  • Hey guys!
    In todays video I wanted to speak a little about the art of being high maintenance. When I shared on social meds this video was coming I had several people comment and say "high maintenance is just having high standards" and BOY! Are you guys right on the money!!
    This term is usually thrown around as an insult meant to control and minimize women by people who are either unable to or unwilling to rise to such standards. And while..no one is DEMANDING these people do so..but the backlash to women who embody this attitude speaks to a phenomenon at large bent on keeping women in "in their place".
    But baby, WE see right through that bull. And no only are we going continue to be high maintenanceAF but we are going to be PROUD to do so.

    All your content is absolutely sickening and beyond self centered. You are literally teaching others how to be a narcissist. There's plenty of that in this world already. You can sugarcoat it all you want and make it sound like a good thing, but its absolutely not.

      Yeah…but I think her message is a lot deeper than that. If you keep watching her channel, she makes it pretty clear that it’s not just about looks, it’s about having healthy boundaries and positive self-esteem and making choices that are healthy for you. I think she is saying that it is okay to like what YOU like, and if people judge you for these choices, that is their problem.
      Most of us have preferences-I have a neck pillow I usually travel with-is that “high-maintenance”? Maybe. But, what if I tell you that my doctor and physical therapist both recommended I use that type of pillow to keep my neck aligned properly? Well, that’s different…or is it? Maybe it just feels comfortable, I get better rest, and then I’m not grouchy the next day. Is wanting to function at my best “high maintenance”?
      Go beyond the makeup. Whitney has some interesting stuff to say.

      @@michmash7888 this person doesn't have a clue what narcissism actually is....and it makes me wonder myself where this person would fall on that spectrum. Cause they hear "take care of and stand up for yourself" and it means "i wont put up with just anyones bull shit" and they are TRIGGERED by it. Stuff like this goes in one ear and out the other cause I SEE them and I do genuinely hope they get the help that they need.

    I've never understand why being high maintenance as being bad. Like in high school my best friend asked me if I wanted to go camping with her, her boyfriend and his friend. I had never been so I packed stuff to clean my face, toilet paper and all kinds of stuff. Her boyfriend was like why do you have so much stuff.....but guess who kept needing to ask for things they didn't bring. Toilet paper and hand sanitizer was real handy. It's a good thing to be prepared and if that makes me high maintenance so be it.

      girl I camp ALL the time and spend a lot of time and work in the outdoors and STILL pack my skincare, basic hair care, and stuff like that every time, and I ALWAYS pack an eyebrow pencil! Whatever gets us out the door and ready to take care of ourselves then who cares!!!

    • @michmash7888
      @michmash7888 3 роки тому +12

      Exactly! I pack heavy-ish…and everyone I travel with always comes to me when they need decent moisturizer or a bandaid or ibuprofen or hair ties or whatever! Once I flew out of town with an acquaintance, and she was stunned that I had small bottles of my favorite shampoo and conditioner in my quart-baggie. I was equally stunned that someone would leave it up to a hotel chain to pick their hair care products! I mean, I could definitely survive without my favorite products, but don’t want to just survive…I want to feel like myself. (Also, I am allergic to a lot of common ingredients-like aloe-so I can’t leave it totally up to chance.)

    This hit HOME for me😔. I used to have (Yes, USED TO) have 5 best friends. We were best friends for 20+ years. Then, I started working on myself.... skincare, makeup, fashion, losing weight, etc.... we went on our annual girls trip 4 years ago and they shamed me so bad I cried the whole time and flew back the 800 miles that I had come early. Needless to say... our relationships are no more. Who needs "friends" like that?? Btw... they all do not take care of themselves, are overweight and are all 8 years younger than I am. But I am the last person that would ever judge anyone. Let alone SHAME them.
    Wanted:::: NEW beotches to be friends who love themselves enough to not hurt others!!

Nothing against those that don't do it but then don't have the audacity to shame me for wanting more in a goof way from myself ! Sorry to say that those were not true friends... they should have been happy for you. Or at least have the common sense to apologise and act like an adult. Don't ever feel sorry that you look great ! You deserve it !! As for people... as nasty and painful it was for you then just be glad you got rid of toxic people and allow new ones to enter your life. Sending you hugs !!

    I spent most of my life being told I'm ugly. I felt ugly. In 2016 I got really sick and had (luckily) a liver transplant. Since then I've lost most of my weight and now enjoy learning techniques and wearing makeup. I don't think I'm ugly. I'm proud of what my body has accomplished. To all the young and unsure ladies...I dress and do my makeup for myself and no one else. It makes me feel good. Looking ur best makes u mentally feel ur best and so on..accepting it with confidence and not being shameful comes with maturity....no one should be shaming anyone wearing makeup for it is an ART!! They are jealous and insecure...telling someone they aren't allowed or shouldn't do something should not be allowed unless they are doin harmful things like drugs..hurting themselves ..etc...

    the misuse of “high maintenance” reminds me when people use “entitlement” in a disparaging and often incorrect way. “excuse me, deliverer. I received the incorrect grocery order. are you entitled?” it’s not another word to describe someone who did something you don’t like. a healthy sense of entitlement creates an assertive personality which is a positive attribute to have in order to get what you need, as long as you don’t knock down and harm others to get it (which is aggression not assertiveness). same with high maintenance/standards as you outlined fabulously. it’s a positive thing to have standards! I love fellow high maintenance people with goals, expectations, and boundaries. they’re healthy, stable, and supportive because they know how to care about themselves.

I have a few of them now since I've been given some as gifts over the years, but the one I wear most is an inexpensive one from a giftshop on vacation 4 years ago. Whitney this is one of the best videos you've made. Such strong valid points, all your sentiments and statements aren't revolutionary or new, but you articulated it beautifully. Sometimes we all need a reminder of the standard we should expect from ourselves and hold other's to, and that it's okay to want good things in life and live good, and not feel like a burden or too much to handle for feeling that way.

    I can’t remember the quote I saw on Tiktok but it was something like don’t worry about me being high maintenance when I’m the one maintaining it! People just need to not worry about other people (especially women) and just let them be. And I agree my boundaries/standards are important to know and keep just for my own sanity. ❤️

Because it gives me a lift and at a time when I was very low, it made me feel better to do a little something for myself. I also love all the lotions, potions and bath luxuries. Would love a video from you on that. From another glowing goddess!! 💜💜💃🏿

    The Take! Effing love that channel! When I was younger, and trying my best to look a certain way, I thought I was the only woman who HAD to put put in that much effort to win against the tide of body hair, skincare, age prevention, emotional wear and tear. It felt like I was just wrong. Even when I was doing all that work myself! Well, now I'm physically lower maintenance, emotionally high maintenance, and I GOT STANDARDS. It took long enough, and I'm never gonna unsee it! 😤❤

  • @HitherandYarn
    @HitherandYarn 3 місяці тому +1

    You're right. When I was younger, every time I would try to improve my looks (which reflected on my feelings about my self) someone would say, "Oh you're turning your collar up now, huh?" Or, "Oh, you're trying to wear your hair up now, huh?" Hate that. It was a way of putting me down, as if to say I wasn't worth thinking about myself. Some women who wear a lot of makeup and hair are shallow, but no more than women who don't. I'd really like to try being high maintenance to see if i like it. Might try that!

    I love your channel!!! Not to humble brag lol but a lot of the stuff you teach has been on my play book for most of my time. My mom was “high maintenance” and I always admired how she just owned it. Maybe I picked up some of that stuff because she would always say it was important to present yourself with grace. Besides that! I find your channel a good reminder, and I’m still learning soo so much!!! Even though I don’t dress up everyday I find it super important to have a daily face routine, work out and eat the best food!!! 😻

    Wow! You really nailed it on the head girl!! I absolutely LOVE these high maintenance videos series you are doing!! These have got me fired up so much!! You and I have so much in common actually; I was in an abusive relationship as well (mentally, verbally, emotionally) with my sons father and he did a s said the same things to me and I realized he was a narcissist and had to tear me apart bc he couldn’t stand how confident and put together I was bc he had absolutely no confidence or self esteem. Unfortunately for me, he did get in my head and he tore me down and it’s taken me years to recover; I’m finally back to myself again or at least a better version of myself now but I’ve worn sweats and a baseball cap everyday for years and I miss getting myself dressed and doing my hair and looking like a lady! Your videos are so awesome and I’m so excited to start changing my routine and get back to feeling like a woman again!! Thank you for these!! You are amazing!! I also grew up in a completely dysfunctional family that I still have to deal with on an almost daily basis that I would love to write a book about and I honestly don’t think people would even believe bc it’s seriously so inane. SMDH. If only people really knew. But I used to be high maintenance as well and I want that spark to be relit again bc I love being high maintenance and there is nothing wrong with it!! I love you girl!! 🤗😁 xoxo
