likely also hosts interesting speakers, storytellers, performers, and/or activists for some free entertainment or social engagement. Our library (and library system) is fantastic and heavily utilized and yet still has not seen an increase in their funding since 2012. So if you are doing a no buy year not for financial reasons, maybe some of the money you would have spent on stuff you could give to your library!!
Happy to see you, Tanya! ❤ I remember your last no buy year, how great to do it again!
