This is their first movie where they need to wait to see the next one. Now they get to know what waiting for the sequels for Star Wars, Indiana Jones and The Lord of the Rings was like!
Chani’s role was changed from calculating and powerful concubine to defiant freedom fighter, similar to Siona Atreides in later book. A good call, imo. The story need a different point of view to balance religious fanatics like Stilgar and calculating politician like Jessica.
31:10 the Duke is in those baths constantly because Paul's father Duke Atreides poisoned him remember? Those baths are a follow up treatment. I can't remember if that's in the books or not, but that's what they're implying in the movies.
@@jamesrobinson2138 Functionally, the end is roughly the same (Paul defeats Feyd in single combat, marries Irulan and becomes the Emperor of the Universe). There's a few differences, though. In the book Jessica has given birth to her daughter Alia; she kills the Baron. This is despite her being a toddler; she's "preborn" and has the memories of all of her ancestors (including, significantly for later novels, the Baron himself!). There's also a subplot about Feyd having been implanted with a post hypnotic suggestion to be "stunned" by the Bene Gesserit during his time with Margot; Paul is aware of the command word but refuses to use it (even when it looks like Feyd is about to beat him) so that he can take the throne "by his own hand" and free of debt to the BG. Chani is supportive of Paul's decision to marry Irulan; she understands that it's a loveless political marriage and that Irulan will probably never even be on the same planet as Paul ever again, let alone bear his children (this isn't exactly what happens; Paul and who gets to have his kids is a plot in Dune: Messiah, the second novel in the series). It's kind of like the difference between the ending of Watchmen: The Movie and the original comic: there's a few big differences, it winds up in roughly the same place, but some of those differences are significant enough to "count".
@@elcid1390 nice! Thanks for the explanation, that helps a lot. I wonder if they left some of that out because they’re going to make another movie and maybe carry on some of that plot since they left it open to where he has to fight the great houses. It would be interesting for sure.
This film is a beautiful tragedy. Paul finds happiness in his new home with Chani, but he can't escape his destiny and loses his self - and his love - in the process.
In the books many things happen differently. They were in the desert for many years, and Paul's sister was born. Paul's sister is the one who is supposed to kill Baron Harkonnen when she is 3 years old. Chani and Paul also have a son, who is killed as a baby by the Emperor's soldiers, which is what prompts Paul to attack the Emperor. Also, in the books Chani agrees that Paul should marry the Emperor's daughter as a political alliance, and Paul's mother tries to talk her out of it. Chani is always supportive of Paul. Paul only ever has children with Chani, and always loves her, and never loves the Emperor's daughter. They didn't need to make Chani act like this in this movie, I don't understand why they changed the story so much.
@@molasorrosalom4846 the sad part is that the jihad needed to happen. The structures of power had grown too corrupt and the throne needed to be passed down to the kwisatz haderach for perfect stewardship. However, the defiance of house atreides caused an acceleration in the plans and Paul made the mistake of not taking the golden path... and the rest are spoilers
I don't think the Jihad is needed, but it will happen anyway. That is sad. And I don't think that Paul made a mistake by not taking the golden path. He understood before the whole galaxy that there is no paradise in this universe that justifies centuries of control and genocide. Unfortunately, he learned that after he became a genocidal himself.
@@molasorrosalom4846 there are spoilers involved but, yes, there are even worse things awaiting the human race and through hardship and tragedy, both Paul, and afterwards, Emperor Leto II prepare humanity for even worse circumstances. This is off course a utilitarian trope that only makes sense in a universe where prescience is possible. It is not limited to Dune as it is also explored in the stories portrayed by Isaac Asimov's "Foundation" series of books (psico-mathematics if I remember correctly). The trope does not exist in a void as humanity has already gone through many calamities and learned something from each one but at an amazing cost in lives. These writers were influenced by WW2 and the USSR and like to portray the fallibility of mankind and the need for struggle to adapt and survive the ever growing threat of annihilation. Frank Herbert's Dune had already gone through cataclysmic scenarios one of which was the Butlerian Jihad that almost completely destroyed humanity. Even Star Trek (TNG) was written from the stand point of humanity at it's knees after a devastating world war and growing into a new human race with new goals and renewed spirit. The big difference is the prescience. A messianic figure that "knows" what's going to happen. How far into the future can it see? How much more tyrannical does it need to become for humanity to grow into the next stage of social evolution to stave off the next cataclysmic calamity? Paul knew that the possibility existed of the new holy war could come about but he needed to save the freemen and wanted to give them their desired green paradise. Holy war is the only way to subjugate the Landsraad into the changing empire and dissuade them from simply annihilating the Fremen. Leto II will be even more ruthless but only because he is more prescient
The body shields are calibrated to stop fast moving objects like bullets , slow things like atmospheric gases are permitted to allow breathing, thus many battles are fought using slow blades

@@dimbose9229he is a huge fan of the book, and has been planning the film for decades. He changed the story to make it clear that Paul isn’t a hero in the story, which most people wouldn’t get unless the read the rest of the series.
Straight answer: If they follow the book, Paul and Chani have 3 children. First is assassinated, then they have fraternal twins. Paul never touches the Emperor's daughter, Irulan.
How different are the books? I loved Jurassic park the movie and read the book and now I can’t look at the original movie the same way again lol the book is just so superior lol
The movies are really faithful to the books. Mostly they cut some extraneous stuff that isn’t really essential to the plot, like the dinner scene at Arraken or Thufur’s subplot in Harkonnen captivity. The biggest differences are that in the books, Alia was actually born, and she was the one to kill the Baron when she was just 2 years old. And there was no tension between Chani and Paul in the books; she was pretty much 100% on his side from start to finish.
@@Nic-ye2yz Yeah the movie doesn't do the raptors' intelligence justice. It's much the same with Dune. I can't fault the acting, but most of the characters in these movies are a disappointment. The writing makes these movies much less than the books. The director doesn't think much of the audience's intelligence.
It would be great if you reacted to the Dune (1984) movie, it holds better to the story with the character interactions. The reason Paul feared the Prophesy of Maud'Dib's Jihad was because he foresaw the outcome, over 61 billion people killed, and over 90 planets "sterilized" where the Fremen killed everyone on those planets.
If I say "There is going to be the tallest house ever made in my backyard" and then after 50 years I've built the tallest house in my backyard, does that make me a prophet? Thats the problem with the prophecy in this movie. The bene gesserit have built the Lisan Al Gaib over many generations. That doesn't mean he is actually holy or anything it just means it was planned and by design.
The other noble families refused to accept Paul Muad'Dib's claim to the emperor's throne. When he said, "lead them to paradise," what he meant was "kill them." That order was what constituted the holy war.
Hi beautiful ladies!! Love your reactions!! Your reactions to action movies and sci-fi are so good, great reactions to the story and characters. You are both so gorgeous, too, Movie Munchies!! Have a great day!! :)
Just adding context to some of the things the movie did not mention. 1. The Black liquid the baron keeps taking baths has Spice in it, after Paul's father poisoned him, his health deteriorates, thats why he has that round robot with him, dude is in life support. 2. The Spice comes from the worms, who consumes Spice have their life extended, like a lot, peoples, minds become like computers, they can see alternate futures, that is used for space travel since in this universe AI is forbidden. 3. Paul know all, just like bill Murray know everyone in the City in groundhog day, anything he could learn in any futures its his now, any information that he could learn in the futures is his. That is how he, his mother and the Bene Jesserit have conversations like if was telepathy, in reality, they know what the other was going to say, so they don't need to use words.
Now you've got 3-5 yrs (probably) to see the next film, giving you lots of time to read Dune&DuneMessiah! They're available as audiobooks, including here on YT... Thanx for saving your first reaction for us instead of going to the theater.
There's no way to make Messiah a likeable movie. Note that I didn't say "good" - because I'm sure it would be good (it's DV after all). It's just that most people would hate it.
I think in the end chanis nightmare that she had for her people came true. A person from another world with interests besides arrakis well-being became the spiritual and political leader of the fremen. The fremen fought in the beginning for freedom for themselves and their home. Now they are basically the willing warrior-slaves for paul and leave their home to fight for paul to get the throne (which the fremen does not benefit from at all - what do they gain by leaving the place they wamt to turn into paradise and killing?). And in doing so they start inpauls name a holy war that will kill millions of people (the very thing he saw in his vision and was afraid if - but fundamentalism has a life if its own). Dune is a saga of hiw dangerous charmismatic leaders are, and how belief turns into atrocious violence. Paul uses the fake proohecy but is also its victim, and millions of people in the universe pay the price.
33:30 It is a different culture, yes. But in the book, the baron is a child molester (and more), and he also desires fayd-rautha. So that it feels weird in the movie could be intentional. However, to je fair, I also saw it as a kiss between nobility. Like a sign of respect. Liked your reaction. :) many greetings from germany.
@@incredulousdisbelief9841 yeah but that does not mean they have to stay together. I think it would be lame to end the second movie with a closeup of chani going into the desert and then being in the third movie like "nevermind, they are together anyways". Zendayas chani is also very different to book-chani. Book-chani lacks agenda and is fully behind paul and his perceived divinity. I cannot see zendaya-chani be like "yeah i am going to be a courtesan", walking out on paul is a very strong visual.
@@mappes1 True, but if they follow the books at all then Leto II has to be in there somewhere. Dune 2 made it clear that Paul and Chani were physically intimate many times. Zendaya's Chani doesn't have to just blindly follow Paul into the war but there's also a good chance they return to each other at some point. We'll just have to wait and see what Denis V has in mind.
YOU NEED TO READ THE BOOK!!!!!!! The movies did such an amazing job of translating the book, but you miss so much without reading. Paul knows he's using religious tropes, but he also just wants to help. His sister plays a MUCH more important role, and his mother is much easier to understand and respect. The link between the two families has more weight. The weight and understanding of Paul's visions are better explained. There are entire subplots not mentioned, like the battle against the spacing guild and why they are completely frozen by Paul's knowledge. Paul doesn't even threaten anything with nuclear bombs, that is an affectation of the movies. Even the thread of manipulating religion is completely different in the book.
There is even the entire subplot of learning how Paul's Fedaykin are equal to the Emperor's Sardaukar, and how "prison planets" are used to create exceptional soldiers. The weight of that knowledge reaffirms Paul's father's concept of "desert power" but in a darker way. The movie also end's differently than the book. Paul doesn't end the book by starting a holy war, in fact it seems he wins perfectly, the holy war comes later in the sequal book, and only because the Bene Gesserit find a way to hide parts of the future from Paul.
51:57 this is also MUCH better explained in the book T.T Chani knows he is not betraying her, in fact she is proud and supports Paul for subjugating the entire empire. it's only in the sequel book that she worries about Paul's marital faith in her. it's even part of the Bene Gesserit plot to blind Paul's vision.
If you really can't wait the years for the third Dune movie to be released and you must know what happens to Chani and her and Paul's love you could read the books by Frank Herbert.
31:15 in the books, it is implied that the Baron has been abusing Feyd just like he does his male concubines. So Feyd actually does try to assassinate his uncle in retaliation by having poison needles put into one of his concubine’s body at strategic places. The Baron discovers this and instead of ending Feyd, he sees it as a sign that his nephew is capable of hard decisions. Thereafter, a truce is called between them.
The adaptation of Dune has finished. It took two films to adapt just the first book. The second book is the shortest in the saga, with a lot of political conspiracy, but I can't say whether Denis Villeneuve will adapt the sequels. I recommend the film Sicario (2015) by the same director; Starring Emily Blunt (Edge of Tomorrow), Benicio del Toro and Josh Brolin (Deadpool, Dune and Avengers 3 - 4). God Bless you.
Paul often misses crucial chances. When he turned his back on Chani, he could have said ( as he does in the book ) 'she will have nothing of me' ). Later Jessica says to Chani 'history will call us wives'. But this film doesn't do that.
since this movie got green-lit with dune messiah being uncertain my theory is that Villeneuve reserved a major character to be very openly opposed to the idea of Paul willingly stepping into the role of Messiah which remember was THE message of the original books: beware of charismatic leaders if he made Chani all supportive just like in the books maybe the message would be lost, without a chance to adapt dune messiah personally I think it works great for the silver screen it adds tension to the plot and a layer complexity to Chani's character that simply wasn't there in the original work
@@matheussanthiago9685 Not only does it do this really well, it also gives us someone to root for as Paul becomes more detached and calculated (more Harkonnen i guess). imho movies rely much more on having a sympathetic protagonist than books do, so when Paul starts acting in a way that is hard to empathize with, Chani stands in for him.
I was upset we didn't get Chani being given told that by Lady Jessica and that we didn't have his sister killing the Baron. But I did think having someone close to Paul like Chani highlights Paul's betrayal of the Freman.

Are you counting down ro dance with me? Because I'm counting down to dance with you! Laughter she says, every girl in this place is counting down to dance with you! Why's that? Because you hold us like you love us! Well, for you an only you, that true, I do love you! She just faints an fall to the floor. I fall to the floor catching her, before she hits the dance floor. I think she needs some water, I say! Yeah, she needs some water! Just like they needed water on dune so bad they drained water from bodies!
The point of the Dune novels is that messiahs, emperors and prophets are terrible leaders, and that people should rule themselves. At the end of the movie (and the book), Paul and the Fremen embark on a jihad across the galaxy that kills untold billions. All for a prophecy that was completely made up.
It's pretty fascinating how a lot of this fails to reach a big part of the audience whose native language actually is English. So much more gets lost in translation across different cultures, quite terrifying.
I should point out, Paul is not the good guy, the original intent behind the Dune books was a cautionary tale regarding demagoguery, and hero worship - that sort of thing, etc... Basically Paul was not supposed to be liked, but frank herbert felt that people weren't understanding the meaning behind his book this character, that we are not supposed to like, and thus lead to the 2nd book being written to be even darker than the 1st. Wont get into the other books because there is a 3rd movie coming, and unless you've read them I'd end up giving spoilers.

I love you Reactions when the bad Guys bites the Dust.
Greetings from Austria .❤❤❤
Thank you ladies. I always enjoy your reactions ❤
4:36 Look, it's Cable (Deadpool)!!! 🤣🤣🤣
that's clearly Thanos
@@matheussanthiago9685 Yeah. I didn't mention that because I think they didn't watch the movies, but they watched Deadpool. Brolin is also in the 80s classic Goonies. He is "Brand Walsh" older brother of the main character "Mikey Walsh" (Sean Austin, Sam from The Lord of the Rings trilogy). 👍🏻
41:26 WE ALL AGREE !!!!
HE IS SUPER HANDSOME !!!
I LOVE when Chi wears her hair up! She’s soooo pretty!! 🌸
A great movie to watch from Denis Villeneuve, the director, is 2016's Arrival. Another movie Timothée Chalamet was great in is "The King".
This is their first movie where they need to wait to see the next one. Now they get to know what waiting for the sequels for Star Wars, Indiana Jones and The Lord of the Rings was like!
That's _if_ another even gets made.
@@LiberPater777 They're making it. Messiah is already listed in pre-production with Denis Villeneuve. It is expected in December 2026.
10:47 has the Life of Brian call back to "Only the true Messiah would deny his divinity"...
Chani’s role was changed from calculating and powerful concubine to defiant freedom fighter, similar to Siona Atreides in later book. A good call, imo.
The story need a different point of view to balance religious fanatics like Stilgar and calculating politician like Jessica.
They kind of made her into an anime tsundere waifu.
31:10 the Duke is in those baths constantly because Paul's father Duke Atreides poisoned him remember? Those baths are a follow up treatment. I can't remember if that's in the books or not, but that's what they're implying in the movies.
Glad you have reacted to Part two, great to watch it with you guys! 💜
The ending of this movie is VERY different than the book. Though, I still enjoyed it very much!
They left it open for a third one but how does the book end?
The whole thing is very different from the book.
@@jamesrobinson2138 There's actually a lot. Too much for me to want to type with my thumbs haha
The last sentence in the books is Jessica saying to Chani:
“History will call us wives."
After the Sardaukar leader destroyed the Barons floating device, he can only crawl. He is not able to walk on his own.
If Paul didn't do what he did, the fremen would be destroyed. That was the only way.
And the universe would be spared the Jihad
@@molasorrosalom4846 the sad part is that the jihad needed to happen. The structures of power had grown too corrupt and the throne needed to be passed down to the kwisatz haderach for perfect stewardship. However, the defiance of house atreides caused an acceleration in the plans and Paul made the mistake of not taking the golden path... and the rest are spoilers
@@hanzo2001Over sixty billion beings HAD to die???
The fat Baron Harkonnen needs to soak in his tub because of the poison gas from Paul's father in the first movie. The goo has healing properties.
Chi, you've missed a wonderful opportunity to watch this movie in the theaters especially with IMAX screening and Dolby Atmos sound :) ... It was one of the best cinematic experiences of my life !! You can always re-watch here on the channel with us with Hella and Tien :)
The director added a little more drama to the end of the movie because... it is a move. I won't spoil the story for you but in the books the end of this part of the movie is a bith different.
@@Ranid-eq6so Right?! Her book counterpart is completely different. She would never dare to raise her voice at Stilgar.
@@Ranid-eq6soMaybe he doesn’t understand the book. Studio should hire someone that fan of the book.
@@Ranid-eq6so He added her because so many morons completely miss the point of the books that you need someone to stand in for the audience and remind you that it isn't a happy ending
@@dimbose9229he is a huge fan of the book, and has been planning the film for decades.
He changed the story to make it clear that Paul isn’t a hero in the story, which most people wouldn’t get unless the read the rest of the series.
51:16 Me, every time I see Chi on the screen
Straight answer: If they follow the book, Paul and Chani have 3 children. First is assassinated, then they have fraternal twins. Paul never touches the Emperor's daughter, Irulan.
This movie was so amazing when I saw it in theaters Can't wait for Part 3👍
i really recommend reading the book
How different are the books? I loved Jurassic park the movie and read the book and now I can’t look at the original movie the same way again lol the book is just so superior lol
The movies are really faithful to the books. Mostly they cut some extraneous stuff that isn’t really essential to the plot, like the dinner scene at Arraken or Thufur’s subplot in Harkonnen captivity.
The biggest differences are that in the books, Alia was actually born, and she was the one to kill the Baron when she was just 2 years old. And there was no tension between Chani and Paul in the books; she was pretty much 100% on his side from start to finish.
and spoil the 3rd film? I hope not
@@fullmoon_games The 2 movies covered all of the 1st book so if you read only it, you have no spoiling risk
@@Nic-ye2yz
Yeah the movie doesn't do the raptors' intelligence justice. It's much the same with Dune. I can't fault the acting, but most of the characters in these movies are a disappointment. The writing makes these movies much less than the books. The director doesn't think much of the audience's intelligence.
Hella is so adorable... her reactions are just funny and also emotional, plus, her expressions some times are just so cute - I love her! 🥰👍🏼
23:47 "😱Why?"
She truly knows the value of the spice melange.
Watched it theaters good movie luckily the theater I go to have nice seats so I enjoyed it a lot
Looked forward to this 💯
Dune is forever
💛Yall
stay Awesome⭐️
The other noble families refused to accept Paul Muad'Dib's claim to the emperor's throne. When he said, "lead them to paradise," what he meant was "kill them." That order was what constituted the holy war.
Hi beautiful ladies!! Love your reactions!! Your reactions to action movies and sci-fi are so good, great reactions to the story and characters. You are both so gorgeous, too, Movie Munchies!! Have a great day!! :)
In the books she will never be his wife (touched).. Chani will always be his love.
I think that will also be the case in the next movie adaptation. Paul just has to get Chani back on Team Lisan al Gaib.
That is how he, his mother and the Bene Jesserit have conversations like if was telepathy, in reality, they know what the other was going to say, so they don't need to use words.
very charming and wonderful reaction as always! great stuff
Tien crushing on Paul is so cute 🙂
Now you've got 3-5 yrs (probably) to see the next film, giving you lots of time to read Dune&DuneMessiah! They're available as audiobooks, including here on YT... Thanx for saving your first reaction for us instead of going to the theater.
and spoil the 3rd film... I hope not
There's no way to make Messiah a likeable movie.
I felt it was a nod to fascism. I believe Mussolini did so and so other dictators.
Irulian will be just his wife in political title.. chani is his love and will be the mother of his children
Well, I think they have to rewrite all that. To just roll back on that ending imo would be a bit lame.
@@mappes1 how? Paul wins chani over and makes the deal with irulian that he will never bed her
@@mappes1 Not necessarily. Chani could already be pregnant at the end of this movie.
Geidi prime has a black sun, therefore everything is in shades of black and white
44:35 down bad tremendously
31:15 in the books, it is implied that the Baron has been abusing Feyd just like he does his male concubines.
So Feyd actually does try to assassinate his uncle in retaliation by having poison needles put into one of his concubine’s body at strategic places.
The Baron discovers this and instead of ending Feyd, he sees it as a sign that his nephew is capable of hard decisions. Thereafter, a truce is called between them.
Ya’ll should check out La La Land!
44:34 lol nice
Chani has his children
Wel, if you don't want to wait to see what happens, you can always read the books!
Super fun thanks!
There's a 3rd film coming, Denis himself confirmed it.

great reaction girls!
Excellent reaction.
Paul often misses crucial chances.
When he turned his back on Chani, he could have said ( as he does in the book ) 'she will have nothing of me' ).
Later Jessica says to Chani 'history will call us wives'.
But this film doesn't do that.
since this movie got green-lit with dune messiah being uncertain
my theory is that Villeneuve reserved a major character to be very openly opposed to the idea of Paul willingly stepping into the role of Messiah
which remember was THE message of the original books: beware of charismatic leaders
if he made Chani all supportive just like in the books maybe the message would be lost, without a chance to adapt dune messiah
personally I think it works great for the silver screen
it adds tension to the plot and a layer complexity to Chani's character that simply wasn't there in the original work
@@matheussanthiago9685 Not only does it do this really well, it also gives us someone to root for as Paul becomes more detached and calculated (more Harkonnen i guess). imho movies rely much more on having a sympathetic protagonist than books do, so when Paul starts acting in a way that is hard to empathize with, Chani stands in for him.
I was upset we didn't get Chani being given told that by Lady Jessica and that we didn't have his sister killing the Baron. But I did think having someone close to Paul like Chani highlights Paul's betrayal of the Freman.
Weird to watch part 1 and then open this and Hela is not here.

All logs been soaking in river for 6 yrs making the water kogged an really heavy. Everyone called grinder room, "the Hell hole". It was hell on earth! Months later i dreaded a required college dance class. Beginning class, most beautiful girl says, we only has two more dances last class an we could have danced together!
