Syd is a keeper....great to see a capable crewmate more than willing to jump right in to get things done. She's a joy to watch, too.
I like her, but hope to sometime soon hear of her back story, or at least more thoughts on living the UA-cam-cruising life.
@@hd-xc2lz there's a vid about just that....about when she was introduced
@@earnieb5318 Got a link?
@@earnieb5318 One of Bobby's interview videos? Missed it. Thank you! I will check it out.
Plastic bag over the oil filter before removing and putting oil in the oil filter before screwing it into replace..... learned something today. Thanks for the lesson Bobby! If that flying thing doesn’t work out maybe, sailing (with beautiful women) 😁? You are living the LIFE!
What a wonderful laugh she has
In addition, love your music tracks! Cheers!
First time we've gotten to see Syd as solo crew. Good fun.
We just got back from 10 days in St. Thomas and St. John on a rental power cat… We had a few sleepless nights too on some “rolly” anchorages and mooring balls. Nice to see you on a motor yacht… Lots of sailing channels out there but not a lot of power boat channels… Keep up the good work Bobby!
Lifelong sailor here as well, and very much agree that Bobby's power boat excursion is lotsa fun. I've never cruised on a power boat, so watching has been a learning experience, and best of all, Bobby knows his way around motors and boat systems, so we get a realistic picture of the level of maintenance involved.
Thanks for posting the date filmed!
-- St John is beautiful. It was even more pristine in 1973.
so was the rest of the world !! ....doh !!
Learn something today about changing oil. The bag around the filler . Good info. 🏴☠️
"It's always something on a boat" - TRUTH !
BOAT is an acronym. Break Out Another Thousand
Im a mechanic.....and you did the oil filter perfect. Good job and nice to see
Absolutely beautiful part of our world. Thanks for taking me there. As for the Syd, I’d follow her up a mountain path anytime😍
Yes Bobby your correct about adding oil into filter to just before the open hole and rubbing oil on rubber gasket for easy removal next time. if you need to clean out the inside of the engine buy cheap oil and run for a day then replace with your #1 engine oil, it's great for the engine.
Syd is the Bomb, luv her and her adventurous nature and sprit plus she is a great crew member !! Fair winds and following seas Bobby 🏴☠️⚓️. 😎
I keep camping gear on my boat and have abandoned ship to sleep on shore when conditions are ejecting us to the ceiling in the V Berth.
About the cat, look up Chris White design catamarans Atlantic 70F
Nice work finding that! 👍
Sid's personality is so spontaneous and makes one just want to watch her more. That smile is dynamite. I do the same things with my oil filters.
I don't know if it has been answered but the boat with the unstayed masts is a Chris White design Atlantic 70F.
Omg Bobby !! I have changed oil a million times !! Never thought of putting a plastic bag around the filter. Thank you !!
You only need too prefill the oil filter if it is staged inline before the engine. Most automotive/diesel engines have them mounted post engine and there is plenty of oil in the oil pan for the engine to run before the oil filter fills up. What ur doing is helpful but not needed. Also not a big deal as your filters are mounted vertically but if it was horizontal it would be a pita to mount full of oil.
Agreed, the oil filter is the last thing to get oil in a pressurized system, before it goes back into the oil pan.
He's all sweaty and out of breath thinking he's at the top prematurely when he's not. Turns the camera and she's just hiking along carrying her backpack like it's nothing.
God bless you i need your help for needy children slave children and evangelism
Well, crap. Bobby is almost 50 years old. What did you expect?
shes half his age !!
You'll be in your 50's one day, it's not as easy as it looks.
@@zukgod I'm 55 now, and never winded on minimal exertion like this. But, I've also been in the US Navy for 25 years and kept in shape. Maybe Bobby should lay off the beer and cigars. He already had a stroke, and they put him at almost 12x the risk of another one.
I can never remember when I last did maintenance. Seeing 4.4.21 on the oil filter plus what oil was used is handy. I always date stamp air filters, batteries, nipple covers, etc. with a good sharpie.
Date doesn't really mean anything, it's hours or miles that are used as a marker point.
I always write the engine hours when the oil change was done.
I have a vacuum extractor for my cars... I hooked up a rig where my vacuum cleaner hose does the sucking... No pumping a plunger to pull a vacuum. My shoulders like me now.
I know we only get to see the good parts of living at sea but boy they are some good parts.
You should try Leinster Bay, no rolling, protected, and has a natural water park that you can go snorkeling.
Geffen does a lil movie stuff but hes known for being a record executive and founder of Geffen records.
A lil? He's the G in Dreamworks SKG, their film library is extensive and impressive. But it's true that he made his initial fortune in the music business, first as a manager, then as the co-founder of Asylum Records, and eventually his own of his label, Geffen. He's a self made billionaire, hence the mega-yacht.
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH not sure why you felt the need to basically restate what I said haha
@@raha1277 because u basically said nuthin !
That’s a good idea with the plastic bag. I’ll try that on my motorcycle.
Appreciate and enjoy your channel Bobby. Always entertaining, reflects real boating life, interesting destinations, circumstances, and challenges. It appears your channel supports your objectives checking the 6.3k views after 40 minutes. Your down to earth formula works well for you and has launched many of your interesting, and entertaining, crew. It is a challenging life but worth it if you have it in your blood! Cheers!
Entertaining? Yes. Sailing? No. That marina he is pulling in to for 4 nights is $5 a foot. It will run him $300 a night plus electric and water. This show is not about sailing or boating. I am done watching and supporting his lifestyle.
@@rafalwyszkowski70 congrats !!
@@rafalwyszkowski70 I never said it was cheap. Sailing Doodles has UA-cam income and sponsors. They spend little time at a marina. Bobby and crew do a lot of their own repairs. He has many subscribers which are educated to the challenges of this lifestyle. It is obvious his "formula" works. Maybe not so much for others. Glad "Your Done"! I enjoy moderate distance cruising myself so I can relate to much of what this channel is about.
@@bobcathey8903 well said Bob !! 👍
Dang! 1:13 caused a "double take".

@@hd-xc2lz Im sure he did. I'm sure she sees the vids before we all do.
Ya putting oil on the filter seal is to prevent it from drying out and leaking.... or sticking to the filter housing. Which my buddy learned the hard way on his almost brand new truck when he put a new filter on and didn't realize the old seal was stuck to the filter housing and oil went squirting out from between the 2 seals like old faithful... What an insane mess that was. Funny thing is he did it again right after because he thought something was wrong with the new filter seal. 🤣🤣🤣😆😆😆
Nice to see u put the hours and date on the filter..I used to take care of 5 mowers and two tractors..you should keep a maintenance log book for everything..keep the manufacturer's recommendation in the book also
Bobby, there's a conical thing for filling fluid into containers, its called a FUNNEL! Top man.
Good tip for oil changes I always spill oil everywhere when changing my oil ......never to old to learn a new trick..... Thanks bro
Probably already said in the comments way down below.... That "oil trick" with the filter has been around quite some time... At least it was for me when I started changing my own oil on car in 1984. I'm sure it was in play before then. I just learned it when I got my first car. Good tip to pass along. Thanks Bobby.
God bless you and your family
I just got pissed with my house because there's always something to fix. But, really, I guess boats, cars, homes....it's all the same.
Constant upkeep. Love how you stay positive with everything Bobby. Teach me that!! Cheers from CANADA!!
I find Sids’ adventurous nature one of her most attractive qualities. Has she started her own channel yet? Any plans to do so?
I really like her, she is magnificent and attractive.
Soon!
I was thinking about this channels MO....on the face of it it’s sailing/boating with pretty girls in bikinis. UA-cam is mostly used by men, so fair enough, right. But to push things to the next level I’d guess he really tries hard to get crew mates with personality. Or else us men of culture wouldn’t come back time after time. Chapeau!
@@davedave5128 if you say so. I’m really only here for the articles…
I enjoyed changing the water pump impellors on the Volvo Penta engines on our Lake Kariba army patrol boats back in 1979.
Lovin' me some Sydney. What a sweetheart!
Always fun motor boat'n with Sid!
May want to check heat exchanger input as those "barbs" float up and clog the exchanger. I have the same generator and just changing the pump or impeller may only work for a while.
^ this. When they change the impeller on Delos they account for every impeller blade before putting in the new one.
@@socomon69 - Yep, best to change them before they fail.
Looks like you are getting the boat into shape...thanks for sharing...
Enjoyed it. The maintain and project part is interesting.
What’s with syd wanting to poke the spiders 😳
I think Syd is great but hell no I wouldn’t be going on a hike with her. 🕷 😱 🤣
Another great video, Bobby. Give us a little history on Sydney if you could. I know she's been around but missed her introduction. Thanks.
The Rising Sun has 4 x 20V8000 MTU engines rated at 12,000hp each. I watched them fuel it up in Puerto Vallarta 3 years ago. They pumped 4 B-train loads of diesel into it.
sounds excessive !
@@rhett7716 Abromovich’s yacht Eclipse is 168m vs 134m for the Rising Sun and has 4 x MTU 1163’s which are a little less power but run 10 turbochargers in sequential operation. Big boats, big power. Money is no object.
@@dougberry1011 Fuel, Booze, and food, o-ya and dock fees.
Bobby is the content king! It was all great stuff well edited.
It's good to add a little oil to the filter so you don't have that void for the engine. Our huge road plow trucks are like that.
The Lady with you is a keeper!!!!!!!
The oil filter trick is an old auto mechanics trick. That was passed down to me by my uncle when he taught me how to change the oil in my first car.
Sid, nuff said .She is incredible . I have to do this. Will be retiring in a couple years.
Add oil to the filter and fill it up and a little on the o-ring and only make it hand tight and then a quater turn.
Sleepless, Swelly nights at anchor, and who cares right, Bobby and Sydney. Having fun while at work, can get any better than that. You guys just keep on going. for many of them that`s just wishful thinking. Bst Rgds
Gorgeous view from the Top. I see Bobby your out of Breath climbing. Sydney's got the best of you.. Of course, I love to be following her too. I would definitely be out of breath as well. Sydney, the Spiders usually come out mid-evenings at best. No, that was not a nipple cover, more like a diaphragm to prevent sailors from entering. lol. Need that Generator for sure.
Hey Sid i love your shirt 👍ALOHA Great video beautiful places 👍Aloha from Hawaii🤙🏝😎
Sydney is a beast…and she is gorgeous and funny!!!! You have to keep her on The channel!!!
Sailing Doodles … no sailing, no doodles 🙁 (sailing instructor)!
Use the old oil to lube the filter for good mojo, assuming it was running well when your changing the oil. Hasn’t let me down for 40yrs.
Use a wide mouth funnel when transferring the oil... less chance of a spill.... just sayin'. Love the channel...
ONE issue with that generator is the governor seems to be wandering.
Love the channel!!
Great vid like always! I miss Taylor 😢
Not too bad !!!
Another "trick" to your oil change - when you're transferring the old oil into the container, put the container in a bucket. The larger bottom of the bucket will help with stability and any spills are caught. I have to figure out how to get the bag trick to work for a horizontally mounted filter (motorcycle), because I always make a mess taking mine off.
Hang your bike from one wheel.........then you have a vertical filter, or just shift gravity. LOL
just put a plastic washing bowl under the filter theyre a large diameter
Good garages and shade tree mechanics always prime new oil filters with lube oil before installing them to prevent momentary oil starvation of engine components, especially for engine top-deck parts such as valves and cam shafts.
1:13 WOW!! Look at Sydney! This is my new Desktop background!!
Nothing like boat ownership, always something to deal with as far as maintenance. 😎
11:52 "But won't they eat the tree, too?" LOL
Awesome video!!
Sydney is a very cool chick. And Bobby, use a funnel ffs to keep the oil off your floor. LOL
Thanks Lora , U the best
Yes ...sleepless night .. no just waves.. sorry Bobby. Lol
The swells were likely from a young couple, in an adjacent boat, entertaining themselves all night long. Bobby, you are just getting old!
I just saw that Rick Moore on Sophisticated Lady is going to be a father again. Us old guys never get that old.
Another nice video, thanks
Congrats on 400K Subs!
I dunno. Is poking a tarantula the same as poking a tiger...? LOL Watch out!
Great video, as always!
Awesome video well done
recommend Hurricane Hole, south east St John's
Don't order a new pump to replace your spare. Rebuild the pump with the worn out impeller and put it back in your spares.
14:20 it sails good I seen it in the Bvi sailing around, even spoke to the owner
dont get it ..... one sails enuff !!
Great tip the plastic bag
put a container under the filter and pour the oil in with the rest of the used oil !
Like engines require periodic oil changing, the Sailing Doodles music selection is in need of refreshment.
Plastic bag idea is a good one.
As others said, he's much more well known for music, Geffen Records, etc., there's documentary about him on Amazon I believe.
You need to install an electric oil transfer pump which can suck out your oil reservoirs and as well pump in the fresh oil. Then you avoid screwing around with funnels & spilled oil.
God bless you all
Thats a Chris White cat Bobby. Excellent sailing cat
met Chris years ago in Phuket. FYI Nina sold 2 years ago.
one sail too many !!
@@rhett7716 Don't follow. The Chris White has 2 x mainsails and no headsail and does use or need to use a spinnaker. If anything it has less sails that a regular cat. Also has less windage as not rigging wire.
@@bobmott3543 i can see why theyre so popular !!.... trying it reinvent the wheel .... badly!!
@@rhett7716 They are not popular. There are very few of them around in that set up. I gather your a sailor given your comments. Have you ever sailed one of them a Chris White design or a rig like that or for that matter do you sail a mono?
She made you look bad in that hike Bobby.
Flopper Stoppers!!!!
Another great video
There's always something at the house too, so the water is better.
Bobby, get a funnel to help with pouring the oil without making a mess!!!! :-)
What a doll .
Syd the bod.
Did Hatterasss used self tappers for the deck to hull join?
4:22, no way in the world I would attempt that without a funnel. Even then it would be questionable for me.
Of course! And especially with all those swells and wake that seem to be such a plague for them lately.
But you are assuming common sense is at play...
And something or someone to hold the container.
1:12....D A M N !
I'm pretty much enamored of Syd!!!!!
You can't dry fire a diesel . You have to prime all your filters cause they don't like air in the lines
Syd is so knowledgeable! Maybe she is a fellow biologist! Don’t know. But wow!
