I have a distant uncle who always hugs me and kisses me on the forehead every single time he meets me. I've always found it uncomfortable & have been telling my parents so since I was a kid. But they always asked me to let it go coz he's doing it out of love. The last time I met him was a couple of months after my marriage and he tried to do the same thing then as well. However I pushed him away then. My husband found the entire thing really weird as well. That uncle wasn't happy but i didn't care. I wasn't an unsure child then but a grown woman. Had to put a stop to it. This same uncle once happened to visit my home ( when I was a teen) quite early in the morning. When my parents told him I'm sleeping he actually walked into my room & tried to wake me up by pulling my blanket. I shouted at him saying I don't care who you are you pull my blanket I'll kick you. My parents didn't seem like they were gonna stop him. They were too busy being polite. I had to do something. He stopped and walked away then. But I got an earful later on from my parents about respecting elders & guests. This concept of respecting elders no matter what has ruined so many lives! Now my parents agree I was right but this whole thought process stopped them from standing up for me when I needed them.
Its undoubtedly a valuable and relevant topic that shd be discussed in every family. Unfortunately, most of us dnt hv much ideas abt this. This video deserves much more exposure so that millions of children would get a chance to know abt their rights. 👍🏻Tnq so much Aswathy for this spectacular content. 🙏
Agree with some of the aspects but there is some problem. Basically meaning of respect is restricted in our society . Dimensions of respect are : what is respect ? what extend is respect i can do? Who decide my meaning of respect. It will vary upto persons , agree here. But in case of child you can't mean them as adult, it is good to go through some aspects of obligation and right of discussion based on utilitarian , kantian and Aristotelian discourse. I think the conclusion will make some great problems. One thing it is not that a matured parent restricting from doing something of immature child.
