Growing up in Ohio in the 60’s and 70’s there was no man more revered than Woody Hayes. As a lifelong Buckeyes fan I will never forget the great things he did for The Ohio State University!!!! The 10 year war with Bo Schembechler made The Game the best college football series in the history of college football. Sadly, the things that made Woody great would be his undoing. R.I.P. Coach Hayes, a great Buckeye that will always be remembered as just that! ❤️✌️😎

Woody was criticized for not passing but as you watch football today Woody was right you do win with a powerful running game. He just took it too far. You do have to pass 50/50 balance run vs pass.

That generation produced many men like that. Hard times, The Great Depression, WWII...it turned boys into men. Guys like Woody, Bear Bryant, Johnny Vaught, Bud Grant....men who came up in difficult circumstances, determined to help young men transform into productive citizens. They had their faults, for sure, but they cared about their players.

@@pitchshot2868 Thank you. I feel strongly about those men. My dad passed away two years ago and he shared those values. No, they weren't progressive. In fact, they were the definition of conservative. The latter has a bad reputation these days, which is unfortunate. There are certainly horrible aspects to the progressive movement, as well as positive things. Americans need to realize nothing is all good or all bad., and people should not be judged by moments in time. The bigger picture often tells a much different story.

The good old days before woke BS. College Football as staged as NFL. Sports entertainment has become. You won't see Ohio State beat Michigan rest of this decade. Same goes for an NFL game ending in a tie. None this year. None rest of decade. It all rigged. Michigan and Harbaugh nothing but cheating liberal elite pinheads.

As a die hard UM fan, I respect him so much! I could give a fuck about the Clemson game, does not take away from his legacy at all. I highly implore everyone to watch the HBO doc about The game. Most of it is about the 10 year war and the rivalry between Bo and Woody, and is miles better than this.

During his eulogy, Nixon recalled the first time he met Woody when he was Vice President: "I wanted to talk about football and Woody wanted to talk about foreign policy. And you know Woody. We talked about foreign policy." Hayes also liked to joke that he was Notre Dame's best recruiter because if he couldn't convince a recruit to come to Ohio State, he would say, "Well then, son, you've got to go to Notre Dame," whom Ohio State didn't play, instead of Michigan.

I was a fan of Ohio State back in the late 60's from following some recruits from NJ where I was from. Tatum, Jankoski in particular. Woody's record speaks for itself. Understanding attitudes were different back then and coaches, teachers got away; with things then they'd not be able to do now, regardless of his reputation, what he did for those off the field, he still slugged a college player on the side line on national TV. Today, he'd be charged with assault no doubt. Unfortunately, the one event is what people know of when tallking about him, and not his years of successful coaching, same as Joe Paterno and what he allegedly let happen at Penn State.
