- My strawberry plants need some rescue after being gone on vacation during a triple digit heat wave. I’ll share with you how to prune them back and fertilize them to bring some new growth and more fruit.

You do a great job of growing things in what is actually the desert. Virtually nothing in that garden is indigenous and in fact the environment where you live is generally hostile to all of those plants. You have many videos on how to deal with these hostilities. I live near you in So Cal now, but where I'm from most of that stuff grows very easily. In many cases the chore is to keep it from going crazy and taking up the entire garden. You're really doing an excellent job ~

Those strawberries will be thriving in no time! Hey, one tip that I do, I use large paper clips to hold my shade cloth down. The clips, they are the ones that bind a whole stack of paper together, maybe 3/4 inch to one inch, usually black color... Those are perfect for holding your shade cloth in place. Rather than clip them at the top, I clip them on the support at the edge of the shade cloth. Anyway, I keep a bucket of these clips handy to do exactly this. They last forever.

I accidentally left my ganging basket strawberries in my greenhouse for a couple days and the temps in ky greenhouse get above 100 some times and I normally take the sensitive plants out during the day and leaving my pepper plants in there they love it, well the strawberries didn't love it and died back a lot! I am glad I found your video and my solution is I built a 24x18x14 planter box with corner posts and a top frame so I can just put a piece on plastic over it when it needs "greenhoused" and when it gets hot I can just open it up and it'll get the circulation it needs. thanks for all the tips. I am stuck container gardening the soil at the house is literally all clay...whuch is cool for digging processing and making pots and stuff...but it killed two established tomato plants I transplanted in lile 24 hours...
Can't wait to see them revive and produce fruits. Hope you guys were able to revive a lot. I'm guessing you're already finished taking care of everything first. I'm growing strawberries from seeds. I have two problem that I'm solving. My baby strawberries was dying with the heat so I decided to put it in a bigger pot instead of the plastic cup that it had and the second problem are the lizards. They love baby strawberries so I covered it with knitted foot stockings. it works great and I took it out of the sun and they look happy. Great video. hope that they stay alive.

I’ve noticed the hanging pot I have my strawberry plants in works much better and the plant doesn’t wilt when there’s straw on top of the soil. The two other pots are wilting pretty bad, but I’ve noticed the green leaves are starting to stand upright again. Just waiting for the good ones to rise up more so I can snip the dead ones easier

Great 'How To' recovery vid... I don't grow strawberries anymore as the slugs and birds have always beat me to them in the past.I do pick them at Strawberry Farms however on days out during the summer. Thanks for the vid. Cheers Adam
Hello Adam - glad you enjoyed the video - and have the opportunity to pick strawberries at a nearby farm. Have you ever tried growing the in crate towers? I've found them to grow so much better than in ground. Covering with shade cloth does hep with the bird issue and I like to prop them up on plastic forks to keep them off the soil to help with the slug issue. Thanks for watching!
Welcome back 🙂. I'm having a similar "problem" . My strawberry leaves have started to curled up, I don't know if this is a problem or not. I though it was lack of water, but it's not. I'm going to add some new soil and wait for the best. Greetings from Portugal ❤️
Thanks for the video. My strawberries are in a key hole garden and not doing well. I'm inland southern California where it's been up to 112. Even with shade cloth they are struggling.
Hope they pull through for you :) The new drip system I'm sure will help quite a bit :) Did you use something to control the moisture in the soil when you built them? I have noticed that my plants are not doing so well in the summer heat so I am going to start to add coconut coir to help with moisture retention :) Thanks for sharing :)
Well I just love what you are doing. You and Organics Best have inspired me so much. I just completed 100 strawberry plants in 2 crate towers with my 7 year old daughter. She watched both you and O.B. videos and was so excited to copy you both. I have Albion bare roots and live Seascape. I bought the bare root online 85 for $24.99 then found live ones at H&N Nursery in Lakewood CA 6 starters with fruits for $2.99. I do have 1 question: Am I suppose to put holes in the bottom of the weed blocker fabric? Gardening is soooooo addicting. Thank you!!!
Welcome back! You've been missed. Questions: when adding new soil, are you pulling the strawberry plant out as not to cover the crown of the plant up with more soil? 2) do you ever plant your runners?
I just learned today that here in Texas, they consider strawberries an annual but I'm trying to get them through the summer heat here. What type of strawberries did you plant?
After planting the runner, when do you cut the cord from the mother plant?
NO. CA. HERE, I AM GROWING ALBION STRAWBERRIES. I RECENTLY REPLANTED AND USED MIGARDENER'S TRIFECTA AND SOME SURE START FROM NURSERY. I USE POTS MOUNTED ON THE FENCE AS SPACE LIMITED.

I find it interesting that you say it is cooling off there and down to 80 but in the opposite corner of the country it is in the high 70s here and it is hot for us... Typically we are in the 60s right now
Hi Jason, ha, ha - it's all in the perspective....80 is a huge improvement from triple digits. We don't get much of a winter, but cooler weather is always welcome after long, hot summer. I bet the fall colors are beautiful there! Thanks for watching!

Hi , i leave in portugal and i have some strawberrys in a bucket of 20 liters , and i put 5 more holes in vertical but the 2 times they all die , i put one pipe in to the bottom with some holles but all die , i put clay pellets for better drainage , and all die , what you recomend ? When I bought my plant it had strawberries on it and it's like they just stopped growing. The last few were small and would never get 100% red because they will start to halfway rot away. Now I think it's so hot that no strawberries are growing. And I have a few leaves that are turning red to Brown. What do I do?
Quick question? Are the holes on the leaves you can see come from a pest or any kind of disease?
Hello, I know what you mean about the heat in southern California I am growing strawberry's in milk crates watering every other day. My question is I layed down wood chips to protect the berry's, and leaves from the moisture can getting the leaves wet while watering constantly be a problem?

Ok I have so many aphids and other caterpillar 911 they killed my tomatoes 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
To get rid of aphids just mix baking soda a heaping tablespoonful into a quart of water in a spray bottle. spray the stems and undersides of leaves of any plant leave it to dry for a couple of hours then hose off. All the aphids will rinse off and no more aphids.
